Ed's do you think Salah will sign a new contract?

{Ed025's Note - for me yes DTD, the money amount and length of contract will of course be issues but it would be silly if the club were to let him leave, he wants to stay so there is a deal to be done mate..

Good to see old age hasn’t made you cynical Ed, lol.
I’m the same, I’m hoping he’ll sign as well.

{Ed025's Note - he has to sign juicer otherwise liverpool are just a top 4 side, without him you dont have the quality to win things im afraid...hes that important mate..

Can we really see fsg paying 400,000 plus a week to Salah, one thing for sure is this is chump change too certain elite clubs and if we want too keep the pace we need him signed, as mentioned in other posts we don't know how serious mo is about staying people who come on here throughout the years will know about what ed 02 has informed us about salah an his agent.

400k a week is basically £21m per year with a 4 year contract and a signing bonus and would imagine some to his agent so £100m deal. I would imagine Salah brings in that over 4 years on commercial deals alone.

His replacement would cost £70m plus plus, agrents fees, signing on etc so another £100m plus wages £200k a week, so more like £150m plus but they won’t be as good as Salah absolutely no chance. Maybe we could sell him for £60m in the summer but we still only break even on the deal.

You end up with someone like Sancho who is not even 20% of Salah. You will end up having to sign 2 or even 3 players to replace him. The owners have to make this happen.

Personally, while I hope he signs, I think it will be another coutinho scenario.
He will ngo and we will re invest the money to build the team that Klopp will leave for his successor (which I really hooe will be Ten Hag btw. )
Not nearly idk, just my gut feeling.

One possible scenario is that the club sell Mane and Firmino in the next season or two, bring in say £30 - 40m and use that money to fund Salah.
As he gets older, I can see Salah playing down the middle more.
Liverpool would buy affordable pacey replacements for wide areas, players on frees like Traore etc.
Selling Salah in the Summer doesn’t make sense now, his premium value (like Coutinho’s was) has gone.

I want Salah to stay but maybe we can sell him and get Mbappe for free. If not possible then he has to stay no matter what.

Brilliant post, Mark. I fully agree. I think like Ed25, he will sign cos in my opinion, the club would have a very hard time trying to convince the fan base that letting Salah go was a good decision esp if he finished the season the same way he has started it.

{Ed0666's Note - If FSG don’t extend Salah’s contract I foresee a rocky road ahead between da base and ownership. A fault line that is unrepairable in my opinion.

I literally logged on to say pretty much the exact same thing Mark, very well put.

A replacement for someone who provides the same numbers as Salah would easily be a 100 million plus package. and woukd still be a gamble. Take that 100 million and sign this man down for the next 4 years. I agree with ed25, it's that important for our future successes.

Mark stop being so negative 😜.

23 Oct 2021 15:56:43
Mark on a serious note that’s spot on mate. Only problem is you missed out the other option. And that would be to sell Salah at say 150 mill (200k a week wages saved) and replace him with say 50-70 mill player on 120-150k a week.

This meaning the business men make not only a large profit in the transfer but save 50-70k a week rather than paying out 400-500k a week.

Please don’t think this is me being pessimistic as I want Salah to stay more than anything. Just being a realist of what the other option is.

Now you can reply and accuse me of being negative 🤣. I’ll take your heat mate 👀😜.

Love it Jk. The £150m ship has sailed though with only one year left on his contract. At least one good thing, keeping Salah is something we all can agree on.

14.) 23 Oct 2021
23 Oct 2021 18:40:47
Markp08 agree 110%. We’d never see £150m for him. 30 years old and last year of his contract, we’d get a 3rd of that if we’re lucky, then who do you replace him with? There isn’t any quality out there at FSG prices, and given that Edwards is leaving in the summer, there’ll be no rabbits being pulled out if hats.

15.) 23 Oct 2021
23 Oct 2021 18:50:45
Get your point lads but 150 was just a random figure. Let’s say then we sell him for 100 and replace him with a 60 mill player or sell for 80 and spend 50. The point being would you bet your mortgage on FSG spending huge on a Salah replacement if he did go.

{Ed0666's Note - they’d have to spend to appease the fans

16.) 23 Oct 2021
23 Oct 2021 21:12:47
JK. Mate we’ll never get three figures for Salah. 50/ 60m max. Age and length of contract are huge factors, if he was 25 then it would be achievable, Markp08 is absolutely right. I’d bet my mortgage on FSG going cheapskate and punting on someone like Dembele or Traore, ed002 has explained where our interest lies and it ain’t in the Mbappe’s and Haalands of this world. If they’re not going to sanction £400’000 pw for Salah, they’re certainly not going to sanction £500’000 pw for Haaland or Mbappe. Salah goes he’s going to be replaced on the cheap. Don’t conflate the owners spending money on the stadium with them giving a F about anything else.

Spot on, Ed. I can understand why some fans and prolly some at the club, could be concerned about giving a long term contract on big wages to a 29 yr old and all that BUT I think they don’t have a choice here.

Salah is desperate to stay and we fully intend to keep him so at least there is that. However if they screw this up just like the ESL fiasco that the fan base for the most part is still reeling from then, they are in for a world of hurt from a fan base and PR perspective, IMO.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m not so sure he’s desperate to stay Salah will do what’s best for him and his career and rightly so. He won’t be sacrificing himself for the club.

23 Oct 2021 19:15:26
Ed0666 I get that mate and I really hope they would. Weren’t they quoted as saying they don’t listen to outside noise and never will about 2 weeks ago though. Speculation being they were talking about fans opinions.

{Ed0666's Note - personally and I’ve said this on many occasions I think Salah coming out and saying he wants to stay has absolutely snookered FSG. We all now that was an ultimatum. Pay me or I’m off. FSG are now in a pickle a real mess. Now do they do the same for Mane? Bobby? Hendo & Virgil have already already negotiated big money contracts and will be elder statesman. Somethings gonna have to give. If Salah signs do they offer or not offer a big extension to mane whose coming on to 30. Somethings got to give somewhere. Fascinating times ahead
