Hi ed001

After our attempts in 2014, including Gerrard asking him to join, were there any further attempts by Liverpool to sign Toni Kroos in the season that followed?

Also something that really interests me have we tried to bring Alonso back when he left Madrid? Funny enough that was in the same window we tried to sign Kroos.

{Ed001's Note - not as far as I am aware to either. I am glad we never got Kroos, massively overrated and not half the player Xabi was.}

Thanks a lot Ed001. Agreed on Xabi being more than twice the player Kroos is. There has been a recent debate about who the greatest Spanish player to play in the Premier League is and without a doubt it is Xabi Alonso.

Many people disagree with me and call me bias but I just don't see how they don't see what I see.

{Ed001's Note - I can't think of one even close to his level.}

Even Silva?

{Ed001's Note - oh good point, I had forgotten about him. Ok it is debatable then.}

Agreed, but after that that there is a definite void. I just wished I had the capabilities to watch Liverpool as much as I do now when Xabi was around. With modern streaming and all. Those were not the days of being able to watch every game. Even so recent as when he was here.

Alonso 1st and Silva 2nd for me. To think we were so close to signing Silva and Villa in 2009. Imagine keeping Alonso and having Silva, Villa, Alonso, prime Reina and Torres in a team with Gerrard and Carra. Mind blown that we were close to that.

I think Santi Cazorla would have been up there if not for his injury issues in his last few year.

he was a classy little player.

Think Silva just edges it because of his longevity and impact on the league.

The silly thing is when Xabi was with us he spent a lot of time on the bench. I also remember when he left everyone just said ‘that’s ok because Gerrard will just drop deeper’.
I suppose you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.

Fernando Torres has to be in that debate too? During his time at Liverpool he made some world class defenders look absolutely bang average. Was he not also the highest scoring overseas player during their first Premier league season? And one of the quickest ever to 50 goals?

He was decimated by injuries but for 3 years he was the best striker on earth, without anyone else even coming close (Messi and Ronaldo were still young wingers at this point though)

Alonso is ahead of Torres for me, but if there is a debate, Torres simply has to be involved in it and I can't split him a Silva. People know my thoughts on Alonso though so I don't need to repeat myself.

David Silva for me, he has been doing the business at Man City for 9 seasons now. His consistency for so long and what he has achieved makes him the best for me.
Xabi Alonso outstanding player too but I would not put Torres at the same level as the other 2.

I loved Xabi but silva by a mile, Xabi did get even better after he left us but for time in the prem has to be silva. Torres would have been right up there if he carried on how he started but injury's stopped him from being right up there with silva. all so fabregas has to be in the talks with the second most assists in the prem history only behind giggs with only just over half the games.

I would go with Silva, Ed01. He has had a brilliant PL career BUT I love my Xabi Alonso and I felt Rafa should have been sacked for trying to force him out.

{Ed001's Note - that is why I said it is debatable. I love Xabi and think he is one of the best at what he did, but Silva's impact on the Prem has been bigger. So I would also opt for him.}

Xabi because first time I saw him play for real it broke my heart more then any other player in my life

Rafa wanted him out for Barry.

Silva for me. Just ahead of Xavi! but two amazing players.
