Hello Eds and fellow reds,

Just a quick post re the GK situation. I've been looking at stats and have the following information:

Mignolet: Games played (gp) : 5
Goals Conceded (gc) : 8
Clean sheets (cs) : 0

Karius: gp: 10
gc: 12
cs: 3

I know who I'd rather have in goal.

I never trust stats for GKs, too many factors to consider. Use your eyes and intuition. Do you agree ed?

{Ed001's Note - you can use all of them together, as you need your eyes to give the stats context. Those stats given there are too limited to have any real relevance.}

Migs is not an improvement on Karius, it's like going back to your ex when the current one is struggling. She was never good enough hence you moved on.
What is this love affair with Mignolet lately. The page unanimously agreed to have a new GK in the summer.

What annoyed me at the game was the amount of "fans" around me and throughout the stadium yelling abuse at karius every time he touched the ball even at 1-0.
Fine to have an opinion even express it but at times in that match the fans made it tense every time the ball was in our half. This is extremely impactful in my opinion when we were trying to play out from the back as you need confidence (and for the most part karius and the back line were very good with the ball at their feet) . I just don't agree with the riskiest part of our game being made even more difficult for the players by our fans.
This is added to when there were boos anytime the ball was kicked long. Very difficult for our defence to gain any confidence from the crowd at the moment in my opinion.

Shane, those you were talking about, they are Liverpool fans?

Yeah I was shocked I get to a game a year at best but that was one of the worst atmospheres I've experienced anyway.
Nearly came to blows with the guy beside me as he was yelling vile abuse from the start at karius and lovren. I told him not to turn up to only be a cynical . what's worse is at 2-1 down he was almost happy that he had "been proved right" it was rather pathetic.

Oh. I remembered when I first get to know about Liverpool, I read somewhere about how most were praising the fans for supporting not just the team, but sometimes even the oppositions. Quite shocked and dissappointed to know this Shane.

Sorry you had to go through that, Shane as that was disgraceful. Unfortunately, fans like that exist at every club.

Harry, makes a great point. Migs is a failure, FACT. We all were furious when Klopp gave him a new contract at the very time he was being hammered in the media. That was his way of protecting him and we all agreed that a new GK was needed.

He brought in Karius and now suddenly, temporary amnesia is setting in and many now think Klopp is unfair to Migs and conveniently forgot that Migs had been atrocious for three years and did not play a single preseason game until Karius broke his hand. Had he not, he would have started the season as no. 1 GK. If Migs was that great, he would not have been a failure and Karius wouldn`t be here.

The stats don`t tell the whole story, tho. Karius has been a lot better than Migs as he has made saves that Migs would have let in as he led the PL in goals conceded on the first shot on target last season. Some good shot stopper, he is. Karius is the starter and should be given enough time (not 9 pathetic games) to prove himself as the talent and potential is definitely there.

The irony in saying support the player who's struggling then proceeds to slag off the other player.

Kman, no irony at all.
One has struggled consistently for 3 years, you of all people have probably slagged him off the most.
The other is young, clearly talented (2nd best goalie in Bundesliga last season), and has only had ~10 games so far. Despite only making 2 major mistakes, the fans are already on his back, even before the West Ham game.

Harry, have you never been "back to your ex when your current one is struggling"?
You're missing out mate 😉.

Thank you for the response, Shewsbury as you took the words right out of my keyboard. Kman, Migs was already deemed to be average the day he arrived but like many others, I was willing to give him a chance and he did have some good games for us. Unfortunately after three seasons unchallenged as the no. 1 GK, I will no longer support a known and verifiable failure. That is not slating him. That is verifiable facts.

I personally didn`t care who we brought in provided Migs was no longer GK anymore as I was fed up with him costing us goals (and there`s a long list of those) . Karius has come in and I am prepared unlike many knee jerk posters on here, to give him enough time (not 9 pathetic games) to prove me wrong or right about his highly regarded potential.

If I didn`t judge Migs after 9 games, I will not judge Karius after 9 games either. That is only fair, right? Karius needs my support as Migs needed mine and I gave it to him until he proved to be a failure. I propose many posters do the same because getting on his back unnecessarily will not help him.

Karius has had a shocking couple of games but doesn't mean he's down and out, he'll be fine, done well considering he's just come to this league and is still young, watch him shine next season. I wouldn't be too happy to see Migs back in goal, he's nothing short of useless, he could do well for a championship team but not Liverpool.

Harry, a small edit to your post, we wanted a better keeper, Karius isn't that yet. If we keep falling behind the leaders the calls will only get bigger.

I didn't hear any abuse of Karius on Sunday apart from the odd "what was he doing? " after the 2nd goal went in. It was soon drowned out by singing.
Clattenburg got booed twice and a half time.
Andy Carroll got a nice round of applause when he came on.
