Looks like they have thrown the book at the VAR officials and given them one weekend off for their incompetence. The ref Hooper however won't be punished quite as severely. He will be the VAR official for the Everton game this weekend.
You couldn't make it up.

Onto the naughty stool for a week. Surprise, surprise. No long term consequences or reforms, can't upset the PGMOL Old Boy's Club.

How Hooper is not even slightly implicated in what happened, I will never know.

Business, as usual then. Shocking, I know.

Does a ref lose pay if dropped? I'm guessing they don't but couldn't find it anywhere.

{Ed002's Note - Yes they don’t get their match fee.}

The uae trip will have covered any losses am sure mad that they couldn't use common sense and call the game back 20s.

{Ed002's Note - There is no issue with refs going to the UAE or the other countries they visit regularly: Saudi, Japanese, Greece etc.. they are paid to scale. You need to drop these stupid comments.}

Surely the refs must get jaded with travelling to these places in between Premier League games? Jaded people lose concentration in all walks of life. If we believe their story, it was obviously lack of concentration to not know what the onfield officials were doing. If travelling overseas is affecting their work here, it should be stopped.

{Ed002's Note - Surely there is some other feeble excuse you can scratch away at. Typically after such trips the would just be assigned to VAR. Is this much different to them takin control of European games?}

In all seriousness Ed, do you not see something suspicious about the reffing? What is your take on what happened?

{Ed002's Note - I have explained there have been mistakes.}

Gentlemen, the excuses and complaining isn't going to change anything. Do what the team is doing right now - focus on the next game.

At no point, was or am, happy with the weekend's performance but, there's no conspiracy. Sour taste? Yes! But the overreaching is unhealthy.

Everton and the Manc clubs lost at the weekend, so there is at least some sort of silver lining.

Come on ed002, we all can’t all have your privileges, flying at the front of the aircraft or the upper deck of an A380, giving maximum rest, enhanced with a couple of glasses of vintage bolly ?

Ha - just kidding ed002.

{Ed002's Note - If you fly British Airways then first class us on the lower deck for the A380.}

Ed02, it’s not a feeble excuse. It’s a valid point. Travelling is tiring; there’s jet lag too. To be fair to the VAR officials, it sounds manic in there, so they need to be wide awake. They were probably watching the Ryder Cup on their phones though.

{Ed002's Note - It is a reasonably short hop where they can sleep should they wish to. Is this the claim Liverpool will be making.}
