Nice write up Tris, I agree RE Trent I feel we need to have him in central areas as often as possible.
I get the feeling Gomez might get some RB minutes this year with Trent in a CM role a lot more.
Not sure Trent is the key to our #6 issue though, I'd much rather see him as an #8 personally.

Do you think it would be wiser to bring in a RB who can play CB (Pavard type player) instead of another CM after Lavia?
I'm also intrigued why it looks like we're loaning out Bradley.

{Ed001's Note - why would you want Trent as an 8? His vision is so good and his passing range that he is better slightly deeper where the play is in front of him surely? Plus he is very capable of reading the play and breaking up attacks there. He needs responsibility to bring the best out of him imo.

If we are bringing in Pavard then I would be annoyed as he is not good. We need a left sided centre-back more than anything. Why would we want a right-back/centre-back? We are not short of right-sided defenders.}

Great stuff Ed001. Many thanks.

Ed I have to agree with the formation bit, just use Trent in the middle. Another point on that for me is that the formation is just for Trent. If he’s not available or needs a rest, do we change our formation? If you play him in the middle, and he’s not in, Alexis or Thiago could play his playmaking role, but neither are filling in at right back when we lose it.

{Ed001's Note - spot on mate. It is overcomplicating things.}

Missed the game yesterday so really appreciate the write up Ed.

I’ve seen nothing but plaudits for Jones in the deeper role and interesting to hear that’s where he played for England U21’s in the summer as well.

Leicester had a pretty strong team out yesterday so despite there being other things in life to worry about it’s still a very good outing for all players involved.

Tough one on Wed against Bayern and interesting to see if Klopp continues with 2 teams or we look to extend minutes for a lot with Chelsea on the horizon.

Also good luck to all in the Ballots today for first half of the season ticket draw.

{Ed001's Note - I really hope we start increasing the minutes now. It is getting a bit close to the season start to only be playing 45 minutes.}

Great stuff as usual Ed1 as i don't have time to watch the match. Btw Ed, the way i see it this inverted system make it too crowded in the middle. It also make Salah way too far from the goal which i personally don't like. But i read your comment that Salah have been good playing there, so what do I know.

{Ed001's Note - I prefer Salah further inside, but he has looked so good this pre-season in this system, so maybe it can work. I do agree with you in the main though.}

Ed1. I agree. For me the moment we switched to this 3 at a back formation at the end of last season, Robbo’s place was under threat. And pre-season has proved no different. I would even go as far as saying after Lavia we should splash the remaining cash on a left sided defender as opposed to another midfielder. That’s how important I feel the need for one is.

Robbo bombing forward in a back 3 will see VVD and Konate stretched and isolated. That’s why for the life of me I don’t see why we don’t just pay £85 million and sign Josko Gvardiol. The answer to our problems is literally staring us right in the face. He comes in and instantly improves the back line but it appears we are not even making a move for him.

Agree with ed, no point playing Trent as 8 especially with McAllister and szo unless they're haop being benched. Thanks for match report.

Completely agree with Ed, Trent is better stepping forward from right back where he can see the whole pitch.

Him playing centre-mid works for England because they have a load of options at right-back and not so much in the middle, where he is a massive upgrade. Different ball game for us, I'd rather see him continue right-back and bring in a specialist midfielder.

Good write up, again.

Have to agree about Doak; he's absolutely electric to watch, but we can't get carried away over the cameos he's made in pre-season. Definitely looks like we've got a player on our hands there.

What do you think will happen with him this season? - possible loan?

{Ed001's Note - he really needs to develop an end product somewhere, I would prefer that to be under Klopp personally, plus with him being just 17 it can be difficult to loan them as they are still legally seen as children at that age. I think it will be next season that a decision on a loan needs to be made.}

Personally I’d like to see Trent in Fabinho role and spend the money on a quality centre half. Only my opinion though. Thanks for the match review ed001 really enjoy reading them
Up the pool.

{Ed001's Note - I am with you on that. Thank you. I might just stick with this kind of review for the rest of the season though, as I normally do them after watching it through twice, but it takes so much time and is difficult to do with young kids running around.}

I can't see why we'd splash money on someone like Gvardiol unless we are switching to 3 CBs or we are phasing VVD out.

{Ed001's Note - he can play left-back too. So if we are sticking with this system he would be a more sensible option for that side over Robertson/Tsimikas.}

I think one of the reasons that City switched from the inverted fullback formation was that, as Pep himself said, was that Walker was not up up it. Trent is a much more skilful player but it leaves him a let to do getting back to the right flank all the time.

Re Quansah- to be fair to him I have never seen him play the left sided cb role until this game. He usually plays right or central. Think he is a definite prospect and like doak think they can get minutes in the cups, and Europa. more beneficial than a loan IMO.

Great write up. The one thing that's frustrating about Diaz is he can take too long to get the shot away - tries a step over and then goes for goal even in the box tries to beat his man when the shot is there. I read a piece when Jota first came into the team around how he gets his goals and he takes shots first time when it's available and hits it low as often as he can because it's harder for the keeper to get there.

Would like Diaz to add a bit more of that to his game because I think then he'd get his numbers up, he's a fantastic player and no doubt will get better.

Noce one, Ed01. Already in midseason form, I might add. Didn't see the game bt based on all the post game accounts, the boys looked sharp even tho, LC didn't offer the type of opposition you would have thought since their preseason is pretty much over. Seems we still have stuff to work on and decisions to make regarding Trent in the DLP (Deep Lying Playmaker) role or get a DM in to play that role so we will have to see.

Regarding transfers, I hope we get Lavia and a LCB in cos with Robbo bombing forward, we were going to be left in tatters hence, sitting ducks at the back in transition. Peace and Love, man.

{Ed001's Note - I really like Trent in that role, so I hope he gets a chance to make it his own.}

Faith, I think that is the actual point people like me are making for signing Gvardiol. He is the best out there right now to replace VVD so yes, the point of his signing would be the phasing out of VVD. At least, IMO.

{Ed002's Note - He has agreed to join another side.}
