I'll caveat this immediately by saying I think he is a very good player, but I do wonder whether Cody Gakpo is the right option for us. From what I saw in the World Cup and to an extent last night, he seems to rely on ball striking and positioning, which is fine - but a far cry from the explosive, dynamic wide players we're used to seeing at the club.

I do worry with Edwards and now Ward gone, we're veering towards signing random players on the whim of the coaching staff. Similarly to Fabio Carvalho and to an extent Elliot. Excellent players in their own right, but wouldn't fit into the system we have been historically successful with under Klopp.

Difficult to tell until he's had a full-season with us. He's certainly different to what we have - which is no bad thing. The one shot he had for example - the way the first touch opened the space for him to shoot with his left. That was good.

I guess we will never know what is happening behind the scenes. From the outside looking in, we look to be a mix of arrogant and random on the recruitment side at the moment.

Agree with this completely. Seems a good technical player but not the type to drive at teams and take people on. Not sure where he fits it at all when Diaz is back.

Who knows, only first game and probably just feeling himself in but wanted him to show a bit more passion and willingness to take risks on the ball. Thought Doak looked better tbh.

How do you know they wouldn't fit the system?

As I said we are going through rebuilding process our attack has changed a lot and soon our midfield will go through same then will have a clear idea where we stand especially when Gapko can play fasle 9 if needed which is important after Firmino leaving.

He doesn’t have enough pace which is worrying for me. Not sure if he is a left winger. His signing has pushed Carvalho out of the door.

Ljinders said he was the missing piece or the perfect player or something it’s 100% his signing. Hopefully he turns out good but he’s a 5th choice forward wouldn’t be expecting him to be the next Mane.

Gakpo has played less than one game for us and he doesn't fit into our system? Which system is that? The possession football one or the gegenpress one? Neither of which are working.
Maybe Klopp is rebuilding the squad and the system which is what most of us want.

I bet he’s glad he joined the Liverpool ‘family’. 60 minutes into his Liverpool career and he’s already being written off. We had another poster on the match page saying how useless he was yesterday.
He’s a young lad that arrived in the country a week ago after playing in the World Cup in Qatar. He’s never played club football outside of his home country before and is probably still living in a hotel but apparently 60 minutes of football is enough to formulate a solid opinion on his chances of success in a Liverpool shirt.
Good luck Cody with fans like this you might need it.

Ball striking? You mean kicking right, yes as a professional footballer he relies on kicking quite a lot, it’s kind of a requirement.

Spot on Beckers Pecker. The knives are out for Gakpo already by the likes of Joshkel91 who with his expertise and infinite wisdom has concluded the kid will be NO good after seeing him play ONE game at the weekend. Like I said, some of our fans are the absolute "best".
