I reckon we should bring Christian Poulsen back as defensive midfielder. He was a class act. I saw him once at Anfield and he gave a 7 yard pass straight to Stevey with the OUTSIDE of his left foot. It was a great pass. Furthermore, another underestimated player was David Ngog. He scored only 3 goals at Anfield however those goals were absolute clinkers. He hit a 5 yard drive once and I swear the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. They stood up. I know many of you won't agree with this view but hey. aren't we all entitled to our views? And don't get me started on Jovanovic. What a player. What a gem. We let that one get away.

Nicely written, made me laugh out loud and my wife gave me a funny look.

Agree0 Disagree0

On fire! Loving it all.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is really funny, fair play mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Andriy Vornonin - another worldy we let go. I saw him score against Leverkusen in a Friendly once.fantastic player

Agree0 Disagree0

More please!

Agree0 Disagree0

Also, all this talk of needing a new left back. Why oh why did we let Paul Konchesky go!

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember the good old days of Paul Konchesky galloping forward to whip in crosses in front of the Anfield faithful, he were like a pale Roberto Carlos.

How can you forget the combative positional genius that both Djimi traore and Igor Biscan displayed foryears. There was always hope of a clean sheet with those two back there.

Evening Eds. Anything new on Ilori? {Ed002's Note - Not involving Liverpool.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree Dave. Was excited at first and was glad to see us get rid of over paid mediocre players. I haven't seen us replace those with any quality yet though. I feel we are pretty much were we were last year, just paying out less on wages. This means we must have some money available (original transfer kitty minus sales and wages) but not sure if there is enough time or players available to do anything about improving the team now.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2013 22:49:44
Can I just say, is it any wonder that LFC are in debt to the tune of nearly 100 million. We sign Andy Carroll for 35 million and sell for 19 million. We sign Downing for 20 million and look to sell to West Ham for 6 million. Why do we consistently pay well over the odds for players and get very little return when we sell. We need to look at ourselves. We can't continue to lose money. Like we've already wasted 50 million on new stadium designs and now we are staying at anfield. The money men need to realise that we can't waste money.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be fair, the new 'transfer committee' thing seems to be working to me. Sturridge and Coutinho are both of clear quality on very decent transfer fees. Toure was a shrewd move and I think Mignolet is a good choice. Aspas is a bit of an unknown but those that have watched him the past seem to think him a clever signing and he didn't cost the moon. Alberto was I think more a target of opportunity than anything and looks to be a good bit of business as well.

So, yes, the past was awful but so far I like the look of what they've been doing since the January window.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have thrown money out the window and recording losses in fransfers and still fans are bitching about spending more money on marquee signings (whateva that means) just for the sake of it. We have improved our squad. We just need 2/3 more players in key areas. BR has said that he won`t spend money for the sake of it and I fully agree. So I suggest we get behind the team and the coaches.

Redohio.

I Understand your point, But why did we bought Luis alberto, when Suso was ready for a go?
Why did we loaned Robinson, If we are going to bring another average player to cover Enrique?
thats almost 15 mill saved.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry the truth is Suso is not ready to step up that's why he was sent out on loan so that he could develop further as his first time opportunities will be cut short this season and what we need is him to get experience. Alberto was out on loan before he joined us and he was doing really well which is probably why we picked him up because there was belief that he was ready to make the step up with his already successful season under his belt. Robinson needs more time if you've seen him play you would know that and since we haven't even got an LB in yet your comments on a mediocre LB are unfounded as of yet let's see what's brought in first before you start slating them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Luis Alberto is a technically sound player with an eye for a pass. He will be a very good player for us when used.
Suso didn't have the impact I was expecting in the games he played for us last season. He has been loaned to gain experience and get playing time.
BR has sold/loaned players on high wages and replaced them with better quality players on much lower wages; Win win.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2013 10:36:40
Mushroom
Suso everytime was played on the Wings, and that's the problem when you play someone out of positions.
looka t mata, He is deadly behind the striker and pretty much average when he plays on wide right.
Ozil never plays on the wings. Ronaldo only played as on the left.
Suso should be the one to come off the bench to replace Countinho after 60-70 mts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post RDL

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry, Ronaldo has played left, right and as a lone striker for RM so your point is flawed. Mata has had just a good a game on the left as he has done in the centre. This is the point, good players can play in varying positions and still influence the game.
Suso needs game time and he will get far more of it on loan. Alberto can challenge for a starting 11 spot straight away.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry Scouser

Luis Alberto is more gifted and has an eye for a pass and can shoot and score. Suso`s not ready yet. I hope he does get it right because he has serious potential.

also roma and Liverpool have same group as owners FSG
am I right eds?
well speaking of which both clubs are also in the same state.
however roma have some smarts signings this summer.
lets hope lfc will too. {Ed002's Note - No, that is not correct.}

There is an investor in the FSG consortium who own LFC but separate from that investment he owns part of Roma, I think that's it Ed02 yeah? {Ed002's Note - James Pallotta is the main investor in a consortium that owns Roma and he is also a minor investor in FSG that own Liverpool. It means nothing.}

Decent amount of people whining about money and transfers again. Can people not just relax and give Rodgers at least until the transfer window is closed. Since January we've improved quite a lot and I firmly believe we will be willing to put money forward for suitable players. I honestly think we'll sign 3 more players yet, let's show some patience - remember the panic to try get Sneidjer in January and the club were patient and got their actual target at a price they wanted, they won't all work out as well as that but show some faith our recruiting has improved.

We have to assume there is money there, due to the failed Mkhitatean bid, but we need to see some quality come in sharpish. Is it just a case that we are stuck in a holding pattern due to LS and Madrid not showing their hand?

see eriksen has has told spurs he would be interested in joining them again! so I suppose we could rule him out?

He's said that about pretty much every team he's been linked with I wouldn't want him anyway he'd just be another Suarez in a year.

Eriksen has pimped himself through out Europe and NOBODY bid for him. We`ve had enough money-grabbers and BR does not want him because we have PC who I think is better.

Agree0 Disagree0

People talk about Dortmund like they are funded by a billionaire. Dortmund almost went bust and were minutes away from relegation. They changed their whole system to become self-solvent by investing in their youth and taking a chance on a manager who had just gotten his club relegated (YES, Klopp got FC Mainz relegated a couple of years prior). They struggled for a few years (one season, they came 13th) but kept the faith. Now look at them. To sustain success, youhave to have a plan, a structure and system. This is what the owners are trying to do with a young, innovative coach. Keep the faith and all will be fine. Red Till I`m Dead!

i agree with you Liverpool have to go a different way to the teams with the big money, but for me its going to be a lot harder to qualify for cl r win the premiership than it would be to rise up to the top 3 in germany. bayern r a top club but a lot of teams seem to be on the same level money wise pulling power maybe dortmound have pulled away a bit now after successful few years, but you just have to look at the prem city chelsea utd could get any player they want spurs look like they have a load of money the last few years, arsenal have cl everton have been above us 2 years now, if we don't sign the right players in the next 3 weeks this situation is going to get worse and we r going to have players too young to play the amount of games asked of them and even henderson, continho asked to play on the wings when its not their position r the defence all wrong as proper back up for left back cb were not brought in so for me a cb, lb, dm, winger please.C"mon the reds

Agree0 Disagree0

Redohio, I totally agree with you mate. And as much as I hate to use them as an example, Man U did the same thing. A lot of their fans were calling for Ferguson's head in the early days.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tommy, I see your point completely. However one has to walk before running. We can`t compete with them for now BUT that won`t last forever because they too will fail at some point. What we have to do is bridge the gap by being very efficient in EVERYTHING we do. That`s how you do it. EFFECIENCY AND CONSISTENCY is the key because the EPL is degrading in standard and this is the time to take advantage of that and strike.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2013 22:22:17
I really don't see the thing it is with fans.
the club is building
so we start with cutting the bill, getting rid of players we don't want and bringing in some others that can play. that 's it for this season.
we will finish 7th or 8th .
next season we will sign players that would strengthen the club.
next to next we will challenge champions league.
and 3 years down the lane we will challenge for all trophies wid a big stadium and squad.
BR and owners see it clear, so should we. they have a plan that will work because it always has for many teams round the world.

dortmund, barcelona, arsenal, marsielle . we r just taking a leaf out of the most successful formula for success. blossoming the youth.
or obvioulsy one needs huge bags of money.
i like the hard work way.
the club will never loose its charm ever (95k fans at down under). we are that sort of club.

What's people's thoughts on this "pact" with united not to sell Suarez and Rooney to try and curtail player power? Think it's bullhonky?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yep. It's "bullhonky"

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no pact what so ever. Both clubs are having similar issues at the same time and have responded in similar manor. That is it. No pact. What would a pact do anyway?

Andy K

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the story would need to sworn testimony of two high ranking officials just so to raise the credibility up to the level of bull.

Hi eds
Haven't posted for a while, but
i have 4 questions

1)Have we? or is there any team which has shown interest in Lyon's A. Lacazette, look a great young player with pace and versatility?

2)Do you think that we'll add a new CB before the transfer window closure?

2)Are we interested in any left winger(s), if so who is he/are they?

4)How many more players can you see coming in before the transfer window close?

Thx great work! {Ed002's Note - (1) No. (2) RTP. (3) RTP. (4) RTP.}

Now that downing is set to leave do you see us going back in for ince or dzsudszak?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hopefully neither.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers for your reply ed. But isn't this damaging suarez's and his agents reputation for potential buyers? Surely the prospective buyers are going to think "do we really want some1 that is lacking so much respect for his employers and so ill advised by his agent" {Ed002's Note - Right.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I see us going in for a pizza and a doughnut. Just RTP!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2013 21:25:35
Hi eds and reds. How much blame has suarez's agent got to take in this fiasco. Wouldn't or shouldn't he of advised him to keep schtum. {Ed002's Note - They are trying to force an exit. It is the manner they have chosen.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He seems to have cocked up over the clause in the contract and seems to be advising Suarez to get as much money out of the situation and for himself as he can.
If anything agents can be worse than players because he should be acting in his players best interests and that would be to shut his mouth to the press. He's embarrassing himself as much as the club. Plus also making him look even more like damaged goods, any club who is intrested will be thinking if he can act this way to Liverpool after all the support he got, then what will he do to us in the future?
He seems to be a rubbish agent, using his family name to get work.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not that I want to defend Suarez as I'd like to see him gone probably more than most, but to be fair to he and his agent (and I apologize for speaking about clauses in advance to the Eds), there is a bit of a case to be made there I think.

According to what I've seen, there is apparently a 'good faith' portion to that clause in his contract and to some extent one could make the claim that Liverpool aren't really entering negotiations in 'good faith' by rejecting the bid out of hand.

Unlikely to be a winner in a lawsuit as it's not exactly open and shut, but there is a bit of an air of fuzziness about the whole thing which is why I think there were some calls to make these sorts of things rather more clear/standardized in the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

It has to be clear cut however, lfc is not obligated to sell at that price. If Suarez wanted to leave, he could have gone about it the right way and even I would have shown sympathy for him and sad we should let him go for services rendered. He can`t and won`t do that because he`s interested only in his loyalty bonus which is why no TR has been submitted. He barked up the wrong tree and BR and Henry have called his bluff. I`d rather we play with 11 players committed to the cause and lose than continue to accommodate this piece of work of a person.

ok so one week to go the possitives are ;
4 new players in.
4 or so sold and we are in the black for 3.5 million
wages bill massive reduction.
we have loaned out a lot also.

Negatives
we have only bought one first eleven player (keeper)
the jury is still out on aspas and toure time will tell
i still think suarez will go and possibly agger too
we seem to be having serious trouble signing top players.
when we are loosing a match there does not seem to be a plan b .again with nobody signed could be a big mistake selling carrol just don't think borini is up to much.

overall view if brendan doesn't have some real talent
lined up we could be in trouble trying to blend a team together with average talent .we have had all summer to bring in some quality and with one week to go it is looking fruitless.come on fsg splash the cash after all this suarez nonsense give us something to cheer about.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I suspect if you're waiting for FSG to 'splash the cash' you may be waiting for a while.

Should note that I'm completely 100% fine with this- LFC needs to figure out how to live within it's means rather than relying on FSG to bail us out every year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Trust BR he's shown with coutiniho an sturridge he can pick a player.
and I think you're wrong about aspas he IMO is an improvement on downing and even more versatile

Agree0 Disagree0

BR can find good players and I`m not too bothered about the odd mistake. Like posted, we must leave within our means and get much better value for player that will improve the squad. The moaners and trolls should stop belly-aching and support the squad.

Hi guys, BR is saying he wants to move coutinho in to a central role and he wants to bring in a fast attacking left sided player to fill that gap. I think sterling and ibe will do exactly that this season, what are your thoughts eds and fellow posters?

Asianred {Ed030's Note - He obviously doesn't think there ready yet mate otherwise he wouldn't want a left sided player. }

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think - given that we have Ibe and Sterling as well as several others, he would probably be looking to bring in a loan player for a season to fill the position and give the others another year to mature. So who is a left sided forward player available for loan.

Hi eds:

It looks like Downing is on his way out.

I want to know if Liverpool has a recall clause for Suso? I like that this guy gets matches in Spain. But I fell that he could do quite well in EPL building on last season.

If Luis doesn't want to work for LFC, that's OK by me. If I don't want to work, my boss doesn't pay me as i'm not meeting the requirements of my contract. Its plain and simple and is enshrined in the wonderful laws of our country, a contract is a two way documment, binding to both parties.

If he doesn't work to the satisfaction of his employers, he doesn't get paid.simples! We save £1 mill in wages while he's banned anyway, so there's no rush.

Im sure FSG have their plans in place. He won't be able to work while he's under contract to us, he can sit at home if he wants but he won't get paid i'm sure

It seems we are just about to buy either Cissoko, Diego Contento or Siqueira depending on which paper or website you read
Any info on which one?
I think it will be Coentrao from RM as part of the Suarez deal {Ed030's Note - Siqueira is looking the most likely at the moment but things can change quickly. }

Hi Eds.

A question myself & a few others I know were wondering.

Why is it Assiadi never really got a chance in the PL?
He is a left sided attacker like we need atm, and looked decent when he played, so what's the deal with him?

Thanks {Ed030's Note - He's not really one for putting in a defensive shift mate,He looks good when he's doing his skills and his end product isn't great either,He's one of them players that look good when they have the ball but aren't the best without it. }

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Highly gifted, low work rate. {Ed030's Note - Exactly. }

Do u think we will be successful with a quality attacker and defender? Cheers mate great job {Ed030's Note - Sinclair maybe a good option he could add the pace to the team that Rodgers mentioned,There are other half decent players on the fringes however I don't see Liverpool going in for them. }

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No Sinclair is average. We need players of Suarez quality or calibre. {Ed030's Note - Unfortunately it's not easy to pay for and attract players of that quality,I bet you where one of the one's that doubted Coutinho before he signed,No matter if a players good or bad I will support them as long is they give everything they can. }

Agree0 Disagree0

How is Sinclair a good option? Is he any better than Sterling or Ibe? Sorry for being a }--- but I don't see how Sinclair would make Liverpool a top 4 team.

Is anyone else concerned about the way transfers going Suarez will go, who would blame Agger if he went. Downing, MS Reina all high earners off the pay role.We can not replace these players in such a short space of time.Liverpool supporter for 35 years I'm worried boys

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You're not the only one pal. Still a few days before the transfer window closes so (fingers crossed) Brendan & FSG can pull a rabbit out of the hat (though I'm not banking on it)

Agree0 Disagree0

Agger and suarez haven't gone anywhere yet, the other 3 played crap last season. What is there to replace?

Frankly I welcome anyone to leave if they are going to play poorly or show no commitment to the club. Our aim is to get into the champions league. However when we get there we will get trashed with our current squad.

Rogers is doing a great job of cutting loose the turd and bringing young hungry people to replace them.

Agree0 Disagree0

As a Liverpool supporter of over 40 years, I am not worried.
Good to get the high earners and under achievers off the books and get us onto a sound finance and not go bust
If Agger goes not good but not disaster as the options to replace are good as well and younger (Sahko, Papa, etc)
Plus I have never seen so many good kids coming through from the Academy

Agree0 Disagree0

I would not blame agger at all it would be bad timing but if the money was right for Liverpool then he should he allowed to go, don't want him to but that's my thought as long as money right, shake hands wish him the best hope to see him back one day even for visit, but like I say bad timing, not two stressed about reina, never liked downing but sad it never worked out for the lad as seems good lad, a good pro, but if he goes wish him the best and west ham get great deal for 5/6 m
Ynwa

Agree0 Disagree0

I am sure we will get at least 2 quality players and we are. Not in the. Europa league this season, so do we need a large squad? I just worry if sturridge and coutinho get injured don't havemuch faith in borini. Got to trust brendan though.

Ynwa

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not worried about wages I believe lfc will spend on wages for the right players downing not worth the money when ibe can offer as much on lower wages same with reina and mignolet. Think the club is getting more value for their money it's just sensible. If anything getting the wage structure balanced like this will allow lfc to bring in first team players on better contracts rather than wasting money on big wages for squad players. It might seem like we, 're being cheap but I think it is necessary for the club to move forward

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodgers and the owners are doing the best they can. They are still trying to undo and recover the damage done by Benitez, Hodgson, Dalglish and Comolli. Some of the signings made by the previous management were appaulling - think of Aquilani, Jovanovic, Joe Cole, Poulsen, Konchesky, Carroll, Downing, Adam. Some terrible signings there, be it value or quality or both.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree completely with Liverpres.

We need to be patient, because we have to pay for the sins and terrible errors of the recent past.

Hi, I recall seeing an answer saying that Rodgers was looking at a new midfielder as a replacement or back up for Lucas at DM. I hope this is true, Lucas is simply not good enough if we have aspirations to get into the top4, he is our biggest weakness and has to be replaced if we want to get into the top . Anyway I was just wondering if we have shown any interest in a DM and who you would personally like to see come in as our starting DM. cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When fit lucas is the best defensive midfielder in europe! breaks the play up, covers every blade of grass and retains posession better than all of our current squad!

Agree0 Disagree0

You obviously don't look at full matches, possibly a MOTD viewer who doesn't understand what he adds to the team. Or a troll

BR is looking for cover at most in the DM position as there is very few at the level of Lucas.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sorry but I personally disagree that Lucas isn't good enough, yes he may not be a huge physical presence but positionally he is superb. As much as I agree that cover for this position is something we could benefit from I don't think that is as big a priority as other positions such as CB, LB and LW. {Ed030's Note - When he wasn't in the team everyone realized how much we missed him,He's not a brilliant technical player however without him Liverpool don't look as good imo. {

Im really convinced FSG won't allow BR to bring any more players in unless we sell. i'm now having doubts if FSG are really in this for the success or the love of the club. The only way we can push on now is with a bit of quality in the team. can't wait for saturday.

I know there hasn't been much activity lately but hopefully a few players are beginning to arrive, whilst players we wanted sold are also moving.

If true looks like we are about to sign Siqueira for 5 million. Seems a solid player and performer and finally at 27 not potential, but finished article.

This would give us Siqueira, Johnson, Agger, Toure and Kelly. There's a possibility we will lose both Coates and Skrtle this window, and if so then the likely replacement will either Papadopulos or Alderweireld.

I would be happy with either of these signing as both seem top players and still young.

In midfield we have already sold Shelvey, Spearing and looks like Downing is next. We will also likely see Assiaidi leave and Suarez.

For me Eriksen and Capel would do me as replacements both represent value for money at their current fees and both have a lot of ability on the ball.

As replacement for Suarez I honestly couldn't think of anyone. Muriel gets mentioned a lot and seems a potentially good striker, but with the work permit issues it makes him unlikely.

Hey ed, just curious about what's behind BR's thinking regarding Suarez? I understand that he doesn't want to sell to a rival (arsenal), but why is he denying Suarez a move? He'll be losing out on £40+ million, wasting wages and Suarez must be effecting morale for the players and staff. Does he think that things will work out, or is he doing this to spite Suarez? Sorry, you must be asked this dozens of times a day, but anyway, thanks as per usual. {Ed002's Note - RTP.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He is only denying him a move "in theory", once a club from Europe who meets Suarez's criteria, and in turn the clubs price he will be off.

Henry, (and the man from Delmonte) he say no, but then basically infers the decision is down to Rodgers. Rodgers then says Luis can't, and won't train/play with the first team until he apologises . guess what, Suarez wants to leave so why would he apologise . and he won't!

So under "duress" the club will sell .

Agree0 Disagree0

But he's worth fifty mil plus which is another reason why were saying no.

Hello Eds,
most of you still reckon a bid from Real Madrid is till likely to come for Suarez and is most likely to be a player+cash deal. My question will they like to offer the Brazillian DM Caseimero + cash for Suarez?
I know he joined them recently on a perm deal.
He would be a quality addition at DM.
A deal of say 30-35M pounds + Caseimero would be great for LFC. {Ed002's Note - There is zero chance of that happening.}

I heard a rumour that we are not in the market for any other players this summer, Fsg did not back the manager with any kind of transfer kitty and told him he could only spend Money generated by sales.Fsg are not in it for the good of the club but to make money to spend on projects the other side of the pond.Suarez will go and that will fund the recent news paper acquisition. {Ed002's Note - Twitter was this?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

This could well be the dumbest rumour ever. Henry bought the newspaper with his money by himself, not FSG.

Although if you'd like to add to it, I heard Werner also bought a Snickers the other day for himself and LeBron James may be in the market for a new jet ski. Both Werner and James' purchases were funded partially by the sale of Spearing I hear.

im just going to throw this out here, reina, suarez, maybe agger, 3 class players is there something going on that the players know and we dont, like were not going to buy players of similar class, agger has the tatoo's on his fingers, why get them and then not want to stay with us, we are in credit with our transfers plus the money the owners was going to give BR, up untill the end of last season these players were saying they wanted to stay and win cups with Liverpool fc, spurs don't have C/L football but they have bought well by paying the money for the quality of the players they have bought,

i think we will get into the top 4 this season because of the manager changes in the clubs above us and with a bit of luck, but for the club to sit on the money and not spend would be a big mistake, again as with spurs all top players want to play in our league, I wonder who will score the most goals Soldado or Sturridge or Suarez, i'm not being doom and gloom i'm looking between the lines of why we have not bought anymore players even the ones we was interested in, well there's 3 weeks untill the window shuts let's see if we get a top signing

If so then I'd hope we at least tried to involve either Shaqiri or Sanchez into the deal. In Shaqiri we would get a very promising winger, and in Sanchez we would get a high calibure attacker who can play a number positions.

I know Sanchez is a long shot, but still worth showing an interest.

Anyone else not shocked to hear Agger wants to go? So rather than the investment required to push team to top four we're selling our better players. International players like Agger Reina Downing Skrtel is available so is anyone really.
Top four here we come.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wonder which site 'crunch' normally posts on? Everton? Man Utd?

Agree0 Disagree0

For a start, the wording of Agger's agent was misrepresented. He said nowhere in his statement that Agger wanted to go. What he said is that the club had rejected a bid from them. He then went on to say that "if" a time came when both clubs agreed a fee then they would have to consider their position. I really wish people would actually read these things properly and not just do as journo's do and put their own slant on the words. Now to you're other point about international players etc. These guys have been underperforming for a considerable amount of time. We have not reached top four with them under at least 3 managers. From what I recall 90% of fans wanted them gone last season or earlier in the summer. Now because there's only 3 weeks left of the window people are panicking. If it was 5mins before the deadline I could understand some of the doom and gloom. Roger's has said they are working on targets and I believe him. There are midweek friendlies and a lot of teams are not long back from tours. There was also cup competitions over the summer. Have a little more faith, a lot can happen in 3 weeks. We have more than enough to cover the few games between now and the end of the window. 2/3 quality additions will really enhance the team and that's only 1 a week between now and sep 2, so lighten up a little.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is exactly what his agent Per Steffenson said : “We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected, ” said Steffensen.

“Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change.”
and this is the headline : DANIEL AGGER'S future at Liverpool is uncertain after it emerged he is open-minded about a move to Barcelona.
Like I said, sensationalist and misrepresented, it's how they sell papers. People should'nt get so worked up by headlines without actually reading what is actually said. P.s It really does make for a calmer life lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm staying positive. Regardless of no signs of the players the squad requires coming and regardless that it seems FSG have not spent a penny. I'm routing for us.
Stay positive
Top four here we come

Agree0 Disagree0

Crunch, so when you say 'FSG have not spent a penny' we're disregarding everything prior to August 2013 then?

They've spent plenty of money on the club but at some point we need to stop living off of their wallets and start making our own money. Being 2nd in the league in losses for a 3rd year running is not a record we need to achieve.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2013 17:18:33
Seems to be a lot of talk that Real Madrid are looking to Suarez as the deal for Bale seems unlikely due to the fact that Madrid supposedly cannot pay the fee in one go.

Whilst I would prefer Suarez to go to Real Madrid I hope that we show the same strength as Tottenham and insist on all the money at once or no deal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd prefer Bale to still go to Madrid if possible, and if they are then skint Bayern to take Suarez.

This way we both lose a top player, but we would still have an outside chance to challenge Arsenal for fourth spot.

Ed’s
Regarding Suarez. We all know he is not going to Arsenal. However it’s most likely he is going to Madrid now that it looks like Bale isn’t going to happen. So my question for you is….Per JWH comments we aren’t selling Suarez because a replacement can’t be found so would think that Liverpool would request a player from Madrid in any sale? I know this has been discussed and Álvaro Morata was originally planned to try and sweeten the pot but he has since turned down the move. Who else does that leave from Madrid that would move to us from an attacking stand point?

Also if a player from Madrid can’t be found to include in the trade what other striking options are out that that are left for Liverpool to replace Suarez with?

If we don’t go for a striker I’m sure that the money would go to left side player yet that still might leave us short up top.

I would think that the sale of Skrtel and Coates would then go to fund another defender.

So where does the Suarez money go? Who else is available for the 20-25k mark? {Ed002's Note - It was Callejon not Morata, but all of this has pretty much been done to death already.}

Think this was touched on in an earlier debate.
My two pennies worth is would you guys rather have a team like Madrid who in the past have went out and bought a team of galacticos and hoped to win things and not won as much as they should have in the last few years.
Or would you rather have a team like Dortmund or Baraca who spent a no of years developing their youth and developing a team ethos.
I am not saying Liverpool are anywhere near Dortmund or Barca but we don't have money to throw around on premadonnas.
If BR is given time we will return to our former glories and then we can look at adding a star player every season.
Remember Rome wasn't built in a day and after all Shankly and Paisley didn't always by stars they bought rough diamonds who became stars.
Thoughts?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Annoying part for me is Dortmund keep buying all the players I want to see us going for (yes, I know they weren't all possible or even under consideration and perhaps not even realistic, but they are clever buys)- Reus, then Aubameyang, then Mkhitaryan.

Rather spend like Barca and Dortmund and play CL football each season like them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We must have lost an absolute shed load off the wage bill over the last 18 months, which I have to say I am absolutely delighted about. Yes, we should pay top players top whack, but what we don't need is squad players - and a huge amount of them - on top players wages. The likes of Degen, El Zhar, Cole, and countless others were eating into the wage bill. I am aware that it cost the club to remove the players, but it was necessary. Brendan Rodgers - ". And once we get the right kind of quality to put on the sides, he [Coutinho] will play in that central role. That is where he affects the game best".

This quote suggests that Rodgers has acknowledged that we do not currently have the players within the squad to play in the wide positions and that we are looking to purchase two players to fill these positions.

It is about time we started looking to add width to the squad. We have been crying out for wingers for a long time. We need wingers who are comfortable on the ball, who can make a pass and score goals. My preference would be Antoine Griezmann (22) who scored 10 goals and assisted 5 in the league last season for Real Sociedad and Eduardo Salvio (23) who [last season] scored 10 and assisted 9 in the league for Benfica.
When Downing and Assaidi leave we have will have two players in Sterling and Ibe who will provide competition and cover for the the wingers.

I would also like to bring in 22 year old striker Lorenzo Insigne of Napoli possibly in exchange for Skrtel.

I would like to know which wingers you would prefer and why.

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Comforting I guess, though I'd really have to question the knowledge of someone who didn't believe Coutinho isn't a perfect #10 for us. The problem you have pointed out I agree with completely and have also seen a lack in that department for a few years. Our wide play is average and our backs going forward are unreliable and mostly unproductive. Sterling and Ibe haven't built enough experience imo to warrant that responsibility all season. They are very quick, but their decision making needs to increase and that comes with time. Downing had a great work ethic and fight, but made little impact. We do need wide players that chip in with goals badly. I'm sure BR and staff have seen this and why Downing's off. Would prefer Costa if I could choose from those we've shown interest in. A strong and attack minded wide player that will give us another dimension and option going forward. He'd bring more height as well for set plays and long crosses. He's got the technical ability to fit in our style perfectly. I hope we push the envelope a bit further and get him, I think he'll be huge for us.

If we get all the players YOU want, how are we going to fit in all the other players that other LFC fans want?

We should go all out and get Sanchez

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thats what I've been saying for ages, we need a world class winger who can play across the front 3/4 and he along Shaqiri, Turan, Muriel, Muniain all fit the bill and would cost no more than £25M. We need quality players now, Sanchez & Muriel with Coutinho in the middle behind Sturridge would be excellent.

Agree0 Disagree0

So do you think Sanchez would mind not playing in the CL?

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know. But playing for Liverpool has got to be better than sitting on the bench at any club. We can pay his fee and pay his wages no problem. Barca want rid, we need that kind of player, 24 year old, makes sense to me? Better than Costa all day

Agree0 Disagree0

Least he will be playing, not sitting on the bench at Barca.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sanchez would cost Liverpool a huge amount .His salary would be massive, the extra costs add ons etc could take his real price way above that.

He is a good player but has had question marks over his form .We should not go all out and blow the budget on one player, we should use what we have to cover the multiple positions we need to strengthen.

I understand the wish for a marque signing, but a south american who needs champions league football. sound familliar?

Everyone needs to chill out! I think the club are doing great at getting rid of our crappy high earners. Carroll skrtle downing were all on over 80k a week, thanks to comoli!
Wouldn't u rather have much better players then them who are younger and on lower wages? because that's what the club are doing. U can see aspas in already a step up from downing and on half the wages. Everyone was crying to sell shelvey downing reina skrtle last season, because u can tell on the field there just not good enough anymore and most of them pushing 29/30! Be patient we will sign quality soon!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Comolli and Kenny really did a "fantastic" job.
Downing, Sktl and Carroll on a quarter of a million pounds per week combined?

And that's not even considering the old wreck of Joe Cole from the previous regime.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kenny didn't sign Skrtel.

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtle was player of the yr under Kenny, He was one of the best Centre Backs in Europe.Brendan came in and tried changing the way he played. Rodgers doesn't want him now and he will be moved on, probably on the cheap.
I think Brendan's major fault is he says to much, "Martin doesn't have leadership, or organisation skills, " was a quote not needed and absolutely buried M S.And it tells other clubs that they can get this player on the cheap, because the manager's not playing him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Martin Skrtle is a fine CB, but does not have the ability to play in the BR system. Cast your mind back to Man City at home at the start of last year. Cost us 2 points there. He was given nearly 20 games in the system and just couldn't cut it. As a conventional CB he is one of the best around and deserves to play week in week out but just not with LFC. Think of it a a square peg in a round hole. He's worth 10-12 Million and we need to move him on. 60K a week and not starting is a lot of cash tied up. Prefer to keep blooding Wisdom for a year or 2 that keep Martin as it stands right now

Is anyone watching the u21s? Southampton is looking lively. Scott Sinclair's younger brother has looked brilliant for Southampton. For us, Rossiter does not seem out of place in u21. Bijev and Dunn have looked quite decent as well.

Yeah mate. Absolutely comic defending though.
We're playing with our U18s and I was hoping to see Teixeira, Mclaughlin, Baio etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Final was 4-3 Southampton. Looked like we had a couple more goals in us but the defending was very poor. Felt bad for Mersin in goal because he made few fine saves but got let down by his back four more than once. Jones almost chippe in with a goal as well, was surprised to see him in such a position to score!

"Consistency" this will be a major factor in determining where will we finish this season. People can argue as much as they like about our squad not being on par with the likes of chelsea, mancity, united, spurs, arsenal and to a certain extent I agree with that, but the league consists of 13 other teams as well, that's 78 points. I'm not saying we will win them all, what i'm trying to say is if we have players who believe in each other and give their all for the sake of the team and put performances that they are capable of on a consistent level then we can achieve anything. Just look at united, they don't have world class individuals for every position, some of them are average at best but what they have is that belief in themselves as well as their teammates, that's why they are so successful. It was the same with us while we were on top. I just want to see Liverpool becoming a major force again.
I know every Liverpool fans are hurtin when we are not mentioned as title contenders, when we are not on that champions league draw, when top players are not linked to us but that's part of life. So in times like these rather than having a go at each other, slagging off players before playing a single game of a season is not the way forward. We have to stick together and believe in our team so that they can believe in themselves and give their all. We fans had two choices at half time on that night at Istanbul, we made the right choice and we all know what happened next. I hope this season we make the right choices.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Couldn't agree more. We need a Champion Team, not a team full of champions. That is what we are aiming for. I think people will also be surprised how we fair against city, united, Chelsea etc. We need the right players, not necessarily the most expensive ones.

Do you think Siqueira (or other LB) is being brought in, not as cover, but so that Enrique can play further up the field thereby removing the need to bring in winger? Especially as we seem to finding it difficult to find/attract the player we want.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No, I think Enrique has to be replaced in the 1st team and used primarily as back up to better and more consistent left back .

If we can sign a 1st choice left back this summer we will be in much better shape defensively I reckon .

Also we are trying to sign a left sided attacker to push Countinho into the centre full time .

Agree0 Disagree0

We have better players on the wing than Enrique, the young guys need a chance

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we aren't pushing Enrique higher tbh. His head is glued to the ball and reminds me of juggernaut going forward. Lacks the vision and crossing ability of a needed wide player. Not the type of winger or ideally the type of LB we need in the long run. Not a slate entirely, he's very strong and does a good job for us. He does need competition though as a minimum to get the best out of that position for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Juggernaut is the perfect word for Enrique. He doesn't quite know what he's going to do with the ball, but in the meantime he will try to run like a train through the opposition.

So now downings gone who's down for starting Ibe RW againts stoke? I think he's better than sterling and wouldn't get bullied as much. It won't happen tho, coutinho sturridge aspas front 3 with gerrard Lucas an Allan in mid for stoke. Hopefully we get some top players in befor the villa match!
Excited to see who the left sided player is Rodgers wants because we no we have money. Still baffling me why we didn't move for Bernard that's his best position and would have played every match, plus he's got friends here in lucas an coutinho!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The only person who should be disappointed with Downings exit is Downing. He hasn't lived upto billing but I do think he is above average and would flourish once more in claret and blue. He'll get into double figure if he moves and if he doesn't go then he will be another expensive bench warmer as we have a least four players who could come in and do a better job than Downing= #Sterling #Ibe #Coutinio #Alberto. IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I think Sterling & Ibe will be rotated on the left wing, Coutinho will play behind Sturridge which leaves us desperately needing a RW but we need quality not more squad players.

Saw a post not too far down about Sakho being a good option. I couldn't agree more. Papadopoulos is a great player, but he has just returned from a serious injury and he is very rash/hot headed. Sakho on the other hand, is fast, agressive (in the right way), and very technically sound defensively.

A lot of people seem to think that were Sakho to partner Agger, our defence would lack balance as they are both left footed. I emplore you to look at a few great partnerships; Vidic and Rio (both right), Carragher and Hyypia (both right), Terry and Carvalho (both right). The problem we have faced recently when playing Agger and Skrtel is that Agger is horribly one footed (left) and Skrtel is exactly the same (right). Therefore, when somebody ran in between them, they were both tackling with their horribly weaker side, and were clumsy or weak in the challenge. Agger is too good at bringing the ball forward to sacrifice from our system. He's also a good leader and a fairly fast defender. However Skrtel is expendable. Sakho is very solid with both feet despite preferring his left. Therefore he could easily play alongside Agger. Preferably with Agger in the left sided position. I really like Sakho. He is built like Micah richards with the brain and aggresive side of a Carragher like player. Even a loan to buy deal would be great. Agger is injury prone and Toure is getting on so they will need a young and capable player who can rotate with them. Sakho could be that man.

Here's to hoping!

Any chance of lingering interest in Dzuduszak or Ince Eds? Rodgers wants a left sided forward, and we were after both at some point in January. {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware right now Adam.}

Hello Eds I don't know why we are looking for another left side forward player when we have Aspas, Sturridge, Suarez as are front 3! And Sterling Borini, Ibe in reserve? Surely it must mean one is about to leave! The only 2 players worth bidding for IMO is Muriel &
Konoplyank! Can you please post this as I have been asking for around 2 weeks Cheers lads PDLFC

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Oh come on
Do we really want to pin our top 4 hopes on Sterling, Ibe and Borini. Beacuse Sturridge is quite injury prone and Suarez is as prone to a ban as a person is to mosquito bite.

We most definately need a top notch LW (Costa or Konoplyanka) and a quality Suarez replacement (Yilamz or Muriel) as I am pretty sure he will be sold as soon as we get a bid of around 45M from a non-PL side.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely it means one is about to leave?

Where have you been all summer?

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez is banned for the first 6 games & 100% commitment from him is more than questionable. Aspas is new to the league & can't be relied upon to provide the majority of our goals. Borini & Sturridge are very much injury prone and Ibe & Sterling are still gradually being brought into the squad.

Ed's and fellow Reds, I have to say for the first time in a few years I really am Very Very optimistic about the upcoming season. We have a really good manager with a great mindset on how to play the beautiful game with a philosophy based on attacking football. We also now have a really good squad with plenty of options at the top of the pitch. Hopefully with the signing of a couple of more influential players in the next few weeks we can make a real go of pushing for the top 4 this season and who knows maybe even a little further up too. I really think we should push a little harder to sign Diego Costa or try and get Erikson and get another center back.

C'mon LFC, let's make this season count and get amongst the big boys once again.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2013 12:56:36
i do not understand why we don't buy a cb before the league starts.
if we don't get top 4 this season we will be trouble, players will leave and getting players will be hard.
we need a good start, I think losing points in the beginning could haunt us all season.
skrtl/quates are not in br plans and need to be replaced with at least 1 cb.
and I would buy eriksen I have watched him several times he can play coutinho role cutting in from the left.
eriksen is a great player and only 21.
lucas/gerrard/eriksen/coutinho that's a world class midfield all 4 are good on the ball.backed by allen/hendersen.
games are won in midfield.
its up to fsg to spend more money than we proberly have but if we keep hold of suarez and keep sturridge fit we will score goals.
eriksen 1 cb and left back and we can beat anyone.
even away from home on the counter we will hurt teams we have some real pace with sturridge/ibe/sterling.

And despite how Honda has agreed to join AC Milan in Jan, is Spatak still able to sell him to other clubs this summer? Just curious about the possibility.

About centre back, any news on Sakho?

Lastly, since we won't let Suarez go unless we have a replacement, is there a chance of perhaps Benzema/Suarez swap or Ibra/Suarez swap?

Cheers! {Ed002's Note - (1) No. (2) Spartak cannot sell a player without the player agreeing. (3) No. (4) I would doubt there is even the slightest chance.}

I'm a little surprised at the latest Downing story. He seems to have improved lately, still a bit erratic but more solid than he used to be. But to lose 13 million to get rid of him would only make sense (to me at least) if we have someone lined up who could step into his place.
Don't get me wrong, I never rated him, but it's a massive loss to take. Perhaps it's to get his wages off the books.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree completely. That is quite a loss to take and Downing was perfectly willing to fight for his place. Surely there is a replacement lined up, or else Downing would still be on the books.

Agree0 Disagree0

I will also be willing to fight for my place if I am wolfing down 80K per week.
Sure, pay me 10K per week before taxes and I will injure and destroy all competitors!
Being willing to fight for your place means square root of zero point zero.

Finding it hard to understand how we have played most of our Pre-season friendlies with downing as part of what looked like our starting eleven for him to now be sold. Surely he must have been part of Brendan's plans even as a squad player to have been used so much. I think there must be an incoming transfer imminent, an attacking player with pace/flair? Hopefully. Really happy with the summers transfers so far!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are doing the same as we did last year, we let Bellamy, Kuyt & Maxi all go and never replaced there goals which meant we lost roughly 30 - 35 goals, This year we have let Carroll, Shelvey, Spearing & Downing go with Skrtel, Suarez & possibly Agger potentially leaving we have lost nearly 40 goals from those players and look like were guna be relying on the kids once again instead of buying proven world class players.

We all knew what area of the team that needed strengthening in my view was a LB, 2 CB'S, CDM, LW, RW, CF, we have added to the squad already but are squad was fairly thin and we have signed 4 players but let go of 6 players so far which makes our squad even thinner that last year, we all know Suarez is as good as gone regardless of what Rodgers & Henry are saying, he will go abroad, so we need 3 world class players in my view to challenge the top 4 as Spurs have brought very well, Arsenal always seem to do well and we can forget the top 3 at the moment as were not good enough.

LB = looks like Guilherme Siqueira
2 CB'S = Possibly Papa we already brought Toure
CDM = Really don't know who.
LW = Sanchez, Muriel, Turan or Muniain
RW = i'd go for Tom Ince as a replacement for Downing
CAM/CF = Eriksen, Ozil or Costa

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Very true although maybe not so many more attacking options. I feel Sakho at CB top 15 million, splash out on Ganso as a Gerrard replacement and another winger I would love Muniain as well, he destroyed United in the Europa League a few years ago and would not break the bank! Or another Brazilian Bernard.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was nodding-off reading that

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2013 13:14:08
2 CB'S = Papa won't be coming since the asking price is more than 15 mil ans skertel has gone on loan

CDM = Not a high Priority right now.

LW = We don't have interest in none you mentioned.

RW = Tom Ince is a possibilty, But we would need a much bigger player, Fingers crossed on this one.

CAM/CF = We have Countinho and alberto to play there and if necessary gerrard also can play.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your argument is flawed, as scoring goals wasn't really our problem last year. You say we sold maxi, kuyt and Bellamy, and never replaced their goals - how come we scored more goals last season than the previous? If we had a stronger defence we would have fared better last season - goals weren't really our problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

No disrespect mate but 30-35 goals between kuyt, maxi & bellamy, really? and your list for people we have let go so far this year - carroll (on loan at west ham all year), shelvey (couldnt get a game), spearing (out on loan at bolton all season). I struggle to see who's goals we are missing out on there?

i am also staggered to see people complaining that downing is being let go now.

it really does seem that rodgers can do no right by some people.

3 weeks left to sign people is a very long time, relax and see how things pan out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really don't need Ince.
When Suarez goes it will be for atleast 40M pounds and that should be enough to buy 2 real quality attackers in Muriel and Sanchez/Konoplyanka. Really hoping we don't go for the cheapest targets.
While the money from Skrtel, Coates and Downing should be enough to buy Papadopoulos or Sakho.
While we would just have to fork out cash for the Granada LB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lost 30-35 goals? We ended last season with 71 goals, the highest tally since the 08/09 season where we finished second. Get your facts straight before making such a negative post.

Agree0 Disagree0

Out: Assaidi Downing Borini Coates Skrtel

Ins:
DM CB: Papa 16m

Sorry to hear Downing going for a medical at West Ham. Think he did really well at the back end of last season.

£5M I think that he is worth more to our squad than that. Good experience and while not a brilliant player can do the job he is asked and is disciplined covering for Glen at the back. and above all a good attitude.

This is the sort of player that would be good to have on the bench. I know his wages are high, but surely that could have been negotiated.

Wish him all the best if he leaves.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it's best for all partys to be honest mate.
He wants to be playing regular and he's not going to get that at Liverpool this season and like you say his wages are too high to not play him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Downing's performance against Celtic was typical.

He huffed and puffed to no effect, gave the ball away for their goal, and eventually disappeared from the game.

The 5m we got for him tells you exactly what the football world thinks of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - We don't discuss that subject.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Would you be willing to take a 50% pay cut at work? Because £80k a week is the reason he will be gone, I'd imagine Rodgers would like him on the bench but that's £4m a year in wages and £5-6m in a transfer fee.

Also this great attitude of his - where was it until he was told look for a new club last November? He never busted a gut until then he started to try so hard but then think why wasn't he trying this hard all along. People like that don't deserve to be at the club either, took us for granted.

An example for you is Borini - will he make the grade or won't he nobody can say 100% for sure yet but my god the lad is giving it everything from day one so he's got my backing I hope he does cut it (hope rather than expect).

Eds with downing having a medical at west ham today, what was the point of giving him so much game time on Saturday. Starting to concern me now about the lack of depth in our squad. It's all well and good having these good youngsters but we need some experienced signings pretty soon . It all kicks off in 6 days time and I am less optimistic now than I was a few weeks ago {Ed001's Note - it's a friendly, you play those you want rid of in friendlies to entice offers.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2013 10:29:51
Just like to get as many opinions as possible, Ed's and other posters, if we bite the bullet and sell Suarez, who do you realistically think we could sign as a replacement for him? A proven world class goal scorer?

I thought Soldado was the best option until he went to Spurs, now most top quality strikers have moved and would want Champions League football anyway.

The only remaining one I can think of but feel we have no chance of signing is Jackson Martinez. Diego Costa doesn't seem the answer (whether there was a bid or not) as he only scored 10 goals in La Liga last season. Even Bony could have been a good shout until Swansea signed him.

Starting to worry we will sell let for a high fee and be left in the same situation as last summer with a thin squad.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2013 11:08:16
Gonna be really intersting. We need 4 players very bad. LB, CB and two Wingers.
Do we have money?. Not to pull some pretty good players in.Downing went for 5mill. there ain't any single quality winger availble at 5 mill?. skertel is going for a loan, So how can we repalce him with a 15 mill Papa?
Suarez should be sold ASAP to fund all these moves.and we are witing for his TR from ages.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry to say, but "realistic for us" and "proven world class" just doesn't mix these days. What we need to do is go for the younger alternatives that look the part. More risk, less outlay on transfer and salaries, but could turn out golden. This has been the Liverpool way in the glory days and is surely the way forward from here. Morata or Rodrigo for me, although not very realistic either.

The other alternative is to get more established players that are at clubs where they won't get as much game time, especially important in a World Cup year. Matri being the prime example.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yilmaz would be a good option.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd trigger Jackson Martinez release clause (40m) I think. Worth every penny in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

Highly unlikely that we will sign a big name striker if suarez goes.

sturridge is out no1 choice and would be if suarez stays as I think he will be played out wide.

i am guessing that we would sign someone similar to diego costa who we can play out wide or up front in sturridge's absence.

Would be a great adition. would cost somehwere at 12-15 mill {Ed002's Note - I suspect it is an old story being recycled, but Liverpool showed interest in Dzsudzsak whilst at PSV and again in January when the club enquired after a loan. More recently Inter, Schalke and Parma have shown an interest. It would certainly not be out of the question but I am not aware of any interest from Liverpool right now.}

Fellow reds, it seems to me this is all getting a bit heated concerning Sewerez the club believe they are acting correctly so let's give them the benefit, after all the PFA said they couldn't help and that's pretty damning on him. There will be other signings not high profile but hey we can't afford that anymore and as much as I'd like to win the league top six and a good cup run is all we will manage. A work in progress it took shankley years to get where he wanted it will take us years to get over all the crap of the last ten years( poor signings, bad management and high wage bills) Support our team for who they are Liverpool football club. Have faith the Liver Bird will rise again, just not this year.

Horse3105.
Good and honest post, But we need CL pretty soon mate. we can't simply wait for another 3-4 years of this progressing and Transition. The reason being we have been spending pretty high, we are in Debt, and the farther we are from CL, very difficult to keep our star players and attract new ones.
90% our buys have been either awful or Unwanted.

Luis alberto is a pretty good player and 100% upgrade on Sheklvey, But did we really needed him?
what was shelvey offering us anyways?. he wasnt starting any single match. so why did we replace bench warmer with another one?

we should first fix the position we need in the starting 11.

we haven't done that till now. we need two wingers badly regardless of suarez, and we are buying midfielders and replacing.

Really hope we are in for Sakho, he has the aggression we lack in defense at the moment. Great signing if it happens, one can only hope.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, an excellent player and with Papadapoulos priced at close to £18 million with dodgy knees, Sakho would be fantastic signing if we could get him.

I completely agree, he can also play LB if a more defensive one is needed.
I don't know whether it's realistic or not but I would certainly try if available.

Bid accepted for Stewart Downing from West Ham. He tried his best, but could never live up to that sort of price. West Ham is obviously the located for failed, overpriced Liverpool players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Downing tried his best but he is a confidence player and at LFC, he never was able to fully trust in himself to give his best. Good luck to him if he goes.

If you look from a business point of view of from an owners point of view. Suarez is their trump card.
regardless of suaerz, we need a LB and LW top quality, Fingers crossed whom are we targetting?

Agree0 Disagree0

If the logic baffles you then maybe you shouldn't look at transfers mate. Carroll and Downing were never worth their original price, so as such were offered at a reduced price which LFC deemed acceptable. Suarez has proven his ability surpasses the original amount we bought him for, and Liverpool obviously feel selling our top scorer to another PL team at around £40m would be more damaging than beneficial. Simple really.

We're looking at the fact everyone else seems to value Suarez at the same as Rooney, who is a terrible striker these days. Now, Bale had a certain impact for Tottenham I. The last two seasons, an impact that has led to him being valued at 75m or above. Everyone can see that Suarez is just as good a dribbler as Bale, maybe not as fast but has more tricks up his sleeve than raw pace and doesn't shoot from ridiculous places. So why should we accept such a farcical amount as nearly half of Bale? Suarez does come with twice the baggage and so there has to be some discrepancy, so perhaps 50m would suffice. Liverpool however understand that in a World Cup season Suarez simply cannot afford not to play and therefore he needs to realise that the club are in command this year and that he will probably be sold next year, when prices are always even more inflated due to the World Cup fever.

There, my friend, is a lesson in management. Suarez is as good as Bale, has 3 years on his contract and wants to be playing to ensure his place at next years World Cup. We therefore have him by the balls, as we can hold out for another year before his value starts depreciating due to his contract length.

Well the difference is u don't sell your best players on the cheap, or to a major rival but u get what u can for the dalglish bad signings. love kd but everyone has to accept they're not up to the aspirations of the fans . maybe we should not be expecting a great year . just try and build . its a hard job rodgers has with all us fans expecting great things. if u remember houllier bought diao diouf cheyrou cisse and we suffered . now its quite similar. rodgers has 2 difficult tasks at the same time . he has to get rid of the dead wood whilst trying to recruit quality ( with no europe)n not be sold down the river with prices. think we need to cut the man some slack and not expect so much. with all the suarez crap aswell it must not be easy . its a worry that we are now looking very thin on areas and that was a major pre season with travelling all over the world . just hope like all the fans we are able to get some quality in .i for one would be happy if he's giving time to build the right team without fans jumpimg all over him on bad results( let's face it we will lose games fans think we should win ). the likes of swansea southampton are all improving . he's getting rid of the players who aren't up to it and he's trying to get players in . he's not paul daniels and it will take time . more than what the average fan will give

well done to west ham

i might be the only one here. but I still think downing is a good player. and should be kept in the squad

yes he doesn't score enough goals. but he is fast and he puts balls in the box. its not his fault that our team is notorious for not having enough players in the box. I remember dirk kuyt being the only one doing that with torres. babel didn't do it either.

none of our wingers score goals. maybe 1 or 2. so if that's the case. why let him go when its clear we hardly have any players.

ive no idea what's going on with this club. the quality has DILUTED and just look. we got people like alberto and aspas representing Liverpool. its a joke they ain't good enough

12 Aug 2013 09:15:29
Hai Ed I need your views on this.
Its pretty sure that Gerrard would play as CM for us in coming years and Hendo would be a pretty good cover for him in that area.
Were you really happy with Allen"s Purchase?
A DLP which we aren't playing at?.
If gerrard and Lucas sit in the Middle, and if we have 3 outstainding players in front of them . (ACM. LW and RW). where you honeslty play DLP? {Ed001's Note - I wasn't happy with his purchase, no. I do think we paid too much for him, but I do think he offers something we didn't have, another option. On his day, he is very good at what he does, just not sure we needed him, and feel the money could have been better spent elsewhere. Mind, if Henderson hadn't stepped up his game, then we would have been in need of central midfielders.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2013 10:42:03
Thank You Ed01, I too wasnt convinced either when we bough him for 18 mill including the signing on fees. We only need a DLP when we free up gerrard further up as an ACM.
We have countinho whose brilliant in that role. we also have Hendo who could compete with Gerrard for the CM spot.
what we need was and is two top quality Wingers.
If we would ahve bought them last summer instead of Borini and allen, we would have been in CL now.
We saw the lack of options against celtic, when BR decided to Put Hendo as wide left.
We have 3 weeks left and we need atleast two wingers {Ed001's Note - we didn't have Coutinho when he was bought, and no one could have known he would have such an impact. Nor that Gerrard would grow into his new role so brilliantly or that Henderson would raise his game significantly. Rodgers was hedging his bets, in my opinion, making sure he had at least one player there who knew his system. It is a mistake in hindsight, because he faded badly and suffered an injury, plus others raised their games. Trouble is you don't have hindsight available at the time you buy a player.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hello Ed,
a couple of questions
1) Are we interested in Mascherano and are Barca willing to sell?
I reckon many people hate him because of the way he went but if given the chance I would have him back. He is exactly what we are lacking in Midfield. Some of our fans overrate Lucas a lot. He just isn't a great DM.

2) Any news on the Suarez front?
I mean any offers recieved or expected from outside PL?
I reckon he could be adequately replaced by the money from his sale but we just need to get it done quickly. {Ed001's Note - Mash is available, I don't know of any interest from us and I would hope we wouldn't want another brat at the club. Another whining little child to go on strike and throw his toys out of his pram when he doesn't get his way, no thanks. Plus he is not what we are lacking at all, he is excellent, but he is too hot headed, too rash, too often caught out of position and too greedy for money. That is why he is struggling to displace Busquets, he is simply not as good as he seems watching on TV when he is racing back to fill the gap he left open in the first place.
And nothing new on Suarez at the moment.}

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2013 12:13:07
Ed01, yes, A transfer is always a gamble,
But You must play them at their actual position where they have been playing for years.
henderson is CM played wide right, wide left and very few times he actually plays where should.
How is this acceptable. we shouldn't look at the names, rather look at the position.
If we are short of LW, then we should buy one, rather pushing someone to fill that position temporarily.
If we bought Allen as a DLP, we should play him in that position, And if he failed then should be benched. simplae as that.
Sturridge CF, he should be played there.
Countinho No.10 ACM, plss play there.
Now left with LW. we litreally don't have one, we should then buy one instead expirmenting a no of players to play there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im pleased with the praise for Gerrard there Ed001, I know you had been slightly critical of him in recent years. he struggled a little early on under Rodgers thinking he had to keep everything short but as the season progressed and in particular the signing of Sturridge allowed some of the more expansive passes and overall a more balanced game. He also chooses his runs from midfield better.

personally Henderson is developing well and offers more than Allen in the 3. He is strong, great engine, added goals and can pass. That is not to be critical of Allen who can play an important role. Personally I don't think an additional defensive midfielder is required until we return to Europe. An additional attacking midfielder would be nice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed001. Many thanks for the insights/views into players. You boys are obviously involved in the game and it’s an absolute pleasure to get opinions from those with a tad more knowledge than us regular guys who sit behind a desk and push paper, albeit still dreaming that at pushing 40, we can still pull on the red jersey – perhaps BR is short one day, looks up in the crowd and spots one of 40,000 fat, balding blokes wearing an LFC shirt, and thinks he might be able to “do a job”. Well, we can all cling on. It is great when you Liverpool Eds spend the time to give us your genuine views on our players. I for one get as much pleasure out of that as reading the rumours. I'm with Aspas and Andy K on this. And yes Harry we overpaid for Downing but no more than £4m too much at the time - not all transfers work out. He was worth around £16m we paid £20m and he never played as well for us as he did for Villa.

Downing didn't live up to expectation. At his wages, leaving is the best option for the club. The fact that he is also getting a 4 yr deal also makes it a good option for him.
. Dalglish and Commoli.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry, he was their player of the season. He had been pretty good the season before that but the season just as we signed him he was on fire and yes I would 100% say he was worth around £16m at that time - he was in and around the England team for a while, he was at a good age and he had proven himself for 2 years in a row looking fantastic the season before we got him.

If he had brought his Villa form to us we would have been very lucky to have him.

What would you think he was worth at the time? Anyone else with opinion's on his valuation when we bought him?

What a joke.
BR wants an appology from a player who doesn't wanna play for us.
How on earth is that possible.
Liverpool FC the best club still waiting for suarez TR to save 2 mill?.
Nonsesne, we would still reject his TR,
If suarez leaves due to non CL, No top class players would come to us, if they have options.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally, I would rather face any consequence than let Suarez get his way.

I hope John W. Henry sticks to his word. If Suarez won't apologise, let him train on his own and don't even give him reserve games. Let him squirm in a World Cup year - yes, that is the one big plus in our favour.

I'd rather we play the season with the lads we have, the ones who want to play for the red shirt. If we can afford another one or two without any Suarez fee, so much the better. But if not, let's go with what we've got.

Whatever happens, we must NOT let Suarez get his way and treat this club like a piece if dog dirt. In 12 months time we can still sell him and recoup at least what we paid for him and, more importantly, our heads will be held high we will have made a stand for football in general. Liverpool already have a lot of worldwide respect and I'm sure they would gain a lot more if they took this stance.

How can we sell to Arsenal if we have any ambition? And if there have been no other bids, then Suarez can sulk and whine as much as he likes - he will have to be kept away from the rest of the squad until he comes back with his tail between his legs.

I fully support the stance of Henry and BR - they can do nothing more than they are doing, until somebody from abroad comes in for him, probably with the offer of a replacement in return.

Agree0 Disagree0

You need to start using that little thing on the top of your body, however little that may be. You were the one coming out and slagging LFC, BR and us supporters for wanting Suarez out. Now you have turned again. Seriously, have you considered a profession as a Gyroscope?

Agree0 Disagree0

We have to hope that foreign clubs will come in with decent offers of circa £40m. Alternatively if we had to sell to Arsenal I'd want £50m or the same to Spurs as their seasons affect our target of competing for 4th.

Redmersey, pay Suarez a year's wages for doing nothing and then sell him for almost £20m less than we have been offered already this summer - your idea is one of the worst sorry we cannot afford to do something like that.

Mate As a plyer I simply adore suarez, He is little genius, But the reality is he doesn't wanna be with Liverpool, Which is fine, (Its an individual decision where he wants to be, and it can change at any moment.)

I wonder We go out for shopping and we end up buying something which we never thought of buying. Our mind is pretty hard to control It can change any moment.
Today you see Benz, and tom you like another one.

So what's the options left, Negotiate with a good deal and get the money which we need very bad to Fix other position.
Or stick him in the reserves and act like a king and get ripped on the pitch against quality opostion and moan like a child end of the season when we don't attain CL.
Luis suarez with or without game time would represent Uruguay, since he is the leading goal scorer over there.

Luis suarez want to move out, he said that crystal clear, and he would give us a healthy profit, even we sell it with a TR or not.

Club is bigger than any player, But who makes the club the best in the world?. Its the players.
Where was City, Untill they bought all the superstars? where was cheslea, untill they bought execptional players.

Yours seems personal Grudge against Suarez, which is actually stuppid than suarez himself, There is absolutly no use of keeping him and sticking him in reserves.

Do we let this matter fester knowing that his absence will cost us valuable points or do we bite the bullet and get rid asap and get a proven striker in for damage limitation? Impossible, they are adding players to fight for the title, Walcot was their second top scorer with 15 goals and some assist.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry, do you think we should have accepted Arsenal's highest offer so far the £40m + £1?

We haven't received any other offers yet. The club would have loved to have sold him long go I'm sure but they haven't received an offer from Madrid or Munich and neither of the two in France have come forward with an offer either so what can they do - 2 offers received from a club who we would rather not sell to, that is not the clubs fault.

Djedja, Arsenal haven't offered that and yes I'm sure we would accept £40m + Walcott but they're not going to offer that so that's just like everyone else saying we should just get rid and accept XYZ when XYZ are offers we haven't received.

£30m + Shaqiri would be nice we should get this done ASAP - that would be sweet but at least I realise that Bayern haven't offered this so I don't go posting these comments.

Sean Ireland.

We had an offer of 40 mill + 1 for suarez which was turned on.
If you actually nows the meaning of the word Greed, then we too are exactly in, We need the highest money and we ware waiting for it?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Harry I don't understand what you're saying?

Yes I pointed out that £40m + £1 is the best offer we have received to date. I still don't know if you're saying you would have accepted it or would you have rejected it?

I would have not accepted it, But Would have given a hint on the price and probably started a negotion with Arsenal to reach somehwere 45 mill.
Thats what everyone does. falcao, cavani, higuain.
Now what it has left with us?
Arsenal won't increase, might look for other targets, and we would end up having him in reserves and our other positions would be wide open.
LW, CB, RW, LB. whos going to fund for all these spot?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ya I agree I wouldn't have accepted it either but according to the Eds we have let clubs know that he is for sale but maybe at silly prices like £55m. Those 3 players though are perfect examples of what has not happened with Luis Suarez.

All 3 clubs were willing to sell and they got top dollar for their players. We're willing to sell but nobody has put these kind of offers to us. Falcao was over £50m, Cavani circa £54m and Higuain £34m. Atletico & Napoli both got good deals there and Madrid got a superb deal. Liverpool haven't received any offers which are good for Liverpool. £40m from a foreign club fair enough but it has to be huge money to sell to Arsenal.

These 3 selling clubs all got the silly prices they would have quoted or close enough.

I agree we need money for players but until clubs come forward to pay a reasonable amount for Suarez then there's nothing we can do about it.

Just read Harry Redknapp's comments re Suarez. You know you've done something really low if Harry thinks you are a disgrace. LOL.

Actually Harry, Harry was the one who didn't want him at Spuds so you're wrong. He told Levy that he wouldn't suit the English game.

Yep your harry

Not a good day to be called Harry.

An Aussie fan here absolutely primed for the season to start. An early kickoff for the first game suits me just fine (will be a 945pm kickoff for us!). Bought my new home jersey last week and have enjoyed the preseason and seeing our new recruits do the business.

I am hoping Sturridge and Borini can have a relatively injury-free season and put a bucket load of goals away. Hope Coutinho can carry last year and preseason form throughout the campaign and that our new boys, particularly Aspas and Alberto, can acclimatise to the EPL well enough.

Good luck to Rodgers and the squad, and good luck to the fans - I hope we have plenty of positives to discuss this season.

Do u honestly believe we would sell him if he Hands in TR?. Then are u big time delude.
we cannot simply sell him, since we don't ahve replacement.

You're the only deluded one, YES the club will sell him once he hands in a transfer request.
It's all about money for him, stop being a naive child and grow up & support the club not the overrated cheating DF that is Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2013 10:37:38
The club won't sell him even if he submits TR, truth is there are very little options for Suarez to go, & we don't want to sell him to Arsenal who are only his options at this stage unless are foreign club comes!

Agree0 Disagree0

We have a replacement Harry, he is called the poster under yours.

Mushroom,

I would say No, he might be the replacement for Downing. I think we would waste him on the wings, should comepte against sturridge for the CF position.
we need 2 wingers this summer, that's a Must and would be great investment for the future.

Rodgers: We are looking for someone top left with pace and who can score goals.”
Any ideas or possible targets that could be available?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Diego Costa I think we might will go in for him when Suarez is gone dispite the fact that Atletico are talking to him about a new deal.

I'd like Iker Muniain to be looked at. He defiantly has huge potential but he needs to get away from Bilbao to unlock it. like coutihno when we got him Muniain is still young 20years old. the only difference is that he would cost perhaps double than what Coutinho did, but still think he is worth it if we sell suarez. I also feel that he won't have a hard time to adapt to the Prem with his pace, dribbling, shooting and strength.

He scored in the U18's 4-1 win against Birmingham City the other day. Looks a tidy player.
