Well personally I think that's us goosed now. FSG have serious debt problems and this was a method of solving that. The only other realistic option now I suspect is to sell-off major players and not replace them, cancel planned projects and see what other assets can be strippd and sold (land etc) .

Within a couple of years we'll be back to the same level of the last year of the reign of Gillette and Hicks, only this time there will be no white kights riding to the rescue unless they can do exactly what FSG tried to do - capitalise on the brand internationally.

We do not have a right to exist. The club has to generate the money from income to pay it's own way or it simply is not a sustaiable venture for any would-be take-over.

1.) 21 Apr 2021 07:33:32
So are you in favour of the club ruining football as we know it?

2.) 21 Apr 2021 07:37:12
If this appalling, elitist and destructive version of a sport loved my billions was the 'only' option FSG had, then I would rather be finishing 8th every season with the occasional league Cup win and miracle in Istanbul to watch than play in a league like that .

3.) 21 Apr 2021 07:56:44
John Henry is by most accounts a highly intelligent ruthless businessman, he seems highly sensitive to criticism, based on that I'd say its fair to say he will attempt to make as much money out of the club as possible before leaving it as destitute as is profitable .

4.) 21 Apr 2021 09:12:25
I share the concerns outlined above, however perhaps there is a chink of light. FSG and Henry will always put business first. To maximise the ongoing value of their “asset”, they have to ensure the club remains close to the most lucrative revenue streams. I think they will spend just enough to ensure that happens - as is the case along the M62. It may be the lower reaches of the Top 4 and an occasional cup rather than something else.

Whatever unfolds I expect us to be a more aggressive developer and reseller of young talent and at the forefront of whatever new scheme is being cooked up.

Personally I’d rather they left but can’t see how that could happen in a way I would find acceptable - they’re pretty despicable but I’d rather have money grabbing Yanks over those with a much lower set of moral values.

5.) 21 Apr 2021 09:27:01
Doing that would be a major risk! No CL, less money and less from sponsorship. Its a balancing act the club need to get right.

6.) 21 Apr 2021 10:29:52
You don't think there's some Billionaire investors rubbing their hands together now? Think this makes Liverpool more appealing to someone looking to buy. But looking at FSG it seems they wouldn't give a hoot that fans want them out, they won't look to sell, or i'd be surprised if they did, i pray they do.

7.) 21 Apr 2021 11:09:08
No there isn’t Lancaster!
What billionaires do u see wanting to buy the club!
Anyone else comes in it’s to make money end off it’s a business they will all see and try to do the same thing when they see they’ve hit a wall in profits!
Fans need to wake up stop thinking it’s rains money!
Oh know city are buying messi and haaland and we’ve only bought davies wake up!
What buyers want to buy a club where your been told your assets will be burnt to the ground you’ll be shot if u enter Liverpool etc get a grip!
Go back and watch sly sports news there they are the winners!

8.) 21 Apr 2021 11:35:03
It is difficult to see how they can sell, the club is significantly devalued at the moment due to reduced revenue with the ongoing C.V. situation. If FSG want as much money as possible they will have to wait for a better economic environment, that could be another year away.

If C.V. hadn't come along, the club would have been worth the most last summer.

Who is going to buy the club with the current situation going on.

9.) 21 Apr 2021 13:53:50
If we are like that imagine Barcelona with more than a billion debt😅.

10.) 21 Apr 2021 14:23:25
sorry but not having Spirit of shankley running LFC. Who have their own agenda. I'd rather stick with FSG. They made mistakes before with ticket pricing, but they have also done some good things. like keeping anfield and investing in that stadium.

{Ed002's Note - You don't need to worry about that.}

11.) 21 Apr 2021 17:52:51
I'll make you a nap-on guarenteed forecast now. Within 10 years, China will have a world-beating league, hoovering-up the greatest players from all over the world, earning money that makes wages now look like chicken-feed, and the european game will be in serious, impoverished decline. And buy opposing the ESL, you've all but guarenteed it. The fact that some of you can't even see that beggers belief.

{Ed001's Note - you are talking nonsense. The fact you believe it shows how little you understand the game. China's rise was due to government support, which got withdrawn a long time ago. The huge wages are not only no longer on offer, but clubs are limited on signings from abroad as their interest is in creating a national team that can compete.} Become a Patron!

12.) 21 Apr 2021 18:20:47
We shall see. Europe is in decline. The future is the emerging markets of Africa, China and Australasia/ Malaysia and having the ability to ruthlessly exploit them before they ruthlessly exploit you. In China, big money talks and government listens and changes.

{Ed001's Note - Europe is in decline? Utter crap, European football is far from in decline, the European Champions League is the most obscenely successful competition of all time. And it is getting more successful with each season.

Quite happy to take that bet Lenin. Shame I need to wait ten years to win though. How’s £100 sound?

14.) 21 Apr 2021 23:15:49
Chinese soccer is in reasonably big trouble. Couple of major clubs have folded due to their owners running into financial trouble. Not all is rosy with the chinese economy.

15.) 22 Apr 2021 09:59:00
Am i right in saying the current league winners of the CSL had all money pulled from them by the owners and are no longer a team?

{Ed077's Note - Yes. Jiangsu Suning, later named Jiangsu FC, won their first trophy in the last season and then the team was folded due to the economic strain caused by the pandemic.

The same owners also own Inter Milan.}

16.) 22 Apr 2021 12:25:33
Calm down Jay, there are always buyers looking for clubs, might not be the right buyer but their always looking for the next investments, if you don't believe the richest want to get into the richest league in the world then that's your view, I've been saying all week that now we should be getting a cap introduce on agents, players and transfers, that is the only way clubs won't be in hundreds of million in debt, but you won't see Neville and everyone kick off about that for the fans, the fans haven't got football back, Perez is right, it won't stop the clubs looking to form a new competition because they feel there the ones who the people watch so they should get the bigger slice of the pie, Uefa and Fifa are the winners, you think they will get investigated properly now? Like the Qatar world cup investigation, all elite football is corrupt at the top because of the money.

{Ed077's Note - all elite football? Is that the football franchise league created by Tony Khan lol ;-)}

17.) 22 Apr 2021 12:55:21
Ed 077, thinking more, poor mans XFL league ha.

{Ed077's Note - kind of. Now does it mean it will keep creeping up every so often?}

18.) 23 Apr 2021 12:20:57
Ed077, for anyone to think otherwise would be foolish.

I believe Burnley's James Tarowski is back on the radar as the potential long term partner for VVD.

Gen info, direct from Ken Aguero.

RED LENIN

1.) 07 Jan 2019 22:11:59
Hope your trying to wind us up as we have enough rubbish at the club without adding another average player if we are in the market for another world class centre half then test Napoli's resolve and make a proper bid for Koulibaly.

{Ed0333's Note - And what message does that send to joe Gomez who was playing out of his skin before his injury.

2.) 07 Jan 2019 22:25:45
Agree about Gomez has been fantastic this season but injury record not great for a youngster if you want to be the best in the world you have to have the best players what's to say Gomez couldn't play full back more solid than TAA imo. Defence :-Alisonn, Gomez, Van Diyk, Koulibaly, Robertson if that's not enough to get you excited I don't know what is Ed0333.

{Ed0333's Note - Gomez is no right back mate he’s too haphazard there. I’m sure Koulibaly would be VVD money and I’m not sure we will spend that amount on a player again.

3.) 07 Jan 2019 22:58:29
Let’s be honest, Matip and Lovren can’t stay fit, if one of those was to go and someone come in, it doesn’t say anything to Gomez. Just cos he’s playing well you can’t expect the club not to cover themselves. It’s showing now you can’t have three injury prone cbs. Also Gomez and vvd can’t play every game. Adequate cover is needed.

4.) 07 Jan 2019 22:49:24
Ed0333 Do you no if st this stage we only have Virgil as a for centre half for Brighton?

{Ed0333's Note - too early to tell mate. Lovren wen off after 2 mins clutching the back of his leg so looks ominous. Fab ain’t no Centre back and the Dutch kid won’t be risked in a premiership game will he? Materson and philips might come into the reckoning? Gomez and Matip are weeks away so if Lovren is anything more than 2 weeks I’d say we’re a little bit snookered unless we dip our toes into the market.

5.) 07 Jan 2019 23:04:28
Tarkowski is pants and he’s a manc. Not to mention his big ears either.

6.) 07 Jan 2019 23:33:16
I’d say Hoever is more likely to be used if materson and Philips where left out today.

Let’s hope our attack keep Brighton pegged back at the weekend so our defence gets a routine run out with injuries.

7.) 07 Jan 2019 23:50:55
Nat Phillips is injured Ed, shame as I'm sure he'd have picked up a couple games in this run of fixtures with our injuries.

{Ed0333's Note - thanks mate

8.) 08 Jan 2019 03:43:21
Masterson is fit again and I’m sure he’ll get a start over Ki Jana in the PL. KJ looked very good last night for his age, but I’m sure he was there only because it was FA cup and wasn’t expected to be used. It’s a lot to ask him to step in to face the likes of Murray at age 16 in a PL match.

My bet is Klopp will go with Fabinho though and I think he’ll do a decent job.

9.) 08 Jan 2019 06:27:18
It's send a message to Joe that you got your contract, even with yet another injury on top of the countless ones you have has because we know your value but you are at a top club and competition is fierce.

Lovren and Matip can no longer be our back ups. It's just not acceptable.

We go from an Italian defensive line with vvd to complete chaos without him. Before we signed him he had 6/ 7 months out with an ankle injury. So it's not like he has never been rocked by anything before and we are done if that happens.

People complained about shaqiri at the time but look at that now for cover and I personally would still like one more player to be able to rotate the front lads.

But Moreno, Matip, Lovren, clyne and mignolet. Where are worst ever defence and are not squad depth. They all need replacing.

Robertson, vvd, Gomez, Trent and Alison is ridiculously good, but we need better for cover and rotation.

10.) 08 Jan 2019 06:41:59
He will go Fabs you would think, I actually thought he did okay with very little support from the full back positions.

11.) 08 Jan 2019 08:05:56
Fab dove in a couple of times and could have been punished for it, the first goal is a good example, either take him out or run the man and see if you can push him wide, don't dive in as last man. Not only one at fault, why milner couldn't get round his man defeats me.

12.) 08 Jan 2019 13:03:47
Any centre half with VVD talking next to them seems to improve a few notches. Fab isn’t ideal there but with VVD next to him I’d be a little bit more comfortable with it.

13.) 08 Jan 2019 16:36:50
Fabinho did as well as anyone could have in that situation. Hoever looks so promising but he will be targeted and bullied in the prem.

2.) 13 Jan 2018 13:48:02
Hmm history would beg to differ! Klinsman joined Spurs.

3.) 13 Jan 2018 14:07:08

4.) 13 Jan 2018 14:37:04
True Red Reaper. But the worst decision made by any German in history, was when Bastian joined Man Utd 😉 name me a German who made a bigger mistake than that!

5.) 13 Jan 2018 14:25:10
“I always feel more inclined to believe German press. German people in general are just sensible people. ”

9.) 13 Jan 2018 17:18:48
Don't mention the war sybil dear.

10.) 13 Jan 2018 23:40:55

If anything it sounds like you have never met many Germans.

11.) 13 Jan 2018 23:44:26
stable genius what was it that ron said that made you think he didn't know many germans he made no false claims or said
the germans are masters of efficiency or
at the first signs of summer they like to get naked or
the germans have no sense of humour or
the Hoffis a demi-god or even
the germans train always run on time
not sure what he said for you to arrive at that conclusion lol.

12.) 14 Jan 2018 01:41:53

If true, although I believe that money would be better spent elsewhere, let's hope he settles in quick and does really well.
If he is a red he gets my full support until he does anything like not bother (Mario) or is constantly rubbish and blocks youth progression (Welsh Xavi)

2.) 01 Jul 2015 12:37:59
Well if he's complete rubbish then he is also blocking youth progression so your comment about Allen is pretty rubbish itself. "Gets my full support, but if he's rubbish, he doesn't." That's not full support.

Dries Mertens

and basically anyone else who is a striker and currently alive.

Greetings. Not been on for a while.

The proposed European Super League is an unavoidable progression of things like Sky TV.

It created an internationally marketable commodity and the elite clubs have now decided they want the bulk of the money their 'brand' produces - simple as that.

To show the impact of things like Sky, most of the big clubs fans are no longer in their home countries - they are in North America, China, Australasia.

If it goes ahead - and I believe it almost certainly will, whether fans like it or not, internationally it will be a massive success.

RED LENIN

1.) 19 Apr 2021 20:35:40
Of course its avoidable and has been for decades, on offer is a worthless trinket for mountains of debt and a rigged game that is at its heart anti football cooked up by people who abuse the poor.

09 Jan 2019 22:44:11
Never doubt Ken Aguero.

Liverpool make shock loan move for James Tarkowski but Burnley want £50m deal.

RED LENIN

1.) 10 Jan 2019 05:42:11
lol 50 million seriously i hope LFC don't fall into it. he is just not a buy worth especially after gomez this season.

2.) 10 Jan 2019 06:42:05
£50m? He’s not worth fifty quid. Journeyman pro at best with one ‘good’ season in a very mediocre career. Plus he’s a United supporter so he can do one. He’s been appalling this season when he’s played so he’s returned to his actual level. If he wasn’t an English defender he wouldn’t even be considered.

3.) 10 Jan 2019 07:47:16
I actually find this hard to believe and according to the BBC it was reported in the S*n so likely to be complete BS.

4.) 10 Jan 2019 08:04:09
Macca said klopp liked tarkowski. He predicted we would sign him, obviously macca knew what he was talking about.

When are people going to stop doubting klopp's signings?

It was the same with Oxlade Chamberlain, Andy Andy andy Andy Robertson. And even mo salah.

If klopp likes him I think he would be brilliant next to VVD. he's a battler and would make a great Henchoz to our knew hypia.

50mil? Seems a lot. But Dyche knows the big boys spend big money and tarkowski is a big part of his first 11. He will need a lot of cash to replace him and maybe look for a few bargains too, to fill out his squad.

I think we should buy him. I think the reason klopp didn't go for him in the summer was because of gomez's progress. But we are struggling with injuries, especially at CB. Two games could cost us the title. Its expensive business trying to win the league.

Klopp likes him, I would value the lad at £35mil but Dyche knows the score. Burnley could do with some cash. And just think. No more Joel matip strolling around in no man's land, or coming on with 5 minutes to go and making a mistake.

Sell Joel, 100% profit as he was a free transfer.

5.) 10 Jan 2019 08:34:57
Lol. We aren't going to bid for 50m for him. That would be just silly. 50m to sit on the bench in a position we aren't short of players. Journalists just putting things together because "we're in a crisis of injuries"

6.) 10 Jan 2019 08:52:49
Dyche has been found out this season, as have his defenders. Tarkowski is slow, makes poor decisions, is terrible with the ball at his feet and he lacks intelligence, he’s a mid/ lower level championship player at best and he looks it too. He’s also a dyed in the wool United fan which tops it off for me. Are we seriously to believe that for £50m there aren’t better options available across Europe?

7.) 10 Jan 2019 09:26:04
We don't need him, Gomez is back in a few weeks.

8.) 10 Jan 2019 14:14:50
If we're signing any defender this window (unlikely) it's Lloyd Kelly from Bristol city. Can play LB and CB. Joe Gomez 2.0 basically.

9.) 10 Jan 2019 21:18:43
A few weeks? We could lose the league in a few weeks. We need a loan.

RED LENIN

1.) 03 Feb 2016 14:26:29
Also, our passing was the worst I ever saw in a while. Chris Waddle on commentary could not believe his es. That`s how bad it was. Leicester has all we are lacking as in, a team hig on confidence, no critical injuries, a striker and key players on confidence and a new coach with a pre season to implement his ideas, ALL the things we currently lack. Apart from that, it wasn`t a very poor performance, just a very frustrating one.

{Ed001's Note - Chris Waddle is a moron. If our passing is so bad, how come we dominated possession for most of the game and it was just in the final third we struggled? Waddle was just desperate to pick at anything, but even he was admitting Liverpool were the better side, while trying to claim we were constantly giving the ball away.}

2.) 03 Feb 2016 17:52:16
I thought Waddle made some good assessments. Like the ed says, he consistently highlighted Liverpools sustained possession and lack of creativity in the final third.

3.) 03 Feb 2016 23:01:45
I agreed with you Ed however even I saw the way we were wasteful in our passing which shows in fact, how poorly Leicester played because they were just as bad. I agree that we opened them up at will atimes but our decisions in the final third along with a lack of a true striker killed us.

Anonymous Woolback, you g=fail to realise that for teams like Man United and Liverpool, most f their fanbase is now abroad. Most of it has never been to the UK and will never come to the UK. Just like Gary Neville said, imagine 150m Chinese paying just £1 a week to watch Man United on stream. That's a guarenteed income of £150m a week, every week, for 8 months of the year.

Hit the nail on the head there Ed002. The fans want more and more but seem unwilling to accept that needs massively increased revenues to pay for it.

I'm 60 so have seen soe absolutely stunning midfielders play for Liverpool - Ray Kennedy, Gordon Milne, Jimmy Case, Jan Molby, Steve McMahon, Ronnie Whelan, Graeme Souness, Didi Hamann, Ian Callaghan, Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso - the list of giant is endless.

Best of all time? - in my lifetime the immortal Graeme Souness. Best in the Prem period? close but Xabi Alonso shades it over Stevie G and Didi Hamann.
