Hi ed, where is the interest in Ben Woodburn?
Hope all is well with you pal.

DaRedMan

{Ed002's Note - The likes of Sunderland, Wigan and similar are keen on a loan.}

1.) 14 Jul 2018 21:31:11
Thanks ed!

So Roma have apparently approached Udinese for Meret. Surely their Alisson replacement meaning that Alisson will be moving very soon you would think.

DaRedMan

1.) 31 May 2018 17:49:52
I reckon Becker is off to Chelsea.

2.) 31 May 2018 17:53:13
He may move but doesn’t mean in any way it will be to us. Already we have ourselves, Chelsea, Real, PSG and now Roma all looking for a keeper.

3.) 31 May 2018 17:55:43
Maybe we should go for Meret then.

4.) 31 May 2018 17:57:32
It seems that courtois is not renewing his contract with Chelsea so will be leaving I should imagine he will be on real Madrid's shopping list, I think it could be between us an Chelsea unless arsenal are in as well, would be nice if we signed Allison I don't know if we will shell the money out he is worth it, he will b less expensive than courtois but quality speaks for itself.

5.) 31 May 2018 18:09:13
Does anyone or the eds know about Thomas strakoshka the Lazio keeper is he highly rated I have seen YouTube but it's all shot stopping which all good keepers have in there closets, I would like too know does he command his box well, communicate with the defence well, is he ready for ruff tactics cos we know wat the premiership is like an certain tactics used especially against us, can anyone shed any light.

6.) 31 May 2018 18:17:28
Good point Jonesred, hopefully Roma don’t beat us and sign him first.

7.) 31 May 2018 19:07:44
Obviously didn’t mean Roma after Alisson.

8.) 31 May 2018 19:00:05
Our guys know the Roma guys and if we pay the proper price we should be fine and if Bobby has convinced Alission in his little chats at the training camp then we should get our new keeper sorted out.

9.) 31 May 2018 19:18:25
Footballing world is going mad . I’m putting £10 on panama to lift the World Cup Just incase any more bizarre stuff happens .

10.) 31 May 2018 20:11:08
Imagine if DeGea kept United second this season a Good keeper (ALISSON) can make us tittle winners! Just Pay the money!

11.) 31 May 2018 21:15:38
Kepa is the keeper we want. Its proving to be extremely difficult though.

12.) 31 May 2018 22:35:36
Massive swap deal happening:

Meret to Roma
Alisson to Chelsea
Courtois to Atletico Madrid
Oblak to Liverpool
Mignolet to Man Utd
De Gea to Real Madrid.

13.) 31 May 2018 23:54:21
If we get Alisson or Oblak I'd be over the moon. Also with the unrest at Chelsea atm and them losing stars + not having Champions League football, why would anyone choose them over us? I definitely think we can get Alisson ahead of Chelsea.

14.) 01 Jun 2018 00:36:00
Hope you are right!

15.) 01 Jun 2018 03:06:57
The Mignolet to Man Utd one made me laugh Ron :)

23 Apr 2018 16:38:47
Graeme Kelly saying Butland will 'more than likely sign for liverpool' this summer. He's proved to be a more believable source over the past couple of years but I leave it up to everyone else to decide whether he's accurate or not.

DaRedMan

1.) 23 Apr 2018 17:24:05
Yeah he is pretty spot on alright. Called Robertson months before anyone even mentioned him and ox months before also. I was critical of karius and have to say he is proving me wrong since he came back in. This deal makes no sense to me. If we want to replace karius it needs to be oblak Allison or someone of that ilk. Butland will cost 30+ million because he is British regardless what division he is in. Klopp has done a fantastic job so if that's who he wants that's who he gets what do I know.

2.) 23 Apr 2018 17:46:23
Well if Stoke get relegated maybe he won't be that expensive if he has a release clause in his contract (just assuming) . Stoke has racked up a huge wage bill over the last couple do years with signing big players. I am sure if they go under they will have a hard time paying those wages.

Mignolet will want to leave and compete else where for a starter spot and I am sure Danny Ward does not want to be second fiddle. Going from Stoke to Liverpool will be a huge jump for Butland if he wants to be on a Champions League team. The guy has not set the PL or England National Side a blaze with his goalkeeping heroics. I can see how this deal can go through, as did Begovic when he moved to Chelsea.

3.) 23 Apr 2018 19:08:11
I would be truly disappointed with the mediocrity of Butland unless he was intended to fit in as a second keeper with Karius resuming first choice and Migs to depart. If we are looking for a first choice keeper than mediocrity isn’t good enough for the way LFC are progressing in Europe. Although I would add that Robertson is mediocre but his work rate and ethic are fantastic.

{Ed025's Note - i think robbo is better than mediocre myself ben..

4.) 23 Apr 2018 19:37:41
I’m not sure this would be a good move. I will always support a player wearing LFC red but I don’t see him as any better than Karius, who has come on leaps and bounds. Yes he still has some issues, but Butland is no better IMO. Even if he just comes in as competition that hardly sends a good message to Karius does it and Butland would want to be No. 1.No I think get some older experienced hands happy to be a number 2 but still ensure Karius is on his toes. Be interested to hear the eds thoughts on Butland v Karius.

5.) 23 Apr 2018 19:43:42
Robertson mediocre?! Even the most bitter utd fans i know have admitted they'd live Robertson and he's been an absolute bargain. Fans need to trust klopp and the lads making the transfers. I have been on here and defended Robertson, ox, salah and van dijk when we were buying them. And they all worked out brilliantly. If we sign Butland we need to get behind him. He's a young gk who had massive potential and has struggled at times in a terrible team. sound familiar?

6.) 23 Apr 2018 19:54:09
UncleBens you lost me at 'Robertson is mediocre'. I suspect you wouldn't be saying that if he was French or Italian with tattoos and a flashy haircut.

7.) 23 Apr 2018 20:26:25
Robertson being mediocre is obviously a harsh statement. However, let's not get all caught up in the better keepers out there. When Karius first came everyone was excited because of the reputation he came with as the second best keeper in the Bundesliga. He struggled, but he is getting better why not let him build on it instead of giving him insecurities. In all honesty I never heard much about Allisson until this year, I am sure this is not his first year at Roma either.

We always try to sell talent coming to be apart of something being built, we as supporters should show the same loyalty to players who have gotten us to where we are now. Karius is definitely a big part of that now, no need to abandon him.

8.) 23 Apr 2018 21:16:03
I’m glad my comments have sparked a fair debate over Robertson. It’s really good to hear a list of varied opinions, including the Ed’s too. That’s what makes this sight so great to read everyday.
I do stand by my opinion of Robertson and it certainly has nothing to do with him being an underdog nor where he is from. We purchased him knowing he would fight to prove himself and that is his work ethic. That’s what I find so brilliant about him and I do genuinely believe he is mediocre.

9.) 23 Apr 2018 21:55:07
Not an improvement on Karius so unlikely.

10.) 23 Apr 2018 22:26:45
Butland is no improvement in what we have. The next step from karius would be a world class keeper an oblak type, right now I’d keep karius and save the money unless we are going for a top class keeper. Butland is overrated.

11.) 24 Apr 2018 04:34:02
Reina is available on free.

12.) 24 Apr 2018 10:56:42
Harry - Alisson joined Roma in July as understudy to Szczesny. Became first choice last year and has come on leaps and bounds. Everything i've hear is that he is extremely good.
However I agree with you that Karius is doing a great job. he's still prone to making the odd mistake but hopefully he will continue to work hard on improving his game and make the position his own for years to come.
Regarding Robbo - I like him. he's not flashy but he works hard and seems willing to learn. What more can you ask for?

13.) 24 Apr 2018 14:27:21
I would keep Karius, he is still learning, and will become a great goalkeeper, he needs to learn when to come out of his goal tho, the 2nd V west brom, he should only have come off his line by a yard or so to narrow the angle, then its an easy save,
like I said, keep Karius, but bring in a left back, moreno has to go, also another centre back and let Matip go,
a deep midfielder to replace Can,
I would use what players we have and who are coming back from loan to cover the front three .

14.) 24 Apr 2018 15:10:52
😂LMAO. Lost me a mediocre uncle ben.

I would love to hear what part of Robertson game you think is mediocre? His tackling? Crosses? Attitude? Reading of the game? Speed?

Of just because our club spotted somthing in player playing for a mediocre team (Hull) he is now desitened to be classed as mediocre for the rest of his career?

In my opinion you should base your judgement on performance and there is no way, in my opinion, that anyone can say he has had anything near a mediocre performance this year and even beyond.

15.) 24 Apr 2018 21:14:42
Anybody want to put their money on Allisson Becker? Could have just been a bad day at the office for the lad.

16.) 25 Apr 2018 03:23:19
Not much he could do about those goals and he saved a fair few that could have made it worse. Roma management want to lock him down to a big contract so I sincerely doubt he moves to England. Of course Roma do love a dollar and he'd be a good candidate for a massive fee but they've got a damn good team there and would had to let an amazing keeper go.

{Ed0333's Note - I didn’t think he made any world class or eyebrow raising saves last night. I’m not being disparaging because I’m sure he’s an excellent keeper I just haven’t seen enough of him to make a judgement. I can only comment on what’s put in front of me.

24 Feb 2018 21:05:30
According to Paul Joyce we want Jorginho from Napoli in the summer. Would be some deal if we can get him in.

DaRedMan

1.) 24 Feb 2018 21:55:14
Now we’re talking! Hope so.

2.) 24 Feb 2018 22:10:57
With him being so popular we’d probably have to steal him to get him😏.

3.) 24 Feb 2018 22:02:41
Nah. Just another name not mentioned by the eds. Not having it.

4.) 25 Feb 2018 00:24:14
Blackpool?

5.) 25 Feb 2018 01:57:27
Seriously. What player in world football wouldn’t look at what Liverpool are doing right now and not want to play for them if they come knocking? The only things to hold them back are money. The trophies will come. Believe.

6.) 25 Feb 2018 03:04:07
Perfect midfielder for our system. We get a proper No.6 and allows Hendo to move into his preferred position and as a utility player.

7.) 25 Feb 2018 05:44:23
Jorginho lob balls to the Fab 3 will be nightmare for any team. Imagine having to mark Salah, Firmino and Mane all at once with lob balls falling from all sorts of place. This guy can defend and turn it to lightning pace counter. To me we must get him at all cost!

8.) 25 Feb 2018 14:26:02
Jorginho (if true) would be a spectacular addition. The Xabi Alonso type of player to sit alongside Keita and Hendo/ Wijnaldum (choose one) .

9.) 25 Feb 2018 15:26:25
Kwkhong, then add into the equation that if teams drop deep to stop the runs in behind we will have Naby to pick the ball up in the spaces. Fingers crossed we really push on in the next window and get some top top talent.

24 Jan 2018 12:29:30
Ed002, is there going to be a sharkopod going up soon? Not thinking of just Liverpool but teams like Arsenal and Spurs. Always interested I listen to them even when it's not to do with Liverpool.

DaRedMan

{Ed002's Note - For a few other clubs hopefully.

1.) 24 Jan 2018 13:19:14
Okay I look forward to hearing them mate.

Hello Ed001, just wondering if we’ll be getting a match review for the Chelsea game from you? It’s been years since I’ve posted on the site, but I’ve always been following and always enjoy the match reviews.

DaRedMan

{Ed001's Note - I very much doubt I will have time. I was hoping to get it done yesterday but had to do other things sorry.}

1.) 02 Mar 2024 05:24:26
Don't worry about it Ed. It would have been nice to hear your thoughts on the game though since it was a cracking one.

{Ed001's Note - thanks. Really sorry I really wanted to do it. Would have been much better than what I was doing! It was such a good game, I thought. I really am looking forward to watching it again when I get a chance and am not just stood in queues waiting to fill in forms or sitting in a cell because some idiot (no not me this time) had clicked the wrong option on their computer screen.}

2.) 02 Mar 2024 07:22:45
Sitting a in cell! Are you actually talking about a prison cell or have I got that totally wrong eds1.?

{Ed001's Note - sort of, yes. A holding one. All sorted now.}

3.) 02 Mar 2024 07:49:57
Was it Ed25 who clicked the wrong option Ed? You can't put a red button in front of that guy and expect him not to push it. That's just not who he is.

{Ed001's Note - they said it was a mistake, so it can't be 25 as he would defo have done it on purpose!!}

4.) 02 Mar 2024 07:53:34
Mate how about you write an article of klopps top games!

{Ed001's Note - because with my memory I wouldn't be able to remember anything about them!!}

16 Jan 2019 21:50:45
Hey ed001, how are you mate? Just a quick suggestion for an article, 'the top 10 overrated players in the premier league' and then you could maybe do underrated players too after that.
Really appreciate the work you do here.

DaRedMan

{Ed001's Note - I have them on my to do list mate, don't worry. Though I hadn't got it specified as Premier League.}

1.) 16 Jan 2019 22:16:17
Great thanks. I look forward to reading them.

{Ed001's Note - I will try and get round to them as quickly as possible for you mate.}

2.) 17 Jan 2019 09:39:45
Is the article not just purely based on England's so called golden generation Ed? ;)

Barring Ashley Cole and Stevie G that is.

{Ed001's Note - no mate I was doing current players.}

18 Oct 2018 14:13:48
How's the article comparing our current squad with the 08/ 09 squad coming along Ed?
Can't wait for the game on the weekend, feels like this international break has gone on forever again!

DaRedMan

{Ed001's Note - do you mean this one?

1.) 18 Oct 2018 15:42:07
Great article Tris.

We will no doubt be accused of having failing memories (esp you :-P) but I can honestly say I've not felt as confident watching us play as I vaguely remember I did during the end of our golden era. Given I Was 13 when we last won the league, those memories are very hazy, but this confidence in the team is both very satisfying and a little bit scary!

{Ed001's Note - agreed mate, it does feel like the closest to glory since that time.}

2.) 18 Oct 2018 17:04:53
Fantastic article Ed001, really enjoyed that. I think in sports in general, but particularly football, people tend to look at era’s with rose tinted glasses. But I thought you were fair throughout.

I’d probably go with Robertson over Aurelio as I have a hard time looking past his fitness issues, but as you aptly pointed out this was a comparison between the teams at their best. I mentioned the other day that I thought the biggest difference between the squads was the quality in wingers, really just goes to show. Though I do wonder what Torres could have done with better service. Would love to have Gerrard and Xabi in the current squad.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, glad you enjoyed. It was hard choosing between them but today's team is a whole squad of quality whereas that was 7or 8 and then fillers.}

3.) 18 Oct 2018 17:12:11
Thanks Ed! Don’t know how I missed that, have a good one.

{Ed001's Note - I did it during the international window so it wasn't long ago.}

4.) 18 Oct 2018 17:51:40
Nabil El Zhar scored recently in Leganes 2-1 win over Barcelona. I was surprised to see that he is still playing.

{Ed001's Note - he has scored a few recently, it woke me up as well, I had completely forgotten about that waste of money. He was one of our highest paid players ever when we signed him.}

5.) 18 Oct 2018 18:01:33
Was this article posted up on the site Ed because I don't remember it mate? maybe it's just old age and I've already forgot about it! Either way, fantastic article as always, keep them coming mate, quality.

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, well I posted it on the thread that reminded me about it, I don't know if the autolink generated as well. Maybe it didn't work then, I never thought to check.}

6.) 18 Oct 2018 18:11:17
Really enjoyed that. Thanks edd 1 bravo.

{Ed001's Note - cheers neggy glad to hear that. Though that was a positive comment be careful!! ;-)

7.) 18 Oct 2018 18:26:51
Ah it might be just me not remembering Ed mate lol memory like a sieve at times!

I must ask Walter, are you feeling well? a positive comment! does this mean we're changing you mate? slowly but surely making you into a believer! ;)

8.) 18 Oct 2018 20:01:16
Hi Ed001, I know that Kuyt isn't a quality player, but he makes up for it with his working off the socks and has some good finishing skills. I would also think that Benyaoun is another good small player.

{Ed001's Note - Benayoun was excellent but Rafa kept him on the fringes of the team far too much, understandable as his best position was off the striker and Gerrard played there. If Gerrard hadn't thrown his toys out of the pram about playing on the right, where he had his best season, then Benayoun would have played behind Torres and excelled more I think.}

9.) 18 Oct 2018 20:22:40
Loved Benayoun as a player. Not only his talent and ability BUT most of all, his work rate, work ethic and relentless attitude to the cause. Great player and a gentleman.

10.) 18 Oct 2018 20:46:11
Brilliant stuff ed, can't wait to read it. Thank you very much.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

11.) 18 Oct 2018 21:00:24
Very interesting article, thanks Ed001.
I missed that first time around too somehow.
One thing not mentioned, in favour of the 09 team, was a more even spread of goals around the respective teams.
09’s defence scored a very decent amount, whilst Gerrard in midfield was a huge contributor.
Our team now is very reliant on the front three, as we’ve seen. We really need the other parts of the team to start adding goals too.
Having said that, today’s team is chock full of pace all over, and I think they’d be too much for the 09 boys perhaps.

Add Gerrard, Alonso and Torres to today’s squad and it could well win the League.
Or add Van Dijk, Mane and Salah to 09’s and that would have too!?
Hey ho.

{Ed001's Note - let's hope we have enough to win it without those 3.}

12.) 18 Oct 2018 21:29:51
Brilliant read and analysis, Ed. I had posted on an earlier thread on this same issue and w/ o even blinking, I said that this team is better than the '09 team, hands down esp. now that we have a better GK, defence and depth in the team. However, the way you analysed both team (awash with pace) in the article was pin-point and bar the midfield (no one can argue with Xabi and SG) of the 0'09 team, Klopp's team is way better in near every other dept. I mean, imagine Carra, Skrtel, Hyppia (the later two were great), going against the relentless movement and guile of Salah, Bobbie and Mane? That would be epic.

Also, Rafa only had Utd to contend with, just as BR only had City to contend with and they screwed up mainly due to their arrogance and ego (esp. BR) BUT the bar is WAY higher for Klopp now cos he has near 4 teams to contend with hence, his margin for error is minute. Hope he can succeed were the others failed. YNWA!

{Ed001's Note - 4 teams? Surely it is only City to contend with?}

13.) 18 Oct 2018 22:32:11
City, Chelsea. and ourselves as our main challenges to the title in my opinion. If we keep our heads and teams start attacking city I think we’ll be grand. Could be a great season. Regardless, second season in a row with heart in my mouth - that’s what football is about.

14.) 18 Oct 2018 22:54:36
Not sure if it was mentioned when comparing now with 08/09, after 8 games we were joint top with Chelsea on 20 points and united were on 14 points, just one more point than they have now.

15.) 18 Oct 2018 23:33:11
Showed how hood rafa was though! Love the bloke.

16.) 18 Oct 2018 22:41:50
What a brillant read ed.

{Ed001's Note - thank you Para.}

17.) 19 Oct 2018 06:37:39
The 4-1 win at Old Trafford was great but the 11 draws did for us that season which I guess shows the lack of squad depth and maybe Rafa’s tactics were slightly more defensive because of this . think we started and ended the season great but struggled to cope with champions league and domestic cups along with league fixtures
Will be interesting to see if Klopp can manage this better squad effectively through the season.

{Ed001's Note - Rafa's tactics were defensive because that is the way Rafa plays, nothing to do with squad depth.}

18.) 19 Oct 2018 06:59:58
I was trying to be generous to him . great coach bit overly defensive.

{Ed001's Note - I love Rafa, but, no matter how generous you can be, he blew that season by being too defensive at the start.}

19.) 19 Oct 2018 10:19:55
do you not view chelsea as a threat this year ed?

great article, i absolutely loved torres, was my favourite player just as i was really getting into football. the way he moved with the ball was fantastic. thanks for the reminder about degen and el zhar, had finally managed to forget about them!

{Ed001's Note - to us, yes, but they are playing for second or third imo.

Degen was an embarrassment.}

20.) 19 Oct 2018 11:57:07
Lol Rafa had a tendency to really pull out shocker, remember the Paulsen old man from Juve, Veronin and his ponytail and the Serbian guys who played on the left. It does make me wonder as a lot where so called free agents or low profile transfer that can be seen as alternative for primary targets. My main question is now that Mr Mou is self distructing with signings that don't make sense and Rafa having a history of making it publicly known when he feels he isn't backed, how similar are the two men as managers as they seem to have a lot of common things besides Real Madrid and Inter.

{Ed001's Note - wasn't Poulsen signed by Hodgson?}

21.) 19 Oct 2018 12:59:48
yes he was a hodgson signing.

22.) 19 Oct 2018 19:22:55
Spot on, Squizza. Rafa's defensive nature cost us the league that season, end of. I have NEVER bought the whole schstick/ excuses about the owners stifling him (which was true to an extent) and not letting him buy players. He bought a whiole bunch of dross when he WAS given money so that was down to him and nothing more.

The fact was that we were top till Jan BUT it was the 11 draws (vs low block teams) was what cost us. Rafa would rather play not to lose sometimes instead of going for the win. He would often play two sitting DM's at home vs the likes of Hull, Wigan, Birmingham etc and then we are surprised we got draws, all 11 of them. The hope now is that Klopp can get it done this season so here's to hoping.

02 Oct 2018 09:58:30
How's that match review coming along ed?

DaRedMan

{Ed001's Note - my TV box has been playing up so I haven't been able to go back and watch it a second time yet. That is all that is holding it up. They are sending an engineer out to look at it today, so fingers crossed.}

1.) 02 Oct 2018 10:18:00
No worries ed, hope all is well with you mate.

{Ed001's Note - yeah good mate, thanks for asking. How are things with you? Looking forward to the Napoli game?}

2.) 02 Oct 2018 10:40:28
highlights football . com have the full games. They're usually available a couple of hours after the final whistle.

{Ed001's Note - I don't want a stream when I have a 4k box mate, you would be amazed how much more you see in the better quality.}

3.) 02 Oct 2018 13:38:35
Good here thanks. Can't wait for Wednesday, a result in Naples would be huge.
I just want to apologise regarding the U23 updates. I said early in the summer that I would do them but recently I got a new job and as a result I haven't seen any of the games at all.

14 Jul 2018 14:39:14
Is our game today only shown on lfctv or have others found an alternative way?

How should the club act on it Ed? I refer to the situation with the young players. Better loan system? Clearer route to first team?

DaRedMan

{Ed002's Note - They need to have a plan for each player - there will not be loans for the Under 18s. What gets players who are close to the first team is young players arriving who are going to be ahead of them.}

I love to see youth coming through. I really hope Bobby Duncan gets a chance in the next season or two as well as his strike partner, Glatzel. Both look absolutely class, 20 odd goals each in as many games.
