Hi Eds, just been watching the hysteria from the sidelines-Bobby, Thiago, Henderson too old, Ox/ Naby/ Thiago/ Henderson too injury prone, buy another midfielder (FDJ, Laimer, Berg, anyone), the PL is already beyond us 'etc' and remembered that this is basically the same team, other than Mane/ Nunez, who almost made a clean sweep last season, so why the panic? Buying another midfielder may hinder the progress of rough diamonds like Bajcetic. Surely Klopp and Pep know the age and injury records of our midfielders and have a plan? Don't they?
Thanks.

Almost winning the quadruple last season means nothing this season. That was proven when we picked up 2 points in our first 3 games. If we want to better last season we need to turn up every game moving forward.

Or if we don’t we can always go back to the fact that we almost won a quadruple and keep posting it. Similar to Arsenals fans still spouting about the invincible. Except obviously they achieved that.

I think most people were upset with the way the team was performing, looking like they didn’t need to try and like they didn’t care. Nearly doing the clean sweep was a good season but ended disappointing. If other teams are improving then we can’t stand still because we were nearly good enough the year before.

I’m with JK23 on this.

You know that there’s no trophy for almost winning something. Right?

The "we almost won the quad" people always fail to mention how the 2 domestic cup finals were both goalless snore draws that we failed to win in 120 minutes. We needed penalties for both. In the CL final we were completely outclassed by a long in the tooth Real side despite having the vast majority of the shots and possession. 3 finals, zero goals. We were a lot closer to winning 0 trophies than 4 last season.

I felt we needed at least one midfielder.

Sorry I pressed send by mistake, I felt we needed at least one midfielder but it wasn't me needing to find one or stumping up the cash.

Babbitt in fairness though mate we did win them 2 domestic cups regardless and the Players and Staff deserve all the credit.

Truth is we didn’t win the other 2. Imagine the argument being we don’t need to strengthen or change because last season we didn’t win the league or Champions league. If that was the criteria then we wouldn’t be strengthening most seasons.

The “we almost won the quad” people are almost as annoying as the “we didn’t scored a goal in the finals” people. We scored plenty along the way!

We won two trophies and qualified for the CL last season.
The squad hasn't changed much and whether that's a good thing or bad thing is the contentious issue this season, so far.
I can see both sides of the argument but none of us really know what it going on behind the scenes. For that reason, I try to be more pragmatic.
If we were under different management I'd be less so, I reckon.

You answered your own question. “Almost” we didn’t win 2 of the big ones. Squad needs improvement to win them. Squad improves by going out and spending money.

New one on me how a team with the majority of possession and shots on goal can be totally outclassed in a game?. With my uneducated eyes it just looked like Courtois had a worldie.

Spot on Rigsby.

I think the point of football games and especially finals is to win them over being the best team on the night.

Rigsby that’s spot on. The squad is very good and we’ve lost 3 forwards and replaced them with 2 and injuries as usual are rife in midfield. I’ve not seen anyone claim the whole squad needs replacing but I’ve seen plenty of calls for strengthening it.

Surely strengthening an already capable squad just improves their chances of getting silverware.

Us talking about strengthening the squad is easy though. We have no idea how to sign a player.
We can chat about who we'd like to sign, about poor performances, players we don't rate etc but some seem genuinely unhappy with how the club is being run. I really don't know what they expect.
The pursuit of perfection is futile.
We've got a team that many fans can only dream of. Enjoy it!
City are better than us but I don't want to be a City fan. I enjoyed all our European Cups too much for that.

In fairness we have no idea about how anything professional football works so should we discuss anything?

Perhaps we should just have one positive post on here a week and we all just give it a thumbs up ?.

I think we lost the CL final more to poor finishing than to Courtois. I guess Darwin was brought in to address this. I assume Klopp and Pep have a plan for the midfield and the coinciding injuries to Ox, Naby, Thiago 'etc' are the reason many are calling on cash to be splashed but what's the point unless a player who fits the plan is available and I'm not sure any of the mentioned names were ever part of the plan. Yes, we've had a slow/ poor start with possibly some complacency from 'almost winning the quadruple' those words that cannot be said on this site without fear of derision for the disappointment last season was for not winning everything.

I think it was our failure to make many absolute clear cut chances, poor ffinishing with the few that we had, and not getting to grips with their midfield as opposed to Courtiois having a worldie. It’s hardly like he turned in a performance like Oblak did against us, now that was a worldie.

Absolutely OMM. The fact that we got to three finals and won two of them and lost the PL in the last 15 minutes of the 38th and final game can in no way be used as any sort of a yardstick for how the same core group might perform this season. Anybody who thinks recent past performance can be used as an indicator of current potential is obviously delusional - Saturday’s result against Bournemouth notwithstanding, of course.
