Lots are calling for Thiago Illori to play first team next season. Does this mean that he is having a successful loan spell? I mean no disrespect but he is playing in a poor league so the jump to the premier league will be huge.

{Ed002's Note - He was injured for much of the season and perhaps it is not as poor league as you think.}

Ur deluded if u think the French league is poor. Just because most teams do not spend stupid amounts of money on unnecessary signings does not make Ligue 1 poor in terms of quality. Just look at the likes of Lacazette, Rabiot etc who are targets for some of the biggest teams in the world not to mention some very tactically astute managers in France who are playing good football and bringing through some brilliant young players. People need to stop thinking that more spending makes a particular league better and vice versa.

Fair enough, I'm not a regular viewer of he French league but I was going by what other people had said on this site. I suppose every league has their weak teams

Sorry but the French league is a fairly poor league comparative to England, Spain and Germany. There are excellent players dotted around and it can be quite an exciting one, but the actual quality on show in your average match (i.e. not the top 3-4 teams) doesn't compare to your average mid-table PL clash. I don't think it's a good benchmark for whether or not someone is ready

The French league was viewed by many in the not so distant past as a formality. I think Lyon won a ridiculous amount of titles in a short space of time.
It has grown recently though and Is viewed as one of the big five leagues of world football along with Englan,Germany,Spain and Italy.

I wouldn't tell ibrahimovic it was a poor league.

It's not a poor league, but it is obvious that it is not up to par with the English, Spanish, German, or Italian leagues. It shows in poor international performance of French players as well as poor champions league performance.

{Ed001's Note - the Italian league is ranked lower than the French last time I checked the rankings.}

Poor international performance from France? They were one of the favourites to win the World Cup last year and played some magnificent football. Don't PSG get kinda far in the champions league and are either seed 1 or seed 2?

One of the big reasons why players cost so much in the Prem is because of the amount of TV money sloshing around. A player worth £10M in the prem is not worth that amount in France, Germany etc etc.

Newcastle seem to think its the only league your allowed to sign players from

10.) 14 Feb 2015
Been folloing the French league for 2 decades and the standard might have fallen based on the players who leave every year especially to England. But is is still a very decent league w/ great academies for their youth and some very good young players at Lyon (the best academy in France atm, IMO), and Marseille. Wouldn`t add PSG to that because they were aweful and often used as a punchline for years, just like City until the Quataris and their dosh showed up and like City, became big overnight

It's poor but getting better As a consequence of Platinis hypocrisy and the spectacle of Psg.

Who cares if the national side was ranked high? Matuidi, cabaye, val buena, and maybe a couple more play in ligue 1 and at the World Cup. England had all prem players and we did cr*p. Germany had a lot and won it, Argentina from Argentinian leagues, had very few, it means very little.
