Just heard Jamie Carragher mention that apparently Rodgers picked Lovren over Sakho at the start of the season because Skrtel preferred playing with Lovren.

Is this a regular occurence with managers?

Rail seating (the type of standing that was polled) is incredibly similar to normal seating - people are still given a place to stand (with the same amount of spacing as a normal seat), it just allows the lack of a proper seat. Rail seating makes it physically impossible for crushes to occur on the terrace, as there are barriers across every row. As you've said, people die in crushes regardless of standing or seating - these incidents are not happening because of how people choose to digest their football.
Saying that there won't be safe standing because people are idiots doesn't make sense, these idiots are already going to the games and sitting in a seat, so surely these crushes should already be occurring?
