Rhys Williams is recalled. Maybe to make the way for Joe to leave on loan to Villa?

Klopping

1.) 20 Jan 2022 17:03:26
Expect more likely to be for Nat to leave and Rhys to become new 5th choice.

2.) 20 Jan 2022 17:05:51
More likely Nat Phillips, lad deserves his move. Hopefully he goes to a team that see him as a starter.

3.) 20 Jan 2022 17:26:20
Swansea weren't using him. That's why he's back.

4.) 20 Jan 2022 19:49:26
I would be very surprised if Rhys Williams didn't go right back out somewhere else. He wasn't getting the minutes he needs at Swansea.

5.) 20 Jan 2022 20:35:23
Unfortunately he is not good enough for the Championship.

6.) 20 Jan 2022 20:45:28
Might need a loan in league 1 if he's to get the full games he needs. No shame in dat he's still young.

7.) 21 Jan 2022 07:09:53
Philips to Watford acc. To bBC?

8.) 21 Jan 2022 18:03:39
How we got champions league football with Rhys Williams playing centre back will forever be one of life’s great mysteries.

9.) 21 Jan 2022 18:26:08
Good luck to the lad!

10.) 21 Jan 2022 21:08:25
He is a decent player but very slow. If you read the game like Big Sami did, fine. But few do.

Eds fellow reds, quick question on the homegrown quota. With Millie, Clyne and Lallana possibly on their way out end of this season, and with the likes of Minamino coming in to add to last season's signing of Allison and Fab, are we hoping for some youth players to scale up to first team levels to manage the homegrown quota? Sorry if this question is ill placed, I don't really know where we are on HG overall but off the top of my head we have only Hendo, TAA, Ox (outside of the three mentioned above) of age 21 and over in the first team squad who are homegrown.

Klopping

1.) 13 Dec 2019 10:32:39
Gomez. Really hope Milner stays.

2.) 13 Dec 2019 10:58:17
Isn't Robertson counted as homegrown also?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

3.) 13 Dec 2019 12:11:58
Absolutely over the moon at the news of Klopp’s contract extension.
Happy days 👍🏼.

4.) 13 Dec 2019 18:12:00
There is no home grown quota just a cap on how many foreign players you can have which I think is 18.

5.) 13 Dec 2019 19:17:18
I believe the number is 17 (25 minus the 8 home grown of which 4 should be from within the club) . An 18 member squad would be a weak one if we didn’t have great kids coming through the academy. For that sake really hope the likes of Brewster kick on.

10 Jan 2019 09:17:59
Eds, sorry if this is a random name plucked out of the blue. I remember Liverpool reported to be interested in Hysaj, the Napoli full back over the last two seasons. It appears that Ancelotti doesn't rate him highly, and Chelsea might be looking to swoop in for him. Any chance of Liverpool retaining an interest, for him to come in to help Trent at RB. He can play on both flanks so could cover for Clyne on the right and Moreno on the left as well.

Klopping

{Ed002's Note - No. Unless Liverpool were to sell TAA.}

1.) 10 Jan 2019 10:44:39
Thanks Ed002! Then we are not going to buy any first choice right back.

{Ed002's Note - Not unless TAA leaves - or drops down to being second pick.}

2.) 10 Jan 2019 12:26:26
Do you think we will ultimately move trent into midfield in the long run?

{Ed002's Note - There has been no indication that there is any intention to do so.}

3.) 10 Jan 2019 13:52:56
We should get Azpilicueta in if Chelsea buy Hysaj, surely they couldn't keep both players in their squad.

4.) 10 Jan 2019 14:04:49
Thanks Ed.

Hi friends, what is the best way to get to Liverpool from London this weekend for the wolves game? I can't seem to find any trains available (been checking for several weeks now), and the coaches seem to get to Liverpool too close to the game. Any idea how other reds are travelling if trains are out?

Klopping

1.) 05 Sep 2022 19:42:43
Go up day before and stay in the town.

2.) 05 Sep 2022 20:48:10
The best way to travel would surely be by jet pack?

3.) 05 Sep 2022 20:54:41
My son stayed in Premier Inn on the Albert Dock (Royal even) last Thursday for £40. View of the dock for him, wife and 2 kids. I think he booked well in advance but I was surprised at price.

4.) 05 Sep 2022 21:44:58
£90 for night this coming Friday.

5.) 05 Sep 2022 23:05:24
Hi, a few suggestions for the best way:
1) teleport like in Star Trek/ Willy wonka
2) maybe in a formula 1 or rally car
3) space rocket like one of these millionaires is building
4) maybe get carried by a bunch of Victoria secret models ( or whatever you are into)
5) maybe you ontop of a lion.

6.) 06 Sep 2022 02:52:16
Thanks friends :) managed to book a train via Birmingham. I am ending up staying at some Marriott in the city Center which is a bit of a rip off by the looks of it: still hoping to get tickets to the match around Anfield for the three of us: if anybody doesn’t mind helping out a traveller trying to catch their team after a 5 year hiatus please let me know - happy to buy the tickets off you.

7.) 06 Sep 2022 07:25:37
Welcome to email me klopping. I can get you tickets.

8.) 06 Sep 2022 07:43:12
Booking . com has beds for this Friday night starting at £18. You just have to be prepared to sleep in what's basically a hostel for back packers!

9.) 06 Sep 2022 13:33:34
@martymcfly1 I need tickets, what’s your email please?

10.) 06 Sep 2022 16:17:52
Smoke some blunt and fly man you may never get to where you need to get but life isn't always about the destination it's more about the journey my fellow red.

Hi folks

I am in London for a couple of weeks and staying near Russel Square for a week (Central London), and then Harrow on the Hill for a week. Any suggestions of best pubs to catch Liverpool matches with scousers.

Klopping

1.) 02 Sep 2022 21:16:45
There is a London group of Reds that meet for games at the King's Arms in Fulham. The group is called LFCLondon on Facebook.

2.) 02 Sep 2022 21:23:29
Also used to be a lot of fans go to the friend at hand pub which is just round the corner from where you're staying but might want to call them to see if it's still a Liverpool fan pub.

3.) 02 Sep 2022 21:52:37
Really the Kings Arms? Used to a rowdy old pub in the nights.

4.) 03 Sep 2022 00:06:25
My uncle used to frequent the Kings arms Fulham, i got pi. ed in there when i was 16!

5.) 03 Sep 2022 08:06:28
Spread Eagle just off Oxford Street is a total Redzone. Good food too.

Just caught the Ajax - Madrid game and again felt that VAR takes things out of context making decisions which are too arbitrary on technical grounds. Didn't think there was enough in it to overturn the decision of the first goal. Also thought Ajax had an argument for a foul in the build up to Madrid's 2nd goal.

Why can't they just do it like Cricket? Teams can ask for VAR for goal related situations (up to 2 wrong attempts a game then you can't anymore) . VAR can overrule the ref only if ref is significantly wrong.

The current rules just allow for lazy refereeing. I am confident that in a season or two we will no longer be seeing any offside flags as linesmen would rather play it safe and wait for VAR to rule it out. Same with penalties.

Rant over

Klopping.

Klopping

1.) 13 Feb 2019 22:19:35
I didn’t watch that game but I’ve got to say whenever I’ve watched a game with VAR in it kind of sucks all the fun out of it, especially when you get a notification that VAR is being looked at behind the scenes, means you can’t concentrate on the game because you know it’s about to be stopped.
I had mixed feelings before it came in but for me I don’t like it, would rather we just had competent referees.

2.) 14 Feb 2019 00:03:29
I agree with both of you. I can’t stand it, it just ruins the game. We’ll be in a position where players and fans won’t celebrate until the goal is reviewed by VAR and the ref points to the centre circle.
I don’t know about you but I want to jump and scream as the ball hits the net not on the blow of a whistle or the point of an arm.

Then there’s those decisions that people just disagree on. Take Mane last season (I think it was against Stoke) when he was clearly kicked in the ankle in the box. He’s not immediately gone down so got booked for diving and some said it was a dive and others said there was contact so it’s a pen. How will VAR help there?

If you’re going to use it then it has to be for offside decisions (if they look at it in line with the last defender we should get it 100% right) and ball out of play type decisions only. Black and white decisions. Otherwise it will cause more problems for the game than it solves.

3.) 14 Feb 2019 00:52:51
If you have to have it, then use it properly. There was a flag raised for offside early in a counter attack. The Ajax player was actually in his own half when the ball was played. Isn't VAr there so that play continues, if he scores, then review the offside?

On a second note, I though Ajax were outstanding in the first half. Their pressing and intensity was brilliant. They created so many good attacks, just didn't have that striker to finish things. Madrid were totally outplayed in that half.

4.) 14 Feb 2019 05:20:22
to the original post the way it is used in cricket will just make football unbearable. teams will just gather around captain and ask him to call for VAR and in football most of the decisions are fifty-fifty so VAR can hardly judge a tackle.
VAR should be strictly restricted to offside and goal line tech. whenever a goal is scored just check for offside and whether the ball crossed the line, everything else should be human and as it used to be.

5.) 14 Feb 2019 11:19:03
Tough one this as I like the human element when it comes to decision making. VAR seems to slow the game down and it becomes almost robotic.

I do feel however that, the quality of the refereeing needs to be addressed especially in England.

I'd love to hear Ed02's take on it if you have the time?

{Ed002's Note - Largely if it could be left at it is with the referee making the decision then that would be best. Perhaps use VAR for critical goal or no goal decisions but it has to be quick. I agree the refereeing has gone downhill - and this seems to be more of an issue in England than elsewhere. That needs to be addressed regardless.}

6.) 14 Feb 2019 14:04:57
Ak, but var is there to eradicate human error. For me it needs to review everything or nothing, I know they can’t review every decision as the game would become slow, boring and just unbearable. But why have it if a human error can then lead to a completely fair goal. One instance that comes to mind, Chelsea vs Derby (I believe) in the cup, derby should of had a free kick in the corner but instead Chelsea got a throwing (which actually came of a Chelsea man) straight from the throw the balls whipped in and they score. Nothing wrong with the goal except to two wrong decisions leading up to it. Var gives the goal because they can’t review the previous errors.

7.) 14 Feb 2019 18:28:40
Completely agree Ed. Maybe if they put the money from VAR into better training the referee's we wouldn't be having this conversation?

I'm sure Benny Baller has some good insight on this debate if he's about.

Let’s be clear, we need 6 first team midfield players with maybe 1 or 2 additional players around the fringes (youth with potential) . Of these 6, we need four who can be box to box and two who can play in a more defensive role. This would be irrespective of whether TAA plays in the underlap role that he is trying since late last season.
For the four box to box or more offensive roles we have Alexis M, Szoboszlai, Harvey Elliot, Thiago / Curtis.
For the defensive role we have Thiago / Curtis and need one more starter.
The youth who can stake their claim are Baj and Morton. And then we are also seeing a good deal of Bobby in pre season though I am not sure if he will go on loan or stay.

Where I am going with this long narrative is that I still see a lot of posters talking about getting in many players because 5 midfielders left and we only bought two. But if you look at the progression of Harvey, Curtis, Baj and Morton, and the opportunities needed for further progression / maturity, I feel like we only need one. I say this also because I am hoping we can give the younger ones some more minutes in Europa League than we could have done in the champions league.

To be honest, I was one of the few saying last season that we don’t need another midfielder and we have a lot - and I know I regret that opinion now. But feel like leaning towards a more conservative direction this season as well.

It’s going to be a big overhaul. What I am most excited about (very very strangely) is just how much lower our wage bill could be with Firmino, Millie, Naby, Ox, Hendo and Thiago off it. Could fund one extra transfer just on the saved wages!

The problem is in promising first team football at that age in the premier league - the better players are likely to want that when they move to Europe.

I am guessing the Diaz deal was a summer transfer pulled forward. Given the double (hopefully treble) maybe we do better financially than we expected but I wouldn’t expect any significant purchases unless any of the old front three move on.

For a player the important thing is to have self awareness of your skill level. Not every player will break into the Bayern team, and at an age of 22 you want to be in a team where you can play and grow. E. g. would you rather do this or play an Origi-sequel role? I fully appreciate that he wants to play and believes that he will have a better chance of breaking into a team like Bayern by spending more tim3 at PSV.

I think the quality we had a few years ago we needed someone like Klopp to hold the reins. The quality we have now, you could get a new manager, a slightly different system, it is still going to be a great squad. Best goalie in the world, VVD still has a good few years, the new midfield is another level, Jota / Diaz / Nunez can create and score goals in any setup. Trent is world class (I know a lot of us hate this term but I really think he is) . Add to that the youngsters coming through, the structure and infra for youth; it is the most comfortable we could feel about Jurgen leaving throughout his tenure. I struggle to think of a better squad except Real Madrid. Even city I feel at this moment would struggle more without Pep than Liverpool would.

Of course we won’t get another Jurgen - it is not possible. But the quality he is leaving behind is a delight for any manager coming in. Hopefully this also makes this a very exciting job for Alonso or Zidane to come in.

I would expect us to act in January if and only if we are (a) confident about needing to replace someone in the summer, and (b) have a target player available at a reasonable price, and maybe (c) if someone is also interested in this player.

To be honest - with the quality of some of the youngsters being blooded in and the potential of the likes of Beck, Quansah and Bradley - I am almost hoping we don’t buy someone to block their progress. Only area where we don’t have good backup is right wing - but again we have Doak and the other kid whose name is missing me right now.

One thing I noticed about Grav is that when we have the ball, he is by far the least mobile player off the ball. That makes it harder for our Center backs and DM and LB to find an open pass. Agree with Davey on effort, but I won’t write him off yet. Let’s give him time and an off season to fully find himself in our system. Fabinho took half a season as well.
