Great read that Ed1 I didn’t know half of that. Don King really was a scumbag leach.

{Ed001's Note - horrible man who ripped off all his clients.}

It really was a huge shock. Good on Douglas but Tyson vs Holyfield at that time would have been mouthwatering. I read Tysons autobiography and he claims in the fights he had with Holyfield that he didn't bother to train. I don't know how true it was but very dangerous if true. Don King is seen as this lovable larger than life character but he really is a nasty piece of work.

Great article Ed. I remember watching that fight and thinking Buster was very well prepared and that he was better than I thought he was previously. I always thought Tyson would find a way to win in the end. Buster's jabs were devastating. Perfect plan really.

{Ed001's Note - Buster was a very skilful boxer, just lacked motivation. Understandable as he never really wanted to be a boxer.}

Great read Ed cheers mate. His relationship with his dad reminded me of Marvis Frazier who was a skillful boxer mover type until his dad smoking Joe took over his training and tried to change him into a brawler like himself. Certainly wasn't the correct plan against Tyson. Great read again ed. Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - thanks Roro, glad you enjoyed it.}

Awesome. Did not know all the details that led to this loss but it was clear to any studious boxing fan that tyson, as you say, ditched defense. His bob and weave of old was non existant. He even used to jab and had deadly body shots (watch trevor b fight) . He became a one kill headshot fighter. What could have been!

Big Baz, that Holyfield v Tyson fight would have been epic BUT “Buster” Douglas had other ideas. At the time, Tyson was having massive issues outside the ring and he was not focused at all leading up to the fight with Douglas.

Buster was seen as a walkover who was just seen as something for Tyson to get out of his way towards fighting THE guy that was going to be his biggest challenger ever. Alas, Douglas did his thing and won, to the utmost shock of the boxing world. The Holyfield fight came 10 yrs too late but had it happened then, my goodness.

Yeah Oli, like I said I don't know how much Tysons word is worth but he claims not to have trained much for a lot of his fights which when you are in there with big powerful fellas is dangerous. I actually watched a documentary about this fight recently and it went into great detail about Douglas relationship with his dad. I don't understand how anybody can be so hard on their children. But good for Douglas. He was really disrespected during the build up to this fight and nobody can take his victory away from him.

{Ed0666's Note - by his own admission he was coked up fighting Bruno. If that’s the case wtf???!!

Yeah Ed, what could have been. If his heart had been in it, he could have been special.

{Ed001's Note - yeah it is a shame. He seems such a nice guy as well, just spends his time coaching kids for free.}

Great article Ed thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Makes you wonder how great Tyson could’ve been if his trainer D’amato didn’t die and he didn’t cross paths with Don king. Also crazy how good Buster Douglas actually was given he didn’t really want to be a boxer. Would love to read more articles like this as and when you have time for them.

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame Cus wasn't around to keep him in check, he would never have let Tyson near King. Thanks Seano.}

Cus dying had a much bigger impact on Tyson than most people realize. The father figure that he needed. Very sad what happened to Mike after Cus died.
