I think we will do very well in yhe Champions Leafue.

We do well against the top six because of the way they set up. Big clubs set up to win and that leaves space for Liverpool to hit them on the counter attack.

Every team we meet in the Champions League will be a big club from their respective leagues and so even if they decide to park the bus against us such a tactic would be a bit alien for their players.

No need to put words in Fitzys mouth, is there stoneage. He said he thinks we'd "do well", and you mocked him for saying we would win it!

Anyway, why can't we win it? Our attack and midfield is as good as anyone else in Europe and our defence seems to maintain focus better against the stronger sides. I'm not saying we will win it, but anything less than the quarter finals and I'll be disappointed. Not mad or calling for Klopps head, just sad because i think we have the potential to go far. We won it in 05 with Baros, Smicer, Cisse, Kewell and Traore!

I have to say, the only team that i really fear in the CL is Real Madrid. I think against the rest we would at least have a chance.

Stoneage, what makes you think we can't win it, exactly. We made won the CL under Rafa with quite simply one of the worst squads in our history, beating teams like Chelsea, Juve and Milan who were much better and spent 4-5 times what we spent that season.

Klopp made the CL with BVB with spending a fraction of what RM (who he handily smashed in the semi final in 2013) and Bayern spent. He also made the EL final with a squad he did not pick. His record in Europe is stellar. Arsene Wenger would kill for a European record like that as his is bloody deplorable. So again, what stops us from winning it, exactly?

Clever teams know how to play liverpool, athletic madrid and man utd just play defencive, A draw is good enough for them against liverpool. It's either 1.1 or 0.0 or 4.1 liverpool. I love it when the big teams set up to win, to play football. The original poster was right. In their efforts to beat us, they leave spaces all over the place. Liverpool Ard the experts at exploiting that space. I really think we can win the league. Man city have a lot of new faces that have to settle. Utd are the threat but a bit of brilliants from mane or firminio could ruin jose's plan for a nil nil draw.

Bingo I'm just not getting my hopes up that we'll win the CL because the elite teams of Europe will be better experienced, coached and prepared to defend against heavy metal football.

I don’t even think we should fear Real Madrid as much as some people do tbh. 3 years ago whenever it was we last played them we did give them a great game in the first leg (2nd leg wasnt as bad as the scoreline showed. And go and have a look at our team sheet for back then. Front 3 of borini (Balo in 2nd leg) sterling and Markovic and a midfield with the welsh Xavi. Now look what we have.

Obviously Madrid have also changed and improved since then but not as much as we have. Would be 1 hellova high scoring game that’s for sure if we get to play them.

I think we have a very good setup for the CL as we've shown ability to beat the best in the PL already last season - would feel at least 50/50 chance against any team except RM or Bayern.
