Hi Ed1

If you're interested could you do an article on why great teams who really didn't need to cheated (Barca/ juve/ Spain) . Never made sense why you'd risk it when there was no real need.

{Ed001's Note - but they felt they did need to cheat. It was the cheating that made them seem such great teams. Would they have won all they did without it is probably the question and I think the answer is a clear no. Would Spain have been so dominant without the help of PEDs? I don't think they would as they would have struggled to keep up the pace of their football. Would Juve have been so dominant in Italy without PEDs and referee assistance? No, they would have never been able to overwhelm the rest of Italian football the way they did. And Barca were up against Real Madrid and there is no way they could have dominated them the way they did.}

Very true Ed001, as players get tired concentration is reduced and mistakes happen. PEDs reduce physical fatigue and hence enable mental alertness.

{Ed001's Note - it makes a huge difference in competitions like the World Cup, where a large number of the players are fatigued from a long season as well.}

You can add Man City to the list.

Ed, has Pep Guardiola ever had to answer questions about his role in these goings on during his time at barce?

Certainly seeing similarities in the dominance city are starting by to show in the prem. not saying city are cheating in this way… Altho defs had a few questionable decisions over the last few seasons. (Everton comes to mind) .

{Ed001's Note - no, Pep has somehow managed to avoid questions about his role in many questionable things - including the accusations of PED usage by former doctors at Bayern Munich when he was in charge there.}

Thanks Ed, saw that 03 -05 Juve team play a few times and they had some great players. Was always bit suspicious of the older players in Italy seeming to get a new lease of life.

{Ed001's Note - but how great would they have been without help? Did it give them that extra %age to make them great?}

We're can I get some of these peds, think I need some for every day life.

{Ed001's Note - most PEDs are perfectly legal to buy over the counter, just not for use in sports.}

Not just athletes. I used to have a Ped in my young days. The Coppers always chased me on it by the shops ? ?.

Regarding PEDs, from reading the above I must say I wasn’t aware of the accusations (not all), Eds if you don’t mind if possible answering this question if you are able to.

Has or is there any chatter regarding usage of adrenochrome by players past or present in football?

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea, I haven't really looked into specifics of the allegations, sorry.}

TY Ed’s 001, Unfortunately it wouldn’t shock me if there was/ is usage of it.

{Ed001's Note - nor me.}

Kew17. don't like to spread gossip but there were rumours about Hudson-Odoi and that substance approximately 3 years ago. I am sure its more widespread much like blood spinning was in Spain!

Cheers Ben, blood spinning? Is that similar to what the USA did with Olympic team, remove white blood cells (if correct memory), from blood then inject isolated white cells into the body for enhanced oxygen supply around the body before events?

If Salah took them, would they be Mo PEDS?

Essentially yes Kew17, there were reports that it was widespread in Spain but the records were all destroyed by order of the Spanish judge presiding over case. and like that the Spanish football team, barca, Madrid, Nadal etc were not investigated further.

I think you mean inject red blood cells, Kew.

Fuentes’ programs, and the Spanish courts decision to destroy the blood samples, is one of the biggest scandals in sport, and it is amazing that things like Spains dominance in football, for example, is not scrutinized more. I think the TUE (therapeutic use exemption) stuff going on now is equally scandalous, completely and utterly exploited, and should be outright banned. But alas, money speaks louder than everything else - Messi’s legacy is completely tainted in my opinion though.

USA called it blood boosting or it was tagged that name by the press.

Pep himself was a convicted drugs cheat. Had the charges overturned later on a technicality.

Years ago I was chatting with Mike Doyle RIP, played for man city in the 70s, and he was saying the club doctor used to give them tablets prior to matches which turned their urine green and gave them a crazy buzz, he said the drawback was evening kickoffs, he'd be sat in bed at 4 am wide eyed like a owl.
