Transfer window of balance. The club are victims of own success with rising wages/ contract renewals and bonuses paid out over last few year have eroded profits and this years kity. Despite record earnings for CL / TV deals and more money from Standard Charter.

The club is being prudent. Liverpool transfer committee and team of PhD Analysts are doing a great job working to a plan and strategy. With average age of team currently with lots of potential growth in squad. Means only a certain profile of player at non-disruptive wage level and growth mindset will be signed. Only a limited number of players are suitable for the profile of the project. That won't rock the reward system.

The training complex and potential expansion of the ground and overall level of investment last year significantly funded by Coutinho sale have been factors for the lack of investment this year.

Next year's summer window will be a good one for fans with 2-4 marquee players part-funded by new kit deal. This will be due to a few stars naturally moving on and due to finances stabilising. Sorry to be defeatist. But at best can only see one player in the £20-£40m level signed this year.

Real bonus this year has been none of the top 5 players wanting out for the first time in my years.

Bar Salah, who has been wanting out pretty much since we bought him.

Thanks SBRed- that was a good post. Though I would say you aren't being defeatist. You are just stating what according to the well informed people at the club is the right strategy right now. It may backfire if we face an injury crisis, but there are no guarantees in life- as things are, our strategy to spend carefully is the right one.

Irish Rover, mate I think you are a bit harsh on Salah there. He's been our best player overall for 2 seasons and he's a great role model on and off the field (bar the tendency to go down a bit easily) . We got to understand that a player of his calibre can be earning 2-3 times what he earns with us easily at another club. He's being totally respectful to our club and fans and has given everything to us. Any good team will offer him 300k per week to play for them but he's happy at Liverpool for less than that. You can't blame him for wanting to discover his options especially if they are going to double or triple his earnings. As long as he doesn't hold the club hostage for a pay rise, he's good.

Hi hhanif005
Clubs aren't knocking Salah's door offering him £300k a week. He, through his agent has been begging the big Spanish clubs to take him, pretty much a few months after he joined. Now, for me that is a much disrespectful to the club who signed him and no doubt gave him a nice pay rise when he joined. Facts are facts! I'm not saying he hasn't played well or done a great job, he has but at least leave it a few season before you get your agent to start talking to clubs. That is not a sign of a great person.

Yeh I read the same thing as you a couple of days ago. I don't buy it though I'm looking at Klopps reactions and I think he wants to buy players but they won't let him this window. I can see frustrations in interviews especially when he starts going on about City, Barcelona n Madrid. I think he wants signings personally.

Your post makes sense of course but it's mostly due to the fact that last 18 months transfer business was so succesfull that we've seen such huge improvement that was probably expected to take 2 summers, . It can be argued that the 3 or 4 marquee signings you mention next summer mightnt even be necessary too. If Brewster, keita, origi, OX can kick it up a level it would be great. If 1 or 2 of vdb, kjh, larrouci, Lewis, elliot can show progression similar to Trent or Gomez in the past we might be set up nicely.

I agree FC8. I’d even go as far as saying that we was hoping Salah jumped if there was a hint that he was preoccupied with a move, and he could invest. He liked Pepe but couldn’t get him while there wasn’t a starter space, similar with Bruno. I know for a fact that he has asked to be kept in the loop with Sane and REAL likes him, however insane the idea of City selling him to us is. If he stays and Sane stays at City I could see us flogging him next year and investing £100m in Leroy. All his other fancies have moved. If Sane goes Bayern then we will he scratching our head wondering who replaces Salah.

Liverpool are victims of their own success. The challenge of working to a plan. Despite a record year of turnover last year the club are having to balance the books due to record increases in wages and bonuses being paid for the cup win. Coupled with the 50m training ground project and.

Going to the game on Sunday anyone recommend a good pub for Reds supporters. Thanks Eds for all your good work. I realised not posted since 2015, since dark days of Brenda. I won't leave it so long. Good times ahead.

1 step forward 2 steps back. Looking across the team beyond Benteke there are a lack of players in this squad that have scored beyond double figures in their domestic league. Tough decision for BR and the team does he try to play expansive or play defensive. Think we still need another attacking midfielder or winger that will be able to provide this 10 goals.

Could be in real trouble for UTD game. Would drop Lovren for this game his confidence is shot. Watching Caraghers video after the Manu game last year and the lad hasn't improved. The system at Southampton made him look good was able to make similar mistakes but other players got him out of jail.

Perhaps a risk but would love to see Ings with Benteke for this game upfront but would probably be too much of a gamble having two forwards as our midfield could be swamped. Benteke needs a little help up top.

My biggest gripe has been Lallana over the last 12 months, not a good enough number 7 or 10 - think he'll only come good when 2-3 other attacking players are in top form. Lack of games where he's been a real game changer. It's a huge season when he comes back lots to prove.

My gut feeling after a small number of games is that LFC will finish 5/6. Yesterday's result reveals how badly both AFC and LFC are playing. Perhaps fans read too much into the draw earlier this week.

Think us fans are in for roller coaster ride this season. Shepherds Bush Red

The diff in the game was one manager had a plan and his players executed it to the T while another had no plan nor ability to react tactically to the probs that arrived during the game. Must do better.

2-0 down at home vs west ham,,, half time,,, Brendan brings a defender on ?

3.) 30 Aug 2015 19:17:20
There lies the issue. He doesn't react quickly to in-game situations quickly. Twenty minutes into the game, it was clear to everyone what needed to happen as in play a 442 get Benteke more help and open up the game. Actually, I had no prob with Moreno coming on. It should have been for Gomez and then Ings on for Can. Theses changes should have been made way earlier but again, he dithered and b4 we knew it Couts got sent off an the game was virtually over.

Look it's a horrible result but move on , international break and then that lot away let's get it together like the arsenal away 1st half and we will cause them many a headache , I am still annoyed over yesterday though but being a supporter means just that .
