Great article, the only one I'd disagree with is Grujic - I think his issue is mainly that he's being converted into a deep lying player and that's just not his game. He's being forced to make 10-15 tackles a game where he should be making 4-6 and I just can't see the logic in it, particularly when it restricts his greatest ability (that long shot is just quality) to an occasional sideshow when it should be a constant threat. I maintain confidence that slotting him in further up the field (think Paul Scholes c2002) would see him personally flourish. It would also be of massive benefit to the rest of the team as well - it'll be even harder to spot our front three when you know that any ball breaking to the edge of the area has a pretty huge chance of arrowing its way straight back to the bottom corner because Grujic is waiting there to pounce. I think it's just time to for Klopp to accept that the player he bought is the player he bought, not the one he wanted to mold him into and make the best out of a pretty good situation.

Great article MK, I'm not usually one to praise but I enjoyed reading that!
With regards to Grujic, I don't think he's burnt his bridges at all and his performances with Cardiff are earning him another chance at the club. If Cardiff go up, which they surely will now, I'd hope that he goes back on loan there for another season unless Klopp thinks he's ready to play regularly for us. He needs regular gametime so hopefully he's managed correctly.

Cheers Salah, mate.

I know what you mean Hijkle. Grujic's natural game seems to be behind a striker in a similar way that Fellaini plays. Flick ons, hold up play, driving shots back in from the edge of the box or even attacking the penalty area. I'm just not sure Klopp would ever utilise that kind of tactic. Grujic lacks the mobility to play higher up in Klopp's system, for me.

I hope you're right DaRedMan. I'd love Grujic to make it with Liverpool. Klopp isn't very forgiving though. He put his reputation on the line to get Grujic that work permit by personally getting involved in his appeal. Grujic thanked him by not even training hard enough to stay fit.

I Don't want to believe Grujic is a complete lost cause though. I'd love it if he helped Cardiff come up and impressed enough in pre-season to go on loan again for another season. He has to improve vastly, though he definitely has it within him to do so.

Totally agreed about Hendo, you were bang on about him. Not quite world class but doe put in world class performances sometimes.

Totally agree about gini too, I love him but can see why people don't I think he could be come our next lucus if he puts in training in that area.

Milner I didn't fully agree. He has played Cm and Rm a lot in his career. And you have to remember the cms we play are not like the cms in a 442, the right centre mid is a bit like a Rm with a Cm and a Lm, so this is a role milner knows well. I think he has always been an offensive player though and this is Shere his weakness in cm is. He has played lb and rb tbf and ain't terrible defencivel.

I think our midfield is decent but needs work

In the deeper role Hendo is class but injury prone, Can is leaving and I hope Grujic gets another 12-18 months on loan to mature

In the box to box roles I agree 100%, Gini is great at times but can be hit and miss but doesn’t score enough. I will rate him though. Milner is steady, but can go AWOL at times, and also doesn’t score enough.

In the more attacking role, I think you’re harsh on Lallana, he’s very effective at pressing, but hit an miss with the ball. it’s more his movement that makes him dangerous. He’s too injury prone though and likely to move on. Ox I think is a very good ball carrier but needs to learn to break down packed defenses and also needs to prove he can be a goal scorer IMO.

I think our best starting midfield now is Hendo, Gini and Lallana (or maybe Ox at the moment)

Next season I think keita will be huge as can do it all, defence, ball carrier, passer and scorer. I’d like to see us lineup as Hendo, Keita and Ox starting with Gini and at least one incoming (Deep midfielder) or two (attacking mid), then Woodburn and perhaps Grujic starting to get more regular game time.

Cheers SuperSalah. It's not that I think Milner is bad. I just think we are now trying to go to a level he isn't good enough for. The same reason City got rid of him. He is good enough to get you into the Champions League and out of the group, but Is he good enough to be playing in the Quarter or Semi finals of that competition? I just think we've outgrown him.

Thanks for the reply SGred. Unfortunately with Lallana, I had to judge him on the majority of his Liverpool career. He did admittedly have a very good 6 month spell at the start of last season where he started scoring and creating goals, but the majority of his Liverpool career has been him running around aimlessly and achieving very little, whilst mouthing off to the press. Either that, or him sat on the treatment table!

For all his good in his 4 years with us, there has still been mainly bad. He has had some fantastic moments. His Newcastle goal, his Norwich goal, his Middlesborough performance etc. I just think that like Milner, we've outgrown him. Lallana and Milner are top 8 players. We are striving for more than that now. Plus they are both in decline. We want to be top 2; either winning the title, or at least pushing the side who does. Lallana is injured again by the way. Up to 3 weeks with a thigh injury. It's just never ending with him.

I'm not really in the know Deisered, but I reckon we'll sign Lemar and Ceballos. If there is anyone on top of that, I really couldn't say. Demirbay if I was pressed for an answer?

In short we will have a new midfield unit for the summer and it would something like this. Jorginho / Henderson - Keita / Doucoure - Lemar. AOC and Wijnaldum on the bench while Lallana, Milner and Can on their night way out!
Jorginho - Keita - Lemar would be exceptional!

But I could not agree with Adam Lallana.

It honestly feels like I'm reading posts and articles written by people who started watching football this season. He has played averagely so far this season Al hough I'm starting to see a slight improvement, this is because he had a horrendous injury that he is still recovering from, it happened last year, in the summer, match sharpness and fitness doesn't come straight away. Think of all the training and development he has missed out on. I was so gutted when he was injured. November it was said by e would return but its been much harder more than that. He would have been amazing in this team this season if he hadn't picked up that serious injury.

Last season he was one of out top 5 players, I would say

Mane
Coutinio
Lallana
Firmino
Henderson.

Now some may have issue with the order but not the players I'm sure.

Lallana was brilliant, puts in 7/ 10 every week! What! Go find some site that shows out of 10 match ratings for last season. Up until about late November he was our best player. He was still brilliant after that little peak. Lallana is a brilliant tackler, (never gets enough credit for it, it's always said in a surprised sounding pundit voice when ads takes the ball of matic's foot) he has vision coming out of his arse (which is both a burden and a gift) his movement is great, he can run with the ball and beat people with technical skill. The thing he needs to do better is finish. He got an okay stash of goals last season (don't think it was 10, but I'd be surprised if it was less than 6) he got into a lot if good positions last year and didn't always tuck them away.

You talk consistently. Well, he was consistently brilliant last season. He was also England's best player at the Euros.

Spot on about Hendo and gini, good article. Sorry for going on about lallana, it's just I've seem a few posts recently all sating how average he is and it drives me nuts. He is fighting match fitness and match sharpness. We probably won't see the nest of lallana till next season, I hope not, I hope he gets there ASAP for both Liverpool and England coz a fully sharp Adam lallana is a great weapon.
