Hi Ed's,

Is there any insurance measures around players with regards to Sakhos current situation?

Obviously he is a multimillion pound asset. If he rules himself out of contention for 6 months + where does that leave the club?

If we were to release him, do we receive anything due to his misdemeanour?

Ed's, what is normal course of action for a player found guilty of such things? Toure and Mutu come to mind as past offenders for drug offences, are there any other big ones?

{Ed002's Note - If the club were to release him they get nothing. There is no insurance for this. Toure was let go on a free transfer the year after his ban. Chelsea were less tolerant and sacked Mutu and started legal proceedings for complensation against him.}

In case we do not release him, do we have to continue paying his wages? And is there any provision to get any reimbursement from the player in terms of his contract length being run down because of the ban?
I am hoping ban is less than a year!

{Ed002's Note - If he stays at the club the club pay his wages - they can fine him. If they sack him they could sue for breach of contract and if they release him nothing.}

Is there ever any clause written into a contract that penalises the player if they are found guilty of substance offences?

{Ed002's Note - This is a banned substance - the club can deal with the player in any way they wish.}

Personally, I hope he simply apologises for his error and we allow him to continue his career after his ban. After his ban he has served his sentence and has every right to the liberties he was afforded prior to the offense.
He has not hurt anyone else, nor will it negatively affect the image of the club, he has cocked up.
When you look at other players who have done far worse in terms of drugs and continued their career it makes Sakho like an Angel.

Jose Baxter - Ecstacy
Adrian Mutu - Cocaine?
Bosnich -?
Jake Livermore - Cocaine
Lee Bowyer - Cannabis

Looking at those above, who have taken illegal drugs and still been alright, Toure and Sakho taking fat burners doesn't look too bad at all.

{Ed002's Note - The image of the club will be tarnished - at the very least this is yet another significant embarrassment. If they come to test the rest of the players at the club (far from out of the question) and another has erred, Liverpool will be out of Europe for this season and probably two more. Comparisons to others is simply yet another pitiful attempt to take attention away.}

I love sahko and think he could become a great defender and the thought of him leaving because of this is not good .
But .
If he was a sprinter in athletics and he had been found guilty of taking a banned substance everyone would be happy to see them banned never to return to the sport .
So if he is proved guilty of taking the substance then Liverpool will have no choice but to get rid and I will have to listen to more rubbish slating Liverpool from my mancs supporting friends with short memories.

I really hope this is a mistake but I get the feeling we won't see him play for us again .

Ed what do u suggest Liverpool do in relation to sakho? Release him and lose what ever sell on value he has after his ban. Comparisons to others is only to show that this is not the first time a footballer has messed up and won't be the last. Significant embarrassment to who? Liverpool, you are kidding right. Before u go listing off Suarez and Stevies book, look at other clubs in the league. Every club has their fair share, (Chelsea more so than any)

{Ed002's Note - Sorry - it is nothing to do with Chelsea whatsoever - yet another embarrassing attempt by a Liverpool fan to deflect a Liverpool problem and make it about Chelsea. As for you thinking that the club will not be significantly embarrassed by this - they will. This is a significant embarrassment to the club who could face difficult questions yet again. This is a club currently facing two UEFA charges. A club with a history of problems. If you think the owners or even Klopp are going to simply laugh this off you are not just embarrassingly stupid, but deluded as well.}

I think selling him to China club for reasonable price sounds plausible.

This is the third player of a team I love getting busted for drugs. In the case of the 1st 2. They are Steelers key players Bell and Bryant. Bothell suspended for toking. Clearly I see no issue with this just to say if I was offered a multi millions a year contract, I'd stop smoking. In Bryant case it is stupidity which allowed him to get suspended for the year. If he didn't have the talent to win football games like he does he would be gone. Still on last chance.
I feel Sakho should be given the benefit of the doubt about his doping. If it's true he took a supplement that had banned ingredients that again is stupidity or ignorance. That can be forgiven. If it was doping that's another. I believe in 2nd chances. My question is does the club see as talented enough to give him chance.

Toure took the same banned substance as Sakho? Hate to say it, but it now makes us wonder about that celebration after his goal, when he ran to Toure.

He will be banned by Uefa (6 months), my guess. He will stay at Lfc and then play when his ban is over. He is an idiot, i don't know what goes thru players heads. I also don't see the reason to over think these situations. Selling him to China? Would he even want to go there?

Ed not to stir the pot but. let's be honest with ones self. You were the culprit who brought up Chelsea in relation to someone's question regarding SAKHO. The question had nothing to do with Mutu and chelsea but you felt like you had to talk about it. Then as others started to compare the two you started throwing a tantrum. that's not cool, a man should know his own mistakes.

Also on about this is significant embarrassment to the club…. don't make a mountain out of a hill. Make no mistake its no laughing matter and the player will answer for his mistake and club will also reprimand the player. Worst comes to worst we sell him as non of the CB's are safe from being shown the door, but to talk about releasing and sacking a player for this is a bit overkill isn't it. Just my thought.

{Ed001's Note - can you not read?? The original question mentioned Mutu. Jesus this is embarrassing.}

IF he is guilty I can't see him staying at the club.

There isn't much in sport worse than being a drugs cheat and he deserves to have the book thrown at him. As much as I loved him as a player, it's inexcusable and he deserves no leniency from the club whatsoever. It;s actually significantly worse than other examples like Mutu or Bowyer because it's not recreational, it's performance enhancing which means he's not just a stupid idiot with a party lifestyle that has caught up with him, he's a cheat.

History of problems? Haven't all clubs. Which ones run smoothly Ed. I never said klopp or owners will just laugh this off. If guilty sakho should be punished, no player is bigger than any club, (John terry aside) . But when u say yet more embrassment try not to sound so smug, it wasn't so long ago your lot were the ones on the end of a PR disaster. If banned Liverpool will replace him and move on. No big deal.

{Ed002's Note - You have no understanding at all of any of this. I have no idea why you have mentioned John Terry nor the ridiculous "your lot". The constant attempts at deflection away from Liverpool are embarrassinging.}

Hi Ed. hope all is well. You mention above that if another player is found to have used illegal substances we could be kicked out of Europe for 1-3 seasons. Would that still apply if a non-European registered player was found to be using illegal substances? Say Ward or Stewart.
Many thanks.

{Ed002's Note - It has never happened before so there is no precident - but I would expect so.}~
