Ed001, if you’re around mate, what did you make of Joe Cole’s time with us? A bit random but I saw a discussion elsewhere about players who fans were excited about but turned out average.

And what of Kewell’s as well?

{Ed001's Note - Cole gave his all but he was never a particularly good player, always a headless, brainless chicken of a player. By the time he signed for us, his legs had gone and so he didn't offer anything other than lots of huffing and puffing. I never understood why anyone rated him, he was crap as a kid and got worse throughout his career as he was so thick he couldn't learn.

Kewell was so far up his own backside he had got lost long before we signed him. He was lazy, incredibly arrogant and a complete tool of a bloke. I really couldn't stand him. Shame as there was talent there, but he thought he was a cross between Maradona and Pele and so never put enough work in off the pitch.}

Agree with Ed1 you can see Joe Cole is thick as mince when he's doing punditry on TV, always comes out with absolute brainless comments and looks like he should be back in primary school learning the alphabet.

Jari Litmanen was the one that disappointed me the most! Although to be fair to him, he didn't get picked by Ged.

Karl-Heinz Reidle, Christian Ziege, Fernando Morientes and Nuri Sahin were also big name players that just didn't work out with us.

{Ed001's Note - I loved Litmanen, every moment on the pitch he looked a class apart.}

Joe Cole was absolutely useless. Overweight, headless, no energy, no positioning sense, couldn't head or tackle. Complete waste of space. As for kewell, ibid. both even worse signings than markovic and josemi combined.

Thanks mate for the reply. Honestly thought Cole would be a superstar with us, with the times I watched him while at Chelsea.

Shame about Kewell, he was also really exciting at Leeds. Him and Viduka were pretty good pair I thought.

{Ed002's Note - Cole was injured when Liverpool took him.}

Joe Cole was one of those lads in school who could do all the step overs but had no end product. He seems brainless, but surely the people who hired him were even more so!

In my opinion joe Cole was class, injury ruined his career. Harry kewell was in a different league at Leeds and I was excited when we beat United to his signature. He was a bigger flop for us than brewers droop!

I was so excited when we signed Kewell. Never really lived up to the expectations. Taught his nephew for a while. He managed to get me tickets for the CL semi-final against Chelsea in 2007.

Think the biggest let down for me was Fernando Morientes. Had such b high hopes for him.

In 2017 Kewell was talking part in a coaching clinic for the Australian FA here on the Qld coast. I took him and 6 others out on the Bay to go whale watching. He was in a great mood until I asked him why he seemed unavailable for Liverpool with niggles that Carra wouldn't have let keep him out of a game of 5 a side. The look on his face was priceless.

I don't know why exactly, but I remember been genuinely excited when we signed Baros and thought he was going to set league on fire. Morientes too. Was extremely disappointed to see litmanen get so little game time, he was class.

I once spoke to Jari Litmanen. I'd been out one night in town (The Black Horse and Rainbow as was, on Berry St) . I was walking back to Central Station and saw a film crew doing something by the top of Wood St. They were making an advert for Finnish TV and Litmanen was in it. I think I said how made up I was he was playing for us and how I wish we'd got him before Barcelona did. He said it was sad too - it was well known he was a Liverpool fan) . I thanked him for that goal against Spurs (look it up, it's a corker) and went on my way.

Doubt you would get any player these days to just have a quick natter like that.
