Whether we get 2 or 3 midfielders, the average age of the team looks to have been cut in half, LOL. One more reason to be positive for next season.

Genuine question to those who say 2 midfielders.
Is the third midfielder Trent?
Or If Not, then who is the player from the current squad still good enough/ available enough, to compete with Manchester City for the title?

Or are we going down the whoever isn’t injured route for the third spot?

If I put myself in your thought process I’m assuming we are playing 18yr old Bajcetic in that place. As much as I rate him, I love the guy, surely he’s too young?

{Ed025's Note - Bajcetic is a promising young player LFC8 but i agree with you that hes a bit too inexperienced to be expected to be a regular starter mate..

@Liverpool FC8

I would say Trent, Baj, Thiago and Jones are all good enough to play midfield.

Three new CMs would be nice. I’d take two very good ones though.

I'm not sure that I see having to play Trent in that midfield role when Thiago is fit and on the pitch.
To my mind, Trent is the alternative to Thiago, with either of them playing alongside a DCM.
Both Thiago and Jones have very poor injury records, Bajetic was cramping up in every game he started until he broke down.
Perhaps the ideal is being able to rotate and avoid the raft of midfield injuries we've suffered with.

3 mids in for me. Jones Thiago Henderson all fitness concerns. The more juice we can squeeze out of Hendo and Thiago the better but we can't prepare a season w them in mind. Fabinho could be ok w the right players beside him but he is woefully short of pace and often exposed w the high line case in point the third goal against us at Southampton. Elliott not sure his best position but i don't think it's the mid. Jones needs to show that he can stay fit for a season but he's a good bench option. If we're going to challenge imo we don't have a mid in the current squad we could say should be a nailed on starter next season. Trent if he moves up but that's all. Develop the likes of Bajetic Jones Elliott Morton etc and get what we can out of Thiago and Henderson.

2 new midfielders plus Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago is a solid base of 5 regular starters. Then we have Jones, Elliot and Bacjetic who are fine 6, 7, 8 the choice midfielders. Adding a 3rd midfielder, ala a 9 midfielder, is the same over sized and bloated wages approach we’ve had to the squad that has crippled us the last few years. Last thing we need is to be squad padding which will also reduce opportunities for those young 3 lads who have shown they are more than capable of stepping up

Even City don’t carry that many midfielders.

Robbo if memory served played left centre for Scotland when tierney played wing back, he still managed to get forward nd overlap him too.
If we stick with inverted he will be ok, just that we go to 4 at back when we are without the ball anyway.

Faith I'd like to see us try to move Fab and Thiago on and replace them. Hendo I'd keep around in a Milner type role going forward. Elliott is a wild card for me not sure if he's a midfielder at this point. Bajetic and Jones good options to backup 3 new starters. If we keep Fab and Thiago prob 2 ins will be what we end up w.

I think it would be two midfielders in without any outgoings. As many have mentioned here, we have a bloated midfield so the priority after adding two would be to trim it down.

Thiago would be out of contract next season and I don't think he would be offered a new one so he would be the first one I would like to see be transferred out. He may not fetch a decent fee but getting his wages off the books would be huge for us. I don't see any teams coming in for Fabinho or Hendo but if there are, we should listen to offers for them.

Half of Europe would take your hand off for either Henderson or Fabinhio. Sure both are getting on but to think neither would have any interest is just silly, Milner had a queue.
