Hello Reds,

How many of you feel that a deep run in the league cup maybe be a problem for us in other competitions?

The January/ Feb semi finals really add to the fatigue with teams coming a busy Christmas period.

We should be aiming to go as far as possible in each competition we compete in, i. e looking to win each one. We have a squad for this reason, more games equals more game time available for all players.

I'm not too concerned about that mate, we have a large squad to be rotated and I fully expect a lot of rotation this season, we'll be alright.

The way I look at it is there will be plenty of teams going through the same as us so there's no excuses, we have a quality squad who are more than capable of winning things this season. We'll have our bad days and we'll see our lads tired from time to time but that's football, it happens and we move on.

Sit back and enjoy the ride mate because this season will be one we'll never forget.

I understand that and agree with that. But sometimes getting knocked out early can be a blessing in disguise.

More recovery time more time to work on the training ground.

Focus on the league and CL. The rest are pointless. We don’t have the squad for all 4 competitions. We have names not quality reserve players like City. Our second team won’t win any domestic cups without first teamers.

I think we have the talent in depth. Who would've thought Gini would be keeping out Fabinho? Look at Milner's assist stats from last year's UCL. Plus he's keeping our captain out of the team. I expect Sturridge and Shaqiri to really go for it in these cups. Even Llana if he can find his form of 2 seasons ago. Lovren will need these games to stake a claim to a starting position. Moreno, Clyne and Matip can also get games and do well in these competitions. Plus we have youngsters like Phillips and others that we saw in pre season. So I think these cups could help those players maintain match fitness.

We have a decent sized squad now, it really shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, you're not tired when you're winning ;)

Beef

Lol Gini is not keeping anyone out. Fabinho is struggling to adapt to our style. Lallana was replaced by every new signings ( AOC last year, Shaqiri this year ) .
Wijnaldum and Henderson are cover for the first team.

I would love for us to win all competitions but that rarely happens.

Call me a realist but if it were to happen where we go deep into two competitions I would chose the league and then the fa cup.

I was referring to the Lallana of 2 seasons ago. I never said he would definitely regain that form. I meant that these cups would give him opportunities to do so. I didn't say anymore than that.
As for Wijnaldum's role in the squad, time will tell. What we can say is that he has taken his chance and he's made people take notice. He'll be hard to drop based on his performances so far.
We've got a few youngsters like Camacho waiting in the wings who won't get opportunties outside of these cups.
People are comparing us to City in the wrong way. City has the more talent based on skill levels. Our players have a balance of athleticism and skill. The pace of our game is like Bayern's according Balugon (excuse my spelling) . Players like Gini, Gomez are extremely athletic. Keita and Mane and Salah are just as athletic as they are skilful. So is AOC. That's why he was preferred over Lallana imo and that's why Klopp chose to play him through the middle. So he could use his athleticism to break through in dangerous areas. Shaqiri is good passer with long range bombs so I expect him to be a threat in the same area of the pitch as AOC but not for his atleticism even though he is no slouch if he comes with the right attitude. I think Klopp will get it out of him.

At this juncture, and given the time he has been with LFC and the money he has spent, Klopp absolutely has to win something. Of course, EPL title and UCL are first priorities, but he has to be able to show tangible progress of the team and titles and cups are what are always considered and remembered. So he has to manage it that full effort is placed in all cup participations, as well. If he doesn't win anything this season, I'm not sure that eyebrows wouldn't be raised and questins asked. After all, how many people would stay quiet if Guardiola, Mourinho, Ancellotti or Heynckes didn't win anything for 3 years? The question of having enough of a good squad or not is actually not that relevant. Klopp came to LFC with the reputation of doing more with less. He simply has no choice but to go for titles and cups in all shapes and forms.

I agree Aray1969, he has to win something and maybe needs to prioritize a little bit. He knows he has to win something.

Not that I won't back him if he doesn't but he and us we all deserve this team to win something.

There is point in going far and being runner up in 4 competitions. I'd rather have us win one competition.

You are wrong on Lallana my dear friend Other than a mere 6 months out of 4 years Adam Lallana has been bang average. He is never going to replicate anything. His stats are poor than a for defensive midfielder in terms of Goals and Assists. He is just there Coz nobody were willing to take him for the money we could have asked for / Due to AOC injury.

There is no comparison over players with City. They are far superior, let’s jus accept it. Does that mean they will win the league? No, conte won it parking the bus so does Mourinho.

Can you tell me why is he not playing shaqiri? You are contradicting fat too much in your post mate. There are some good players at Liverpool but our bench and reserves are far aaay from what city have!

I understand that City has bought some of the best players in the world. There's no denying that. But can you name any City players that could beat Mane, Salah, AOC, Gomez or Keita in a foot race. Sane? Maybe Sterling? Some times you need to to call on your bull dogs like Milner, Hendo and Robbo. Klopp's game is based on quick counters. Forget skill for a minute and look at how swiftly and easily Wijnaldum shifts and turns his body. That's what keeps him in the starting line up. The way he turns the play around so effortlessly.
As for Lallana if we have him in the squad then to be fair give him a go in these cups. I understand that he may not be good enough but use these competitions to gauge that.
Nobody is being arrogant. Just saying we scored zero games against City in the first game. Then we beat them 3 times in a row 11 goals along the way. There must be some credit you can give us. We've improved defense and midfield since then. So with out trying to sound arrogant I believe that the gap between us and City isn't that big as a team playing to a suitable strategy. Maybe as individual players then I'll agree that they are more talented though.
