I won’t believe any stranger rumour until our very own guru speaks.

Last Jan was “fans will be crying when the transfer window closes and we haven’t signed anyone”. 2 days later Gakpo signs.

Then in the summer it was “people need to wake up from their heads in their porridge if they think we’re going to replace the whole starting midfield”

4 weeks later we replaced the starting midfield.

Clearly he or she’s in the know and likes to tease us.

JK23 - I’m with you on the crying part, some of our “ so called fans “ during the transfer windows are embarrassing.

Re Gapko, one of the Ed’s mentioned that Klopp had been tracking him along with Diaz. We opted for Diaz first and when Gapko became available, we swooped in Jan rather than wait until the summer. He’d had a good World Cup so would have received a lot of interest in the summer.

Exactly JK. It’s certainly not naive to think there may be a signing this month. Personally I don’t think there will be, as I do every January and end up pleasantly surprised. You just never know.

I'm surprised by your comment L5. Particularly as you are a rumours guy. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you were going for humour and hit send too early.

I think it's highly unlikely we see a signing. It would have to be a top target and I doubt they are available. We are just not in a position where we should overpay for secondary targets mid season.

But hardly naive to think it might happen. Who knows what's cooking in the background.

Still think the big difference this window is that we’re not really in a position where we have gaps that need desperate attention. Like even with Mo. if we knew he was off in the coming summer and then a target became available now then I could see it. But yeah not seeing the same need this window.

Reading my reply again, I sounded like a right b*****, not my intention, I simply mean Liverpool don't work like that, they don't keep transfers a secret and then surprise everyone, they simply work on players they like every day, they're constantly looking at the market, and if a player they like becomes available, at the right price, they will go for it, none of the players they are looking at are available in January, so I'd quite simply say I'm 99.9% sure there won't be any made this window.

I would expect us to act in January if and only if we are (a) confident about needing to replace someone in the summer, and (b) have a target player available at a reasonable price, and maybe (c) if someone is also interested in this player.

To be honest - with the quality of some of the youngsters being blooded in and the potential of the likes of Beck, Quansah and Bradley - I am almost hoping we don’t buy someone to block their progress. Only area where we don’t have good backup is right wing - but again we have Doak and the other kid whose name is missing me right now.

Just out of curiosity L5, you mention we don’t do anything in secret and none of our targets are available! apart from mac and vvd I can’t think of a single player recently that didn’t fly in under the radar, so who do you think our main transfer targets are?

All I'm saying is they have been very clear they don't intend to bring anyone in this window, and they usually don't in January with a few exceptions when timing and opportunity was right, I have no idea on finalised targets but I do know that they have been looking at options in the defensive areas of the team, a center back and midfielder are the top of the list, their main priority in attack is to offer salah another contract extension and players are being looked at in case that doesn't happen.
