Hi Ed’s, how far off is Sepp VDB from being an option at the back? Also, not sure if I’m watching a different player to a lot of reds, but Nat Phillips other than the odd misplayed ball looks solid. His pace will come as he gets up to ‘speed’ with the premier league and competes against opp forwards. Just my imo.

{Ed001's Note - he was about 220 miles off last night, but sometimes he is quite close, depends on where the game is being played really.}

Ed001s done you there mate 😂. Personally I'd class nat as a no nonsense defender, no frills but gets it done. He also did well to play the whole second half on a yellow, although he was helped by spurs not attacking him more.
Yes he won't play out from the back but he's our 4th choice cb, he isn't going to be perfect.
Keep him in there and see how he gets on, I prefer him to Williams who is still raw.

He wasn't even our 4th choice CB, he got there by default but he has reasonable experience at a certain level, which is far better than Williams has. That makes him a shoe in for me.

IR, the thing is if Phillips had played at Old Trafford and got torn to bits (which he would have) we’d all be singing a different tune?
He didn’t have much to do last night and West Ham will have Antonio back I presume.
Hobson’s Choice.

Nats done ok needs to face the man citys to see if he’s got enough in his locker.

I don't its about if he got enough in his locker. Nobody is remotely suggesting that he is the answer, just that he is a better fit than Williams, nothing else.

I'd be inclined to take a chance of Van Den Berg ahead of the two of them to be honest. Think people are going a bit over the top about Phillips, im not expecting miracles but i get nervous every time the ball goes near him.

{Ed002's Note - It seems Klopp does not agree.}

Every time I’ve seen van den berg play he’s been miles off.

Isn’t he likely to go out on loan this jan?

Williams is so slow, if he played like Sami then fine, but with our high line you need pace.

I think williams will become a great reader of the game, but for me, at this point, a no nonsense approach (especially and maybe someone who can head at set prices in the opposite box) may be valuable.

I'm edging towards Phillips.

In fairness that would have been mostly when he first came in last year Peg, he was 17.It was 18 months ago and to be honest even then he looked as capable as the other two. probably a bit scrawny compared to Phillips but im sure he's filled out a bit since then.
