Every time I see him reminds me of playing PES! Good read Ed.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate. He was one hell of a player.}

Another good read Ed. These articles are class. That one was genuinely sad, I remember playing as Parma on Fifa, because Adriano was so good, there was an Italian midfielder who was insanely highly rated it as well (can not remember his name) . I only came to PES later on, I remember I could only score with Pauleta haha.

Did not really get the opportunity to watch Adriano much, I remember watching Ronaldinho as a kid in the 2002 world cup. That Brazil team was special, when you look back, so many good players. I don't think Neymar is good enough to lace the boots of Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo. It is crazy that Ronaldinho ended up in prison, his issues seem similar to Adriano in someway.

I got to see Rivaldo live when Liverpool played Olympiacos. He was frustrated out of me that game, mainly because he was so good, but went down like a sack of spuds whenever he could.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate. Shame you never really got to see Adriano, he was special.}

Great article Ed001.
A huge shame what happened to Adriano, sadly the party culture seems to be very ingrained in a lot of the Brazilian players really limiting what their true potential could have been if they worked hard like a Lampard or a Cristiano.

{Ed001's Note - yeah, they just want to be at the carnival, rather than thinking they could do everything they want at the end of their career, but with a lot more medals.}

You have to love a wayward Brazilian striker. Just like Edmundo, they really didn’t give a f***.

Ed you mentioned a great partnership with Mutu, how good do you think he was before ruining his own career?

{Ed001's Note - which one? Mutu? He was very good, not Adriano good, but a really talented forward.}

The BBC recently did a load of articles on past players (not taking anything away from your article Ed! ), quick Google search should find them. Really interesting stuff. I think he had a lot of demons to contend with, sad really.

Adriano was the absolute cat's whiskers for those 4-5 years. Tore up the Série À with Inter Milan that one year when he was unbeatable and untouchable. On his day he was as good as Ronaldo (R9), sometimes better. Speed, strength and technique; he had it all. Neymar and piddly play would look like a sissy when compared to Adriano.

It's not surprising to me that his career went off a cliff because I've seen it happen so many times with Brazilians. A family tragedy is always grave but still over time, one can surmount it; it happens to all of us. But the party life and being unable to be disciplined and "professional" is something that comes up frequently with Brazilian players; it's their view of football as a part of the great life and to be enjoyed along with the dancing and drinking.

Appreciate this Ed001, knew you would nail this once you had the time, was definitely worth the wait.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Rook, I appreciate that.}
