Ed001 I don't like this new formation just leaves us wide open plus we seem to lose a lot of the balance Robbo and Trent gave us down both sides.
I think we need to improve are cb options but I don't get the call for a left footed cb because as much I as think VVD is not the player he was that's the side he plays and is still by far are best defender Konate again the other night looked like a headless chicken charging out to get balls that he was nowhere near getting leaving us wide open he reminds me of Sakho looked good when he was a youngster because he was so big and strong compared to the players of his age but now just looks like he couldn't read a football magazine let alone the game.

Knowing Klopp Ed1, he is most likely won't drop Robbo no matter how much he is struggling playing as a LCB. Just like how persistent he is with this inverted stuff even though it is the reason we are struggling defensively. Which is a shame because our attack is up there with the best. It feels like we are going back to the first few years of Jurgen in which "You score, we will score more" is a real thing.

Robbo is in danger of becoming a Henderson. A player who was always technically limited but had fantastic energy and drive. Problem is, he’s 29 now and the legs will go soon. By that stage he will be completely redundant and a massive weak link and unfortunately will end up as a scapegoat.

Robertson needs to be sold and a player who fits how we’re trying to play brought in. Or sell Tsimikas and keep Robertson as cover and see can he learn the role but he’s shown zero signs since we switched that he’s able for it. There’s plenty of teams who play a way that would suit him that would love to take him. He was probably the best left back in the world a few years back, doesn’t benefit us or him shoehorning him into a role he can’t do.

I totally agree Thomas, Robbo brings energy to the team but this last yr his distribution as been averaging 23 percent of crosses into the box find a red shirt mate, add the fact that he found himself free in the box 9 times in the prem and didn't score once.
Now this is not a hate Robbo post, cause I would say he has worked his butt off for the club and the local community with food banks and stuff, but you are right about him technically and last season's drop off was disguised because the heat came on Trent, yet while Trent was being targeted by the opposition and Media. Robbo wasn't stopping crosses coming in the the box and giving free kicks away to opponents looking for set pieces to hurt us.
I think if this new system is to work he needs to be replaced.
This is the last post I will do on the subject in case posters think I am hating, I am not but I do think his best days have gone though.

Are you concern Ed1 that we will be going into the season without a proper no 6 aka a true defensive midfielder? Bajcetic can play there but i prefer him alongside a DM and it looks like Trent won't be playing there as your wish. It is a concern for me.

I've not gone into a season with so little optimism since Klopp took over. How we've found ourself, with 4 days to go, having off loaded Henderson, Fabinho, Milner, Keita, Ox and Carvalho and only replaced them with 2 is lousy squad management. We really need to pull 3 rabbits out of the hat in the next 3 weeks.

Many of us have been saying this even before the season ended that this system does NOT work cos either it leaves to much for the RCB or LCB to do when we lose the ball. Or we do not have the players like an LCB to play the system hence we are shoe horning a LB to adapt there and us struggling. We could all see this esp in the Spurs game where we blew a 3 goal lead.

People can slate Robbo till their blue in the face BUT the fact of the matter is that this system dies not suit the players we have and Robbo included. So to me, the solution is either we ditch this system and go back to playing the system that brought us success. Or we go back to the successful system and the implement this new system WHEN we have the players to play it effectively. Right now, we’re going to struggle, end of story.

As for the DM role, we all know we need one so hopefully this will get sorted in due time. Just my take.

I feel a bit for Robbo. He’s basically being asked to sacrifice his best position and qualities for the team.

It’s no hidden fact that he is struggling along with the rest of the back 4 but the fact he’s just cracking on with no fuss is testament to the lad.

feel sorry for Robbo, just wish we would go back to 4 3 3 and start pressing all over the pitch again, didn't have the legs last season but surely with the new players we should be able to.

Robertson is a great attacking full back, but as I asked if everyone on here a few weeks back, it isn’t a position we play anymore with this system. IMO opinion we should either play with attacking wingbacks as we previously did but with Trent in midfield or commit to this new system, sell Robertson and Tsimikas and buy a LCB as has been obvious all summer.
