Hypothetically would people sacrifice defensive reinforcements this summer if it meant that we invested what funds we do have on midfield additions such as Lavia and potentially Tchouaméni who may become available at the right price when Madrid inevitably make there move for Mbappe this summer? Not saying this will happen but rather gauging would fans regard it as a good transfer window.

If Thiago goes as well then 1 defender and 2 midfielders (one clearly being a DM like Lavia) . If Thiago stays then a DM and a defender - we need to focus more on quality than just keep signing numbers for the sake of it.

I think we should buy another five midfielders just to be on the safe side ??? Why do some people go bonkers around this time every season? I've no doubt Lavia or a similar type player along with a CB will be bought before the window closes.

I think we need more strength in depth

Arguably we dipped last season because we had to go to the same midfielders again and again who, over the course of a couple of seasons, had probably done as much running as it would take to do a couple of laps if the planet!

The ability to rotate next season will be key to keep players fresh and able to compete on multiple fronts.

Thiago is going nowhere cos nobody is going to sign a player in injury rehab. As for who we should get, a DM and a CB are critical right now. Anything after that is a bonus, IMO even tho I wouldn’t mind another midfielder. You rarely get everything you want in one window, I might add.

Don’t be so sure thescousehouse, if Madrid want mbappe this summer then they will have to sell to raise funds however I think he will just sit this season out and join them for free next summer it look’s pretty much nailed on so in that respect your probably right.
