Will Gomez score this season?

Let's have a poll (heads not hearts)

Gomez score poll

You'd assume that he's been instructed to do it by Klopp, rather than just because Joe Gomez scoring a goal has become quite the talking point, but I do get a bit frustrated when a defender with zero pedigree for cracking in long range goals is frequently letting off shots from 25+ yards on the angle. Seems like a very very low percentage option that usually results in giving away possession from a good position in the opposition third.

I'd love a Gomez goal as much as anyone but, on balance, I'd rather he roll it out to Diaz or Nunez to have a run at the full back or play it infield to Mac Allister, Jones or Trent to try to find a through ball or have a shot themselves, or to look for a through ball into one of Jota's runs.

I'm sure City fans were all saying the same when Vincent Kompany lined his strike up against Leicester, and look what that ultimately led to.

So long as we ultimately win the game, let just try and get his radar in.

Let the lad take a penalty.

And I’m sure Gomez won’t be instructed too if the coaches don’t think he has it in him to strike one well. I also don’t think he’s doing it unnecessarily. I actually like that here and there we are popping long shots and scoring. For quite awhile we didn’t have this aspect to our game and teams park the buses deep and tight as we will keep trying to pass our way through. But now they we have people that can score from distance and do try, I do believe it adds more to our game.

I suspect at some point before the end of the season one of his long range efforts is going to fly in.
I'd put money on it that Klopp et al are fully encouraging him to have a crack or two per game as well.
And why shouldn't he?

OP, can't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket. Just saying.

Winning penalty in the upcoming cup final!

To be fair, he hasn’t been a million miles away with his shots. Joe obviously has it in his locker to score from distance so if defences are going to give him the space then why not?

I think with Robbo coming back and Konate and VVD being the starting CB partnership, Joe might sadly be on the bench a bit more in the future. No doubt we may have injuries for him to come in, rotational opportunities and also the europa league, but less playing time will reduce the chance he scores.

Definitely has it in his locker, scores some rockets in training.

There is a video on YouTube showing some of the squad taking free kicks in training - it's from about 4 years ago but JG hits some tasty shots, although you never know how many attempts were made. Search 'liverpool free kick challenge' and it should come up.

Everton back 4 to all score before Gomez.

Good to keep the opposition defence guessing what he’ll do.

Many years ago in a All Blacks v Wallabies game the Kiwis invited every attending kiwi fan to wear all black clothing in what was called the Blackout game, i know Joe will appreciate it and this will definitely help him score if we all grew a Gomez beard for the City match because he is scoring against City oh yes he is….
44 days till kickoff…
Average time to grow a beard 2 / 4 months….
Klopp is leading by example so don’t let the big guy down….

He's going to end up scoring an absolute screamer. Can't wait to see him score but until then I'll keep enjoying what he does on the pitch, the lad is pure quality.

Speaking of Gomez, does square tomato still post?

yeah but if you consider the shots he's taken, it's not like in that moment there were other fantastic opportunities that he gave up just to get his shot off. And ultimately, we want our defenders to be a threat and vary the attack. He's less than a shot a game which I would not qualify that as "frequently" at all.

He can shoot all he wants as long as we are 4-0 up and doesn’t cost us points or alternatively give him a penalty if we are 4-0 up.

JLC, and Im sure Everton would make up a trophy for that achievement, should it happen.
