All this bull I keep reading Liverpool are overpricing there players, anyone who follows Liverpool know that we buy players and sell them on for a profit if it doesn't work out, shaq is a example £13m paid he's worth £25m all day, villa value grealish at £100m.

Agree I think a team getting Shaq at £13mil, if he stays fit is a steal. Got to factor in for the purchasing team he will want a substantial salary perhaps so overall costs will likely be much higher.

So if he is a steal at the price why don't we keep him. If we don't want him we should sell according to market.

3.) 28 Jun 2021 15:59:34
A player is worth what clubs who want him are willing to pay. There's no direct linear comparison that player X cost £100m so player Y must be worth at least £25m cos X isn't 4 times as good as Y.

Unless we want to suggest that Maguire is better than van Dijk and Kepa better than Alisson cos they cost more?

Well we are not selling to club like man city. that's the difference. Of course Grealish do not 100mil, but why would villa set the price lower to club with financial power like man city.

In what world is Shaq worth £25m?

6.) 28 Jun 2021 17:02:44
Only in Football Manager, mikey.

The reason we overprice our players is the Coutinho example. Although we risk not being able to sell fringe players, depreciating their value as they see out their contracts with us and losing them for free, when we do sell, it more than makes up for when we don't.

Also clubs who want our best players know they are going to have to pay through the roof. Remember we used to be a selling club. Our tough negotiating stance now makes other clubs think twice before trying to sign our players as they know we will financially pull their pants down in any sale.

I'd say Solanke had a bigger impact on what we think our squad players are worth than Coutinho.

Coutinho was extremely well rated at the time, was considered by pundits and a lot of fans to be both our best player and potentially one of the best in Europe, scored 12 goals in half a season for us whilst barely trying, and his transfer, although steep, wasn't completely out of whack with the inflated fees going at the time.

Solanke on the other hand had been at the club a year, hardly ever started, didn't impress from the bench, scored once and we somehow bagged the guts of £20m for him.

9.) 28 Jun 2021 19:05:44
Something Red, you are right. Solanke shows what we can get for our squad players. But ultimately we cannot sell all of our squad players like that, for example, we could have got £15m for Harry Wilson a year ago but we wanted more and there is no way we will get that now. So there are pros and cons of that strategy.

My point on Coutinho is that we got so much for him that our selling policy on our big players like him has to take precedence on how it is best to deal with our squad players. So although it might make financial sense on selling some of our squad players who are not in the plans rather than loaning or keeping them around, the money we get for players like Coutinho is worth so many more times their sales values. How many reasonably-priced Marko Grujics could you buy with the Coutinho money? Probably 15 at least. Therefore we cannot be seen to show any weaknesses in our negotiation policy when selling players because it really pays dividends when we sell big. For our squad players at the moment it is a splattering of victories and defeats in the current market.

If we can get 20 mill for Solanke and 26 mill for Brewster, then we should be able to get 25 mill for Shaq.
Even Championship players are going for about 30 mill these days.
Just note this was posted before France v Switzerland.

Bournemouth is no longer here to overpay for our cast-offs. That’s the problem. Shaq (a player we signed for 13m 3 yrs ago) is worth 25m? What are they smoking down there at Anfield.

i am very interested how liverpool are going to handle coutinho. Southampton and rb leipzig have dug there heals in. Keita is definetly staying, VVD may stay, but if we fold under pressure FSG will be massively under pressure especially our failings in the transfer market. I know we ain't barcelona and players want to go, but we have got 3 weeks to get players in. Already missing lallana, studge, clyne etc.

i do not blame him for wanting to go, its the timing of the request. Barcelona have got £200m to spend and struggling to find netmar replacement. If we sell we have got to get a replacement before he's sold.
