The only position that concerns me is who will partner VVD. Gomez has made a great start but I'm worried about consistency.
don't really rate Matip but Klopp seems to really rate Matip and if Klopp rates him then that's what matters. Lovren has proven himself the most since January. That's 9 months of consistency and he should be back by time we take on top 6 teams. Then there's Fabinho but I doubt he'll play there unless there's a real urgency. Some people had concerns about his talent because he wasn't included in Brazil's WC squad but neither was Malcolm but that didn't stop Barcelona from splashing the cash on him. It's just very difficult for Brazil to be sure who their best players are because of the ridiculous amount of talent that they have.

1.) 19 Aug 2018 10:59:17
Gomes to would never maintain concistantcy until he actually plays regularly, as you also mentioned there are 2 other options to pick from. While you might see Matip as suitable back up and kloopboss rating him highly just goes to the many different views are out there on playing stuff. I honestly don't think Fabs should not be even considered to play CB as he isn't 1, would rather play him in a position his actually good at instead of repeating the whole thing of having another Marko situation where a new player is being used as a wingback when his not.

2.) 19 Aug 2018 13:15:30
Main difference this season is that behind them they have a world class keeper. the assurance, organisation and communication he will bring will be a major improvement.

3.) 19 Aug 2018 13:30:58
Gomez has more potential than Lovren or Matip, I'm really hoping he gets a run in the team. He and VVD could be partners for the next 8 years.

I think we'd all love to sign Fekir. I know I would. The thing is Klopp probably needs more time to see where Keita's best position is. Maybe Keita will be the Coutinho replacement. Keita can play deeper but Klopp may want him in a position where he is more involved in the attack. The two of them could play together but we should probably off load Llana before signing Fekir. Not saying I know that much but food for thought.

{Ed0333's Note - what if Keita gets injured or loses form? Man city have lost De Bruyne for a while and have at least three excellent players to fill the void who do we have have?

1.) 17 Aug 2018 12:35:25
Well keita alternative could be ox and we can't just buy to replace a player who's injured. Gini and lallana can also play that attacking cm position.

2.) 17 Aug 2018 13:26:23

3.) 17 Aug 2018 13:45:16
Shaqiri is a winger, not to mention our only good cover out wide, expecting him to cover cm (a position he's never played before, is just silly.

4.) 17 Aug 2018 16:13:50
We need to forget about the Ox for this season. Given the scope of the injuries and our knowledge of it with others (Danny Ings, Radamel Falcao), we know apart from the rehabilitation, it takes a lot of time to achieve a match fitness level. I think the 2018/ 19 season is going to be a write off for him.

5.) 17 Aug 2018 20:03:04
I think with the option to play hendo and Fabinho, we can afford the extra position to the likes of Sturridge or Shaqiri, someone less defensive minded, or even drop Firmino deeper.

6.) 17 Aug 2018 22:43:58
We didn’t have Keita last season and got to a CL final. The other midfielders can’t be that bad can they?

7.) 18 Aug 2018 06:59:20

26 Jun 2018 08:47:28
I think Jordan Henderson will do well with Keita and Fabinho. An isolated Jordan Henderson is not creative enough to win the BPL in my opinion. I think having him in there will allow Fabinho and Keita to be more attack minded though. Keita can play a all out attacking role and with Henderson dropping back to cover Fabinho when he goes on his dribbles.

1.) 26 Jun 2018 08:55:40
Not many teams would want to face that midfield 3!

2.) 26 Jun 2018 09:23:18
Ed do you expect Hendo to play most games still with the new arrivals we have signed? Im thinking Fabinho is to simular to Hendo with both players sitting, or can you see Fabinho having license to attack if Hendo plays?

{Ed002's Note - I haven't decided yet. Fabinho is not an attacking player.}

3.) 26 Jun 2018 09:26:53
If we sign Fekir or others AM/ CM then i don't think Hendo starts many games. I think he will fall in the pecking order, we also have trio of Ox, lallana and Gini. All of them are better players than him with the ball. Hendo wins on positional play but we have midfielders better than him on the ball.
I don't see hendo starting unless we are crippled by injuries. he does come in as a substitute though when we are trying to see out a game.
Also I haven't really included likes of woodburn and trent who could also be an option but they aren't anywhere near hendo atm.

he is a good captain and decent enough player but he is not a top 10 midfielder in the world right now like everybody on here keeps praising about him.

4.) 26 Jun 2018 09:36:54
I think next year we will play 60-65 games as we push all the way in at least 1 cup and try and go far in every one, as well as fight for the league. We will have the full array of tactical situations to face - from staunch defenses to all out attacks, and we will need to utilise every tacticals from the long diagonal balls to feet through to quick, intricate passing patterns upfield. Everyone will have ample chance to play if they work hard enough to earn a spot.

5.) 26 Jun 2018 10:27:31
I still stand by the opinion that Henderson will have 1 of his better seasons with us. His very nature encourages 1 to be believe this will only have a positive effect on him. The guys has a good head coupled with sheer drive to succeed and good, the football Gods would be crazy not to make him successful, lol . On a crus note I strongly suggest the improvement around him will 1 push him to up his game and 2 allow him to focus on his duties instead of carry some of his partners. Captain my captain.

6.) 26 Jun 2018 13:18:02
Can and Hendo played in the same team all the time. Fab is a can replacement not a Hendo one. There could be changes of formation.

Hendo might not be top 10 cms in the world but he is top 20 surely.

7.) 26 Jun 2018 13:20:23
We very nearly signed Fekir. That to me says we will be getting a new midfield, and Henderson will be fizzled out gradually getting less game time than last season?

17 Jun 2018 14:09:46
I can see exactly why Ed02 gets frustrated with LFC fans. How many times have the eds said that the transfer process isn't as simple as what fans think it is. Fans are so fickle. How long have the eds been telling not to take your information from the fat kid from Bolton. The eds never said the Fekir deal was off but fans keep asking them is it back on.

28 May 2018 13:12:18
I don't claim to be a tactical genius but although Keita is a box to box midfielder I believe that he can play the Coutinho role as well. He may be more useful with accurate through balls from deep though. We miss those through balls from Couts but I reckon he'll give us more than Couts because of his all round ability. Tbh honest Couts only gave us attack where as Keita gives us balance. The thing is we have already signed him so we don't have to worry too much because he's expected to bring another level to our front 3 plus he knows where the goal is himself. Fekir, Dembele etc would give us great options but us having signed Keita is massive. Plus he wins loads of tackles so that should help tighten the defense.

1.) 28 May 2018 13:53:38
Not underplaying Kieta but Fekir would be the most important signing for us! Fekir is simply a magical player mate! He will be our Coutinho.

2.) 28 May 2018 16:11:39
Kieta is very important as he finally gives us some bite in midfield and some nastiness in the middle of the Park.

3.) 28 May 2018 16:14:25
I won't disagree with that. Just keep in mind that the team did better as a whole after Couts left. We suffered defensively accomodating Couts. I'm looking at over all effect on team performance. That's were I think Keita is going to enhance us. Klopp likes fast players like playing through the middle, like Ox. Keita is a bullet over short distances. Definitely not meant to down play Fekir though. I just don't feel like worry my life away about whether he's coming or not. One bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush.

4.) 28 May 2018 19:26:47
Keita is kind of a two way, dynamic player, like Kante with more attacking and creative ability. Having watched a lot of him this season, he is very creative and can score goals as we all know. He also takes free kicks and scored a couple of those this season as well. He is the real deal. Having said that, Ox is just as dynamic so even if we do not get Fekir, if Ox can come back stronger and better then, we could be in for a good midfield BUT having said that, GET FEKIR.

Yep, Chelsea look like they're a striker away from challenging. Lfc only need Lovren to keep up the consistency he's shown since January and we'll have a team capable of winning trophies.

Does that mean you see him competing for a starting position ED002? Like as in him, Matip, and Lovren fighting to start along side VVD or did you mean he's not even in contention for the bench?

{Ed002's Note - You have named four CBs there who would be ahead of him - so two on the pitch and two on the bench - where does that leave Gomez? And if you add Vida if Klipperty has the Klopps for him?}

Maybe Klopp wants to put him in the shopping window.

No one's ever questioned Sturridge's ability. We're all aware of he's injury prone though. Does anybody else think that he could be used as an impact sub. Less games may make him less injury prone. He may settle for that role at this stage of his career.

Even "where's Gomez". Took him time to adapt too. I must admit I was worried about Gomez. Silly me.

I understand that City has bought some of the best players in the world. There's no denying that. But can you name any City players that could beat Mane, Salah, AOC, Gomez or Keita in a foot race. Sane? Maybe Sterling? Some times you need to to call on your bull dogs like Milner, Hendo and Robbo. Klopp's game is based on quick counters. Forget skill for a minute and look at how swiftly and easily Wijnaldum shifts and turns his body. That's what keeps him in the starting line up. The way he turns the play around so effortlessly.
As for Lallana if we have him in the squad then to be fair give him a go in these cups. I understand that he may not be good enough but use these competitions to gauge that.
Nobody is being arrogant. Just saying we scored zero games against City in the first game. Then we beat them 3 times in a row 11 goals along the way. There must be some credit you can give us. We've improved defense and midfield since then. So with out trying to sound arrogant I believe that the gap between us and City isn't that big as a team playing to a suitable strategy. Maybe as individual players then I'll agree that they are more talented though.

I was referring to the Lallana of 2 seasons ago. I never said he would definitely regain that form. I meant that these cups would give him opportunities to do so. I didn't say anymore than that.
As for Wijnaldum's role in the squad, time will tell. What we can say is that he has taken his chance and he's made people take notice. He'll be hard to drop based on his performances so far.
We've got a few youngsters like Camacho waiting in the wings who won't get opportunties outside of these cups.
People are comparing us to City in the wrong way. City has the more talent based on skill levels. Our players have a balance of athleticism and skill. The pace of our game is like Bayern's according Balugon (excuse my spelling) . Players like Gini, Gomez are extremely athletic. Keita and Mane and Salah are just as athletic as they are skilful. So is AOC. That's why he was preferred over Lallana imo and that's why Klopp chose to play him through the middle. So he could use his athleticism to break through in dangerous areas. Shaqiri is good passer with long range bombs so I expect him to be a threat in the same area of the pitch as AOC but not for his atleticism even though he is no slouch if he comes with the right attitude. I think Klopp will get it out of him.

I think we have the talent in depth. Who would've thought Gini would be keeping out Fabinho? Look at Milner's assist stats from last year's UCL. Plus he's keeping our captain out of the team. I expect Sturridge and Shaqiri to really go for it in these cups. Even Llana if he can find his form of 2 seasons ago. Lovren will need these games to stake a claim to a starting position. Moreno, Clyne and Matip can also get games and do well in these competitions. Plus we have youngsters like Phillips and others that we saw in pre season. So I think these cups could help those players maintain match fitness.

If I would've had a choice between Fekir and Shaqiri then obvìously I'd have taken Fekir. I didn't want Shaqiri but then again I didn't want Ox. To be fair I'm sure fans will love Shaqiri of he can build on what he's been doing in pre season. For me, Shaqiri and Sturridge along with Naby Keita have been amongst our most impressive players this pre season.
