Morning eds.
Could I get your opinion on schurr after watching last night.
Also who stud out for you in the Ajax team?
Cheers mate.

{Ed001's Note - positionally suspect but good pace, strong and timed his tackles well. He would not have needed to make so many challenges if he was in the right place to begin with though!

None of their players really impressed, though I normally like Schuur, the right-back and Neres, but none of them were at their best against us. Neres, in particular, does not look comfortable on the left, I prefer him on the right. Antony and Gravenberch are supposed to be special talents, but neither showed anything last night. You have to remember that these are young players, the oldest in those I have mentioned is 23 (I think), so it is hardly a surprise they did not really perform. With young players you have to expect inconsistency as that comes through experience usually.}

I like the look of Schuurs and Gravenberch tho, Ed01. As for Mazraoui, he is a talent as well. Were LFC not interested in him a while back? Also, I have heard that we are keeping tabs on Schuurs as well. Is that true? Cheers, man.

{Ed001's Note - I know we have looked at Ajax a few times, but not sure who specifically we were watching. To be honest, with Ten Hag playing a similar high intensity, high press system, pretty much any of their players could slot in. Other than Tadic and Blind, who I think we can rule out as possibilities, we could have been looking at just about anyone.}

Would love us to look at Schuurs, looked a real gem last night.

I thought the other CB let shuurs down a bit last night getting caught about 20 yards up the pitch. Mane isolated shuurs 3 or 4 times just couldn't take advantage, on a different day he would have put them to the sword.

{Ed001's Note - Schuurs got caught up pitch a few times himself, it wasn't just Blind.}

Schuurs could do very well under klopp. Or he can go to Southampton increas his value to 70 odd mill and we buy him then.

Redscarface, I think we already maxed out on the Saints, man. There is no player I would take from them right now.

Yes, I thought Schuurs looked good also and I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing him a red shirt. His maturity and taking on responsibility for such a young lad were as impressive as anything, I felt. Seems a confident footballer too, and that’s a good thing.
I wish that Phillips was a couple of yards quicker, if he was he’d make a top centre back.

What do you think, Ed001? Is Schuurs the better player when compared to De Ligt (when at Ajax)?

De Ligt got hyped up massively (and still is) and yet there seems to be very little separating the two, at least to me. I would actually go for Schuurs before De Ligt.

{Ed001's Note - much better if you ask me. As a defender anyway, de Ligt is a better midfielder. }

Yup. De Ligt seems more technical and Schuurs the more physically imposing specimen. What I like about Schuurs is that he deals with a lot of tackles upright and has that accurate VVD type long ball. De Ligt tackles a lot from the side or behind, usually playing catch up due to bad positioning. Thanks Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome Ra.}

It’s mad football. You can be watching the same game and yet have seemed to have watched a totally different game than everyone else. I thought their defence was woeful!
And if it wasn’t for Mane Jota and Salah taking too long to get shots off it would’ve been 5-0
Ajax were brave and should’ve scored themselves a few times, but I think their attacking players are better than all of their defence and keeper.
