Crazy that united declined Haaland Ed02, must be kicking themselves. Almost as crazy as Liverpool not taking Christiano Ronaldo.

OP, this is not news. This happened around end of 2019 and the reason depends on who you want to believe. On one hand, Utd declined cos they didn’t want to pay the agent fees that were deemed too high or Haaland didn’t want to play for Ole cos he felt he could do better with a better manager like Lucien Favre (Ole is not in his league) then, Dortmund manager. Like I said, it depends who you believe and frankly, I’m not bothered.

It took Ronaldo a good few years to come good at United so Houllier would have been gone; Would Rafa have given him the freedom or the emotional support Fergie gave him though. Ronaldo, especially in his youth needed a manager to put his arm around him, and that simply isn't Rafa.

I don’t know mind, Ronaldo from the outside seems to be a narcissist but he also seems the ultimate professional and has the exceptional desire and determination to succeed. Not sure if that can be coached into people or if it’s a trait you are born with.

In fairness to Chelsea they turned Mbappe down at a very young age and couldn’t reasonably have foreseen how he turned out at at 13. It’s not like when Barcelona had the choice of Mbappe or Dembele and made the wrong choice, as at that point it was clear that Mbappe was going to be an absolutely world class player and in the Messi/ Ronaldo bracket.

I am led to believe Arsenal were in for Mbappe aswell. Arsen Wenger went to speak to his family. I think he was aged around 15 then. Not sure on why it did not happen.

JK23 I don’t think Ronaldo is anywhere close to being a narcissist. He’s confident in his abilities and in himself. He seemingly has been since he was a kid but that is how he has got where he is today. You don’t become the worlds best player (arguably) without that belief and drive to better yourself. Obviously I don’t know the guy but from what I’ve read he seems a genuinely caring guy that does a lot for charity and those in need. He seems well liked by his team mates and encouraging of others. Narcissists can’t claim any of these. Messi on the other hand……….
