From what I have read in the past, a Super League or whatever else you want to call it is going to happen. Maybe not this badly timed PR disaster but we have all seen Ed002s posts on what will happen in the future which the "elite" 21 clubs discuss maybe a couple of times a year.
So even if this Super League doesn't kick off, we are only just kicking the can down the road.
Also the "elite" 21 groups idea seems to be moving completely from their prospective leagues, maybe a two tier league eventually but still a closed shop.
I don't agree with any of it at all but you have to fear that even if we win this battle, we won't win the war!
Would Liverpool fans be happy in the future to be stuck in a Premier League while some of the top English Clubs and all the top clubs in Europe play in an Elite League?

IR, this whole Super League notion is not new. In fact if my memory serves me well, they have been talking about this since 1998 so it was only a matter of time till this became reality cos the big clubs wanted the very same things back then, that they want now (more money, power, influence etc) . Will it happen? Probably BUT I fully agree that it won't be for right now.

We missed the gravy train in 92 with moores and Perry it’s takin 30Years to catch up! Football is changing we either get with it and don’t!
There is no values in football no more it’s a massive global business no matter what fans or people think!
Neville and Carra are getting plenty of air time because sky them selves aren’t getting a look in and will be down millions!
What I’m reading is these clubs want their power back from uefa or fifa!
It’s not a closed league as Perez has said I think when then plans are fully laid out more people will Come around!
I know the owners are greedy parasites but football changed back in 1992 when the big money came in!
We either get with it or be left behind like last time!
Like Ed said won’t be long before a player is on 1m a Wk and only the top teams will be paying that!
If we want to be up there this is how it goes unfortunately!
Sorry for the rant!

We are not making a jump to a platform where others are joining rather we are acting as the orchestrators for building the platform. Even if others make the jump, I hope that we never do it. Football as we know could come to an end if this materialises.

The core principle here that stinks is the anti-competitive nature of what has been proposed.

Remove the 'security' of the 'Founding 15' and the ESL is no better or worse than any of the other proposed changes to the UCL.

The thing is, American sports, especially their football, is extremely popular and very keenly contested, and there’s no relegation in that.
What competitive integrity is lost by that is made up through the players draft system.
Meaning that there’s much less ongoing domination by one team.

Juicer - you're spot on. But the challenge here is understanding that.

Juicer, I don’t think that system would work in a sport that was built on a completely different premise. The nba, nfl evolved into what it is today and remains very popular in North America, they aren’t exactly globalised sports even if they’re broadcasted globally, where are the popular nba or nfl teams from abroad? There are none that anyone cares about anyway. Maybe that’s based on their geography but the structure of their sports is also what the problem is. British sports have always been based on a different premise and they’re much more globalised and I think cricket and football are both more popular than any American sport.

Essentially, I’ll liken this to many of the foreign things the Americans end up tainting. For example, they take a film or a show from a foreign country that was extremely popular, they make their own version of it, and it ends up being a complete and utter flop, I haven’t seen an example of it working out yet. You won’t be able to Americanise football, especially when the sentiments the fans have vanish once liverpool isn’t based in liverpool anymore and we end up playing loads of our ‘home’ games in the states or China. Anfield won’t even be a factor anymore.

The Juicer - American sports are popular primarily in the US with pockets of fans outside. The reason for their relative financial success is that America is an enormous country and a financial behemoth, not because of the way they govern their leagues. No American sport can even dream of comparing to the global following of football - a sport played in every country across the world.
The no-relegation idea is a non-starter.
