Why do we and other clubs make it hard for themselves by leaving signings to the last few days/ hours? Is it some sort of brinkmanship? Whoever blinks first? Because its a crappy way to do business and you get landed with an Arthur Melo.
Would we see it as a partial failure of our supposed "big summer spending" transfer window? I know I would.

It’s only really us and United in this position. United have been the poster-boy for board level incompetence in the transfer market since Fergie left. We were very much the opposite until recently but we have now joined them in that regard. The only real difference is we have much less money to throw around.

2.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 14:59:43
City don’t have these problems it seems. Nunes in the door now for them should slot in nicely on the midfield.

I prefer to think of it as going window shopping for a new outfit seeing that there isn’t anything largely of right value out there in comparison to current wardrobe and coming to the conclusion that, unless there is a retailer price drop (which can happen as we near the end of the season and they want to get rid of intended sale stock) I’m going to stick with the clothes I have - which ain’t that bad anyway!

4.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 15:08:12
We are signing nobody! We will soon start to hear “Market is tight and let’s see what happens in January” nonsense. According to some Doucoure value would be halved in 6 months time.

5.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 15:14:22
City don't have the problem? They just signed Nunes only today if they didn't get him they would have the problem but I suppose people can say what they wish to suit the narrative.

6.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 15:16:15
Metro I would agree but the issue at the moment is it’s coming up to winter and we’re walking around in our undies. We really should buy a new outfit.

7.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 15:23:07
So City sign someone with two days to go and don't have"these"problems yet us and utd are incompetent.

None of these guys are world beaters, plus they will have to be shaped, moulded and gelled into the squad and team, which is ok when you have an already fully gelled squad/ team and being in 2 or 3!

Too many changes to one working team in any one short timeframe can often do opposing damage and, actually, Klopp being a people person knows that.

He introduces typically over time unless forced to do otherwise. There is an element of force this season as we know but if it is overdone the consequences could be messy!

I think there is a correctly assessed wariness associated with that and, whilst we might still sign someone, it is seen correctly as not an urgency particularly if not at the right price or at the right incoming characteristic.

On that last point character is particularly key and seemingly why we went for Endo.

I’m worried not I’d be more worried if the management team took too much notice of the doubting fans that know little about team building at this level.

30 Aug 2023 15:39:24
I think I'm beginning to think the same unfortunately. We are in desperate need of bodies but just can't see it. Fingers crossed and I can have a large portion of humble pie.

10.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 15:39:44
ManCity got deal done once Nunes downes tools and refused to train - it happens at most teams.

11.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 15:40:43
Theres no need to be in the position we are. Its just a daft way to run a business. People know we have money and this close to the window closing, they can just name silly prices. Not sure how much of a fan backlash there will be if we start getting injuries and dropping points etc but they will only have themselves to blame. Cue the apologists for Jorg, Klopp, Hogan etc. Stevie Wonder himself can see where we need to improve the squad.

12.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 16:13:34
We’ve been in this position far too many times and it doesn’t end well. It’s almost as if the owners don’t care, wonder what happened to that Caicedo money? If it ever existed at all of course.

13.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 16:20:32
Because we gave Klopp/ Lijnders all of the power.

Because nobody knew how to update the inflation line in Michael Edwards' player valuation spreadsheet.

Because our relationships with agents left with the previous Sporting Directors.

14.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 16:24:05
Who want a player that throws their toys out of the pram, downs tools, etc etc?

We are good guys we have an able squad we have a more than able manager who knows more than us!

Here we go again doom gloom more doom more gloom on the scale of fullness of glasses we have barely full in abundance ?.

15.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 16:43:10
The club should take our feelings into account. Keeping us waiting like this is just so unfair!

16.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 16:53:54
Leave it till January

Then say “January is a difficult market”

Leave it till next summer

Then say “it’s difficult because of the euros”.

Spot on “LiverpoolFC8”
You might also want to include “This midfield nearly won the Quadruple” lol.

God I’m glad I Manage to steer clear of you lot at Anfield ???.

30 Aug 2023 17:29:50
What happened last season then Metrored? Do remind me of how glorious that was? Many of us voiced concerns about the squad and the need to make signings only to be greeted with the kind of sanctimonious response you’ve come out with. Supporters like you were wrong then and you’ll be shown to be wrong again. The lack of quality and quality in depth will be our undoing. Once again, the indifference, negligence, parsimony and incompetence of the owners will likely cost us another season.

20.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 17:44:17
We're about to be needlessly left short in an area for the fourth season in a row, for the last three we blamed 'bad luck' when we ended up dropping points because we were short of players in the exact positions we knew we were short of all along

Something about the definition of insanity.

21.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 17:55:38
I am available to fix the spreadsheet, Mike. Just putting that out there.

I give up!

I’m not going to go on like I could do a better job because I couldn’t like everyone else on this site.

We are a top six club and, together with a couple of teams in the Spanish league and a couple in Germany perhaps they are 6 of the top 10 in Europe.

I want first spot, I don’t want any of the spaces below, but I am a top 6 club fan and so my team “expectation” is top 6 and I am not going to bust a blood vessel if they fall short of my want unless drastically and continuously.

Sometimes a top six club falls drastically short like Chelsea last year but it’s not like Grand Prix where you have a car that will win because of the car it’s about getting a group of players to operate as a team and to do that you need to build the team capability incorporating technical quality leadership quality and team qualities.

When changes come hard fast and many at a time it is mega difficult to do that trust me I know.

Right now we have a very capable squad and one I believe already has a team instinct with a few new bodies incorporated.

I’m behind and excited for this squad. Happy to be alone but in reality when your a red YNWA ?.

23.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 18:01:30
We’ve got plenty of players, you can still only play 11 and we seem to manage with 10.

There’s no CL this season.
5 places up for grabs in CL.

So time to give the fringe players a run and see what we’ve got.

Stop panicking.

24.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 18:08:36
If we play are starting 11 in the EPL, then the rest of the squad in the cups (until late on) I don't see the issue.

Everyone is entitled to moan, but it's not for me!

I am happy if we do or don't sign another player. I am a supporter of LFC and my job is to support them no matter what, this is what I do. Every other job at the club is out of my control or knowledge base, so I trust those who are paid to do those jobs.

25.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 18:16:20
Well said Ron! My sentiments entirely - I should be as succinct but it all makes my blood boil the “I could do better view” without actually coming out and saying it. Truth is like we know they can’t!

Thanks Metro and good to see you ?

At the end of the day this is not a game of top trumps, it’s not the size of your squad that matters or the number of transfers you make or the net spend - it’s results of the matches.

So far this ‘weak squad’ that ‘needs bodies’ has won one home game against an established premier league team, drawn one away game against a team that’s spent over a billion in 2 years and won one away game against a 2022/ 3 top 4 team with maximum spending power.

Let’s all calm down, stop counting players and enjoy the contests.

Like I just wrote on the transfer rumours board this transfer window stuff really is starting to take a toll on some people.

Reading some of the increasingly angst ridden and negative stuff is actually starting to cause concern. It’s a sport and is meant to provide entertainment when all is said and done, it really is, and when people lose sight of this then you have to ask what’s the point.

Lots of Tinhat conspiracy theory rubbish in this post.
