Question for the posters what do people make of Gomez as a right full

Wpuld you prefer we get cover for Trent and leave him him center half only.

Obviously he isn't as good going forward but is stronger and a born defender. I think we have enough cover for cb. So a left back, is the priority. We have others who can play at rb too. Trent could become one of the best rbs in the world. Gomez could become one of the best cbs in the world. Glad they're both at liverpool. Both versatile. Id like to see joe starting next season as first choice rcb. I know matip was very good but joe looked brilliant before his injury.

I don't see why Gomez can't do both. He can be the first choice right centre back, and then if Trent needs a rest he can play right back and either Lovren or Matip can play right centre back. In an injury crisis we will also have Fabinho, Milner or academy players.

I'd happily sign someone like Firpo or Pereira mind you to come in and try to displace the current lads, but if you can't convince top quality to come in and fight for a starting role with other top quality players, then just save your money. Otherwise you just end up with players like Zappacosta, Davies, Lichsteiner or Dalot!

I don't like him there don't think he has the quality going forward a bit like when Cara played there. I would say and average full back but a world class centre back. I think he is a good few steps up from matip at centre back and he should be left to play there. Would be more likely to keep away from injury's there to.

He's excellent at CB, or was last season when fit, you can tell he's out of position at RB. He'll do a decent job there defensively but won't offer anything further forward. Cover as last resort or to close out an already won game if we want to rest players and bring on another CB e. g. Matip.

Why would Tierney leave a guaranteed first team club spot to come and play second fiddle to the man who he already plays second fiddle to at international level? I imagine he'd run a mile if Liverpool came knocking.

Our fullbacks are our primary attacking outlet. Their ability to cover an entire flank, provide width and allow our front 3 to play narrow and closer to each other is what makes Robbo and TAA so important to our style of play.
I just cannot believe cover and competition for our fullbacks is considered an afterthought. If it was me in charge, I would be looking for 2 more specialist fullbacks that can also provide cover in other positions, not the other way round.
Get Sessegnon and a RWB like Lala or Doherty in and I would be more than happy with our summer business. Pushing Gomez, Fabinho or Milner to play fullback simply brings down the quality in other areas of the pitch and the lack of width simply makes life more difficult four our front 3.

I agree IB, that we lose a major aspect of our attack when one of our wing backs are out, we should have similar cover for them. Bringing in adequate cover should be a priority. I don't want to see Gomez or Milner playing FB next season except in absolute emergencies (i. e. If both our first and second choice are unavailable) .
