Am I the only who who feels our midfield is lacking in quality at present despite having no shortage in quantity? Keita, Lemar/ another top quality player who can play the playmaker role and someone who can break up play but still spray the ball around e. g. Ceballos, who seems interested in the move would be the remedy in my humble opinion. Admittedly it's a lot of change but I feel our midfield really needs a revamp.

If we can find a few more pennies then I'd love us to sign Alisson as a long term fix to our goalkeeper situation and if we were to get all of this done then we would be genuine title contenders.

{Ed0333's Note - I agree our midfield lacks the neccecary quality for a side trying to win the Premiership and the champions league.

Agree. feel like we have a bunch of good players like lallana, ox, Hendo, can and gini but none of them can dominate on a consistent basis. I look at our front line and I see 3 guys who are as good enough to walk away into any teams starting line up
I don't think we can say that about any mids.

This is why we bought Keita and potentislly another mid.

Personally wouldn't go to that extent. We are unbeaten in Europe, unbeaten in 19 games in a row is it? And dominate 95% of games possesion wise. We seem to overlook the dog work hendo and gini do, I think they, along with ox tick like clogs in a clock. I'm scared we are going to throw that away with the more flair/ flamboyant players that we are linked with. With couts gone indefinitely agree we need one in, with keita being an upgrade on gini. That said I wouldn't mind hendo/ keita/ ox as our midfield three, it seems, on paper to tick all the boxes needed. E.

If you wander over to the ManU site you will see fans commenting on how they wish they had a midfield that could dominate possession and press like ours. I agree ours need to work together better as a team (sadly Im starting to think this means getting someone new in as we seem incapable of covering properly for each other) but it does suggest that we might not necessarily appreciate what we have.

Benny I think the midfield concerns are valid, we may dominate possession most weeks but we are not the best at controlling a game either, which is quite different to retaining possession.

We have a decent set of midfield players, the two things you can argue we may lack are a true defensive midfielder (which may be useful in selected games), and we have Gini and Milner in the box to box role who don’t really scare the scoresheet often enough. I never feel like either are going to do something out of the box to unlock a game. Hopefully Keita solves the latter but not sure about the former as we lack someone to back up Hendo for the deeper role when Can leaves.

In terms of replacing Coutinho and creativity, although very different in style Lallana has been very very effective in the attacking midfield role before, with his movement and trickery in tight spaces capable of unlocking sides. Ox likewise a decent shout, but perhaps less effective in a tight space. I would like to see Lemar who has a good shot from distance and good feet come in, think he would add something different. make no mistake though we’ve played some of or best games with Lallana in the forward midfield role so I don’t think we’ll miss Coutinho as much as people think if he manages to hit form. I think the GK situation is far more urgent.

I think what we do need is a proper DM. Last really good defensive midfeilder we had was macherano.

It may also be time to realise that henderson is just not consistent enough to cut it for liverpool. So maybe a need to replace captain and midfielder.

Sad to say Pak, this was realised by most of the fanbase ages ago :)
He has his qualities, but he's just not good enough and that is with no hate/ abuse for the guy - he does try hard, just an honest assessment.

We do need a DM, but like ed001 says, it would help a lot if even our current midfielders were more inclined to cynically foul the opposition on the break like City can do. We are too nice. I'm hoping that getting Keita goes some way toward solving that, he seems to have some venom.

It would also help if Milner and Gini started to put a few in the back of the net, don’t care if it’s late runs into the box or shots from outside the box but right now, neither are delivering beyond the passing and pressing (which they are doing a decent job of but we need more) .

It's one reason why I don't understand why people question Klopp tactically, ok maybe he should be more flexible, but stick a couple of real top class talents in the middle and we really would be a formidable force. Supposedly, one is coming, now we need to find another and we'll be away.

Also, Hendo is our best midfielder by a country mile. He's not the one that needs replacing (when he's fit) .

If Hendo gets fit he'll be a starter for years, he's more than good enough.
