Regarding the referee appointed for the game tomorrow. How is it ok that a Manchester based referee is allowed to referee a game involving a Manchester club? There is a referee called Peter bankes, he’s based in Liverpool and has been refereeing in the premier league since 2019. In those 4 years, I can’t find any record of him reffing a single Liverpool game. Is that merely a coincidence? Or is he being kept away from Liverpool games for impartiality? If so, that’s completely understandable. But then how are Anthony Taylor and Chris kavanagh allowed to referee city and United games?

OP, this has been a thing for over a decade already. I have no idea and nobody within the heirarchy seems to care about it nor the glaring conflict of interest this poses. Sad.

Bribery and cheating say it how it is.

Peter Bankes doesn't support Liverpool, he supports Everton. He wouldn't help us anyway either. I know this from watching Derby matches with him ?.

{Ed025's Note - sounds like a top bloke to me mate.. :)

To the OP. according to the referee stats (on whoscored. com) . Anthony Taylor gives us more favourable decisions. go compare his stats per game.
Per game, he gives more fouls, red cards and pens against Manchester City and Utd than he gives against Liverpool.
Actually, when you compare his decisions for Liverpool playing away and City playing at home. we come off better with Taylor.
Yes, he is from Wythenshawe in outer manchester, but I recall he is an Altrincham fan (i used to live there) .
Imho. he is a good tough ref, does not take nonsense. just what one needs for an important top game like City v LFC.
Please correct my reading of the stats. if i'm wrong.
I am happy he is refing the game.
I fear more who is actually controlling VAR.

Sounds fair and square mate.

Zephi sorry but Taylor is just as incompetent as the rest of the lot. He is incompetent and makes mistakes that hurt both teams in the same game and I have examples to provide to you but not sure there is enuff space on this page and I reckon the Ed's won't post it.

@OP would it be better if the ref was a Man Utd fan who hates City?

I know someone who knew Kavanagh as a young ref going through the system and he said he is 100% a Man Utd supporter, but he told the Premier League he supports Stockport. That’s how they get away with it.

Incompetent or corrupt ?.
