Dear Eds or anyone else,

Why is BR fixated with the idea that he doesn't need a defensive coach in spite of shipping out goals for three seasons now?

joshilay

{Ed001's Note - because he is confident in his abilities, maybe overconfident or arrogant even, depending on your point of view.}

1.) I'd go with arrogant. He's been like that since he walked through the door - and i'm still yet to see how that arrogance is justified. What has he done in the game to think he knows best?

2.) Or insane. Keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

{Ed001's Note - because he is confident in his abilities, maybe overconfident or arrogant even, depending on your point of view.}
=======================
Well its not that simple, he strongly believes in the system he wants to implement, the pressing game that many of you salivates over, where defence starts in the attacking third , every outfield player is a defender , and as such you can't isolate the defensive unit and coach it separately, everyone need to be involved. If you look at Barcelona with their defensive problems that have been going on for several years now , they also don't have a defensive coach, but its not such a big issue for them; the offensive system they play works because of the players they have. Similar to us last year; the back line did n't seem as bad because the forward play was much better.

{Ed001's Note - well it is that simple, because all you have done is say the same thing as me in a lot more words and try and sugar coat it. Oh and you can isolate units and coach them as units, I don't understand that suggestion by you, they still have to work as units and they will still train them as units. Do they never play 5 on 3 etc? Yes they do, because they are working as units then! Silly comment Roy, quite simply not true.

Barca's defensive problems are not relevant to this discussion, only the deluded can think there is any comparison between us and them at the moment!}

I'd go with arrogant
================
Mourinho, Van Gaal and even Fergie were all arrogant from the very start of their career, apparently its a required ingredient to be a successful manager. You just need the football intelligence to go with it .

{Ed001's Note - not sure that is true, again, like I said there, it is a viewpoint thing. Arrogance is not required though, Howard Kendall is far from an arrogant man and he had a bit of success.}

I did n't say I disagree with you, all I said there is more to it. The question was about "why he doesn't need a defensive coach" , and to me the answer to this specific question is because of the system he wants to implement will not require a defensive coach. Not sure why the 5 on 3 comes into it, they all involved,Its about defensive transition;every player to react quickly to loosing possession, nearest player closes down, doubling up blah blah blah

Barca's defensive problems are not relevant to this discussion, only the deluded can think there is any comparison between us and them at the moment!}
============================
Its relevant because this is what Brendan wants to imitate and this is where overconfident or arrogance come into it, because as you rightly said "only deluded can think there is any comparison between us and them" , unfortunately overconfidence and arrogance can make you deluded.

{Ed001's Note - 5 on 3 comes into it as players are split up into units of 5, 3 or 4 etc to practice the pressing. You don't press as a team, you press as a pack. Or at least when it is working well it is done like that. Some members of the team have to hold off the press or everyone would just end up completely out of position and easily dragged into the wrong areas.}

6.) 04 Jan 2015 14:52:44
Howard Kendall is far from an arrogant man and he had a bit of success.}
======================
And you comparing Kendall's limited success to that of Mourinho,Fergie and Van gaal , sorry mate but to use your words "Silly comment Ed"

{Ed001's Note - limited success? He had his team competing with the best team in the world and beating us on a regular basis in a much more competitive league. Hardly silly to compare them. If it wasn't for his drinking, his success would be much longer term. Sorry but you are talking about van Gaal and then trying to comment on others! That man is not a success - he has been drummed out of every club as a failure since his Ajax days. The only time he has succeeded is on better men's coat-tails, as soon as he actually had any control he failed, miserably. He is a whiny bitch, who does nothing but upset players with his sheer arrogance. It will all end in tears at United as well, despite the huge sums of money available to him.}

7.) I hope you're right ed

All leaders are arrogant - they have to have belief in themselves and to have vision. Succesful leaders though make judgement after listening to their advisors (boot room?). Truly exceptional leaders invariably have an advisor that will always give them an opposing position, so that they have to consider other options seriously (Alexander The Great for example). Brendan has self-belief and vision. He seems to lack advisors - particularly ones that will robustly oppose him and show alternatives. This means he just follows his own way whenever he can, and means he will then blame bad results on everything except his choices.

9.) This is where BR is not a leader. A good leader is always ready to listen to his lieutenants and ready to accepts other people`s views and advice. BR surrounds himself w/ people who cannot/won`t oppose him hence, he looks like a leader in his own head YET in reality, he is not because he still makes stupid mistakes that make him look stupid to the outside world.
