Hey friends,

Can anyone explain how players like Curtis Jones (22) and Max Aarons (23) were eligible to play in the U21 Euros?

I believe the criteria to be an U21 is that you are not yet 21 on 1st Jan of the previous season.

So Jones, who was born on 30 Jan 2001, would have (just) qualified as U21 for the 2022-23 season and the U21 Euros were at the end of the 2022-23 season. He will be classed as an overage player (for the purposes of EPL and CL squads) in the coming season so will no longer be eligible for the U21 national team.

Ah yes, got you Ed077, and qualification began in 2021, hence Max Aarons (and a few others - Smith Rowe, Gibbs White, Johnson, Gomes) are all 23 already.

I see the potential but wasn't very impressed by his performances last campaign, despite his beautiful assist to Jota.
