The only reason Flanagan is still at the club is he is from Liverpool. He is a very limited footballer who is a red card waiting to happen. He won't get a game at right back as we already have plenty of cover. It's best that he's sold as his career is at a standstill. Harsh but true.

Ed1 if we pull off the Lemar and Vijk Dijk deals do you see a real title challenge this season, also have we made a proposal to sign Sanches on loan from Munich?

{Ed001's Note - the club expected a title challenge anyway, so did I. I don't know anything about Sanches or loan bids from us sorry. I can't tell you one way or the other.}

D2103

I think it is harsh to call Flanno a limited footballer. He was very solid defender (not something we have in abundance) and then got a nasty injury, which unfortunately appears to have put a huge dent in his development. It was hugely disappointing that he made no impact at all at Burnley.

I don't disagree with your verdict that he is unlikely to make it at the top level now, but I feel very sorry for him because I think all Liverpool fans were hugely excited when he broke through a few years back! And I don't think we should be making judgements on his ability as you have. This is a lad in his early 20's who has dreamed of nothing else but of playing for Liverpool.

Flanno - YNWA.

Mighty

If we pulls of those to deals then O don't see anyone stopping us to challenge for the title. On paper we will have an incredible team!

If Flanagan was in any other top team you would slate him. Truth is he would be lucky to get in any top 10 team. I'd didn't say he wasn't solid I said he was limited (ability)

I think Flannaghan may still have a future don't write him off too early. He cost us nothing he's on a long term deal so no need to rush him after a series of bad injuries, and he's young. The lad can play both left or right back.

Well said ed01! Kind of feels a little insulting that arsenal are in meltdown since we hammered them. but I think if every club gave their manager a hard time over getting smashed by liverpool there are going to be a lot of headless chickens running about this season. I feel for wenger but he's lost that dressing room. I expect liverpool to win by three or four quite a lot this year.

I think if we secure VVD and Lemar then apart from GK, where we are just about average with Migs playing, we will have an extremely strong squad to rival anyone else and absolutely should be challenging.

If we can get Karius to settle and hit form, and if VVD provides some composure at LCB, then I reckon we'll win it.

Agree with that Superred I think Wenger lost that dressing room a long time ago - those players are in cruise control, their body language, their effort, their commitment (Sanchez aside) is a joke and they are rightly being torn into because of it. We were excellent though, and I think the players deserve credit for the quality they produced as well as the work rate - we looked like a team desperate to get a result, they looked like a team who didn't really care one way or the other, and the scoreline told that tale. I hope we can put in more dynamic performances like that this season - if we do it will be an interesting one.

Daniel, your post about Flanagan is disgraceful. The boy has shown his ability when fit and were it not for his two devastating knee injuries, heaven only knows what he would have become as a player.

I remember Flanagan getting England call up. A few years ago he was supposed to be the new big thing. Unfortunately he just doesn't get in the team anymore. I think he should move on and reignite his career coz he ain't getting in front of Clyne taa gomez moreno and robetson. His versatility should make him in demand. A local lad and I respect him for staying and fighting for a place but i think he needs to admit defeat. YNWA Flanimal.

He's right, in his "incredible" season before the injury, he was an average homegrown player and the hypetrain pulled away but he's just not good enough.

Flanagan has to be given time. To judge him or compare him to other far more technically gifted players is a mistake because the man is all about heart, and giving his all for the team of his heart. Clearly he is not a superior technical player. But there's a place for players who put in the grunt work, the work rate, give it 100% and have a never die attitude on the field and in training. Many have forgotten the performance he put in against Raheem Sterling last season, a far more technically gifted player. Got him taken off at half time. Hard work wins over technical talent, sometimes. Roy Keane made an entire career out of it.

Flank might still have a future? In what position? Maybe if Clyde remains injured he might be third choice right back. Rose tinted glasses perhaps.

29 Aug 2017 12:47:05
Yeah and jay spearing was world class too! I'm not critisizing him as a person I'm saying he's not good enough for Liverpool as first choice and since we have a second and third choice why is he still there. If he was Spanish you would want rid. Deluded.

Love ra1969's post. I would LOVE Flanagan to break into the first team. Heart is massive in football and it's not like the kid has zero technical ability! He is quite an intelligent footballer and can pick a pass. I think if he hadn't got injured so bad he would be in the first team. Full stop. No need to search for a decent left back. Like I said, you have to admire his heart and effort. He could move to Stoke or west brom and play week in week out and probably earn more than he is atm but his heart is with the club and you simply cannot knock him for that.

Lot of people on here talking crap. Flanno needs time? he's had a lot more time than markovic who is younger. I'd rather keep markovic. As I said if Flanagan was not from Liverpool your opinion would be the opposite.
Deluded.

{Ed001's Note - Markovic has no heart, Flanno would run through brick walls for the club. It is nothing to do with where he is from, he is simply a better player.}

18.) 29 Aug 2017
29 Aug 2017 13:05:46
I doubt Flanagan has any future with the club. TAA and Gomez has been excellent so far. Flanagan is very poor going forward and equally suspect defensively. Not sure the hype around the lad!

29 Aug 2017 13:46:04
Why do people not like players who actually play with passion anymore? Everything is about being technically gifted nowadays.

Imagine Kuyt playing for us now. The fans would rip him to shreds because he wasn’t technically good but the work rate and passion he put in every time he threw the kit on was impeccable. SMFH!

20.) 29 Aug 2017
29 Aug 2017 13:52:17
We can't defend, did you know in our last 9 premiership games we have kept 7 clean sheets? That yells me we can defend.

I don't think you can say flan is a better player. You might not like markovic and that's reasonable. Yes flan is a hard worker but there's hard workers with passion in non league football so unless they have something else means nothing. Regardless of how great you think he is will he get in front on Taa or clyne or gomez. Nope.
