I’ve rigidly stuck to my opinion that Lavia isn’t a £50 million player. Therefore on that basis I have to be consistent and say I don’t think Caicedo is a £100 million pound player.

But he is only 21. He has 10 years at his peak if he stays fit. So if you can keep him, you have a top class consistent player who fills a position for 10 years.

If, as expected, he agitates for a move to Madrid or PSG in 3-4 years time, his value doubles.

So, I feel this is a more predictable move than Lavia who may or may not reach his potential.

I'm hearing the same things. Don't shoot me, just repeating what I've heard!

What I'm hearing is that Liverpool are ready to make the bid. They know what it's going to take and it's mostly on the up-front fee - I understand that Liverpools proposal is higher than Chelseas on that front (I have to point out, there are no sources to confirm that) . FSG are ready to sanction the move, they know it's going to be up to 100M. At this moment, it's down to the player and whether Chelsea are willing to match the fee.

I have no idea if this is going to happen, but I've been on social media for hours trying to get this info - it's exciting, for sure - but, you have to remember that this is from many sources.

Ultimately, I don't know if this will actually happen. Chelsea could well match the offer and he may just choose them. but, it does sound like this will be resolved quickly. It sounds like Brighton want it sorted.

Ron, while I agree with you on your assessment that neither Lavia and Caicedo are worth that kind of money, I don't agree that it's a lock we get continuous high performance for 10 years. I used to think we were there with Fabinho but the man's form went off a cliff after only 4-5 years. 10 years is a big ask and you don't find Fernandinhos and Casemiros every day.

But yes, if Madrid come in for him then I wouldn't mind double the money paid for him. ?.

what do people mean when they say "I'm hearing. ". genuinely intrigued on this one.

now besides that, I only really trust what the eds say here. So from what I've read, Ed2 has said that Chelsea and Brighton don't agree on price and Chelsea don't want to go higher than what they've bid already.

So if that is true, and assuming that Brighton don't compromise on a lower price, then in a general sense, why wouldn't another club be able to meet Brighton's valuation and try and strike a deal?

Would it be us? I don't buy into the "transfer kitty" idea and rather have seen that we'll pay what is necessary if we really see the value. So if we see the value and opportunity for Caicedo then I have no reason to think that we wouldn't have the funds to make the deal happen.

Here’s the thing…. say we do bid for caicedo and he chooses Chelsea…. Where does that leave us with Lavia, how does he feel suddenly being demoted to second choice? And also how smug will Ed2 really be.
