Joe gomez is criminally underrated he has made mistakes but he is an athlete. pace, power, can play any position along the back 4 he is a great asset for us .

Totally agree.

Yeap. Injuries hasn’t helped him. And he suffered a few big ones but bounced back each time, that’s mental toughness.

Personally I would start him at CB against Arsenal but I know it won’t happen.

Gomez is class, as a person and a player. I'm made up to see him now having at least one crack at goal per game, I'll be absolutely over the moon when he finally bags his first Liverpool goal.

I think the team that should start against Arsenal is Allison in goal. Kostas left back, VVD as CB alongside Quansah and Gomez right back. It gets tricky in the midfield as quite a few have a case for starting. Elliott should be in there as he has been nothing short of brilliant all season but I just know Klopp will start him on the bench. Jones scored two so you can’t drop him. And Trent should play in midfield from now on. So my midfield would be Szobo, Jones and Trent. My forwards would be Gakpo left, Nunez centre and Salah right.

Yeah quansah has a brilliant range of passing from the back an brings the ball out confidently he will make mistakes but its part of his learning curve. Back to gomez he has to play in some capacity preferably at right back and helps free up trent in midfield were he should stay. Gomez pace against arsenal is going to be important. Some uncomfortable discussions will develop this season but its nature taking its course.

Gomez has basically re-invented himself, in his usefulness to the team. He's gone from very good CB, to very good RB/ LB. The kind of player Klopp loves, and most managers would love to have in the squad. It also tells you a lot about the player and his mental abilities to keep hanging in there despite the injuries and other obstacles.

{Ed025's Note - jack of all trades...master of none comes to mind mate..

Come on, Ed025, so he's not world class, I'll give you that much. But there's no doubting his devotion to the club and the effort and determination that he puts in. Ask any manager around, and they'll tell you they absolutely love one or more "jack of all trades" in their teams.

{Ed025's Note - hes OK i suppose ArAy, should never be near the first team but a decent enough backup i would say, being made of glass has not helped him but i do wish the guy well mate..

I thought Nunez had his best game in quite a while last night on the left. I thought he was far more involved on tbe left than he has been during his stint at centre forward.

On the Gomez subject I thooght he was excellent last night. I thought first half Elliot and Gomez were our best players and 2nd half Jones and Gomez.

Personally, I never quit on him cos I knew what he was like before his injuries slowed him down, he was btw '18 and '20 esp. a part of that 19/ 20 season was our best CB and still till this day, the best partner to VVD I have ever seen.

I accepted that he may not be the player I described above BUT if he is free of these big injuries, he can kick on and he has and continues to churn out great performances. Seems like a truly nice guy, as well. Keep it going, son.

Agreed on Gomez, he done very well and Nunez was certainly more involved. I just wish he had scored a goal. Would make the world of difference to him. He just has to kee putting himself in the right spots, even if he does miss, hoping that it doesn’t cost us points in the meantime.

Ed 25

Jack of all trades master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one, the ful quoye mate.

{Ed025's Note - thanks for the info 1988, but that last bit certainly doesn,t apply to Joe mate..

Like I mentioned elsewhere Nunez must start. This might be the big game where I'd give Diaz a rest and sub those legs on later.

And I'd start Endo, Jones and Szobozlai in mid.

Kostas, Van Dijk and Arnold are then no brainers in defence. That leaves one CB spot. Quansah is a real talent but I would like more experience for a game like this. It would be Gomez or Konate and I'd just edge Konate as he has played with Van Dijk a bit this season.

I'd go Allison, Arnold, Van Dijk, Konate, Kostas, Endo, Jones, Szobozlai, Gakpo, Nunez, Salah would be my starting lineup for Arsenal.
