Hope you're all well lads, don't post often but have been reading for years and would love to get an honest review of our season so far from some of the reds and hopefully some of the Ed's?

YNWA lads

Kenny.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are doing well. Top of the league give or take, and overcoming some questionable purchases in the summer. Be tough to win the league with Manchester City as strong as they are. Need to now be looking to win something and build upon that.}

On results alone, close to perfect in the league and temperamental in Europe. Tactically, we’ve deployed the high press sparingly in return for some defensive stability, attracting criticism from some, but the league table shows the justification. Shaqiri has surprised many and Alisson has settled in brilliantly. VVD and Gomez players of the season so far for me, with honourable mentions to Milner and Gini. Underperforming you’d only say Lallana really, who unfortunately looks done for at our level. Firmino has suffered from the change in tactics. Trent maybe, but at his age and after his schedule over the last year no one is criticising. Off the pitch, Michael Edwards is apparently the Shankly of the boardroom. **** (Utd) fans are crying daily and Man City fans are looking over their shoulders, so all’s good.

Like Ed002 said, we're doing well and getting results, despite not playing with the verve of last season. That said, the defence is much better and we seemed to have learned how to shut games out. Only once this season can I remember Klopp bringing on Matip late in a game to give us all palpitations :)
We need more dynamism from the mids though, missing AOC. Shakiri has been a pleasant surprise. Not in his ability, he's always shown that, but in his work ethic and synergy with those around him.
Bobby is still key, but not firing just yet, much the same with Mane. If those 2 kick into gear like we know they can, things can only get better.

We are doing well at the minute but we still have a number of players that are taking up space in the squad and wages without contributing to our results like Lallana, Matip, Clyne, Moreno, Origi, Markovic etc. I would love to see the club move on these players and replace them with academy players and a one or two top notch signings so that we can see gradual progress in terms of squad depth and quality without paying through the roof season after season.

I do agree Bobby is suffering. Struggling this season.

Anxiously waiting for Keita and Fabinho to get up to speed. January games and position in the table will tell all. Don't understand the concern over Firmino. He's the type of player who'll do what the team needs. Once Keita and Fabinho settle (and need less support), I foresee Firmino spending more time up front and back to his previous style of play.

I think we’re doing better behind the scenes too. I listened to an interview with Peter Moore on Radio City Talk ( local radio station) last month and was really impressed.

I also think Micheal Edwards is doing a great job for the club.

Who are the questionable buys in your opinion and why ed2?

{Ed002's Note - Returning to Fabinho would be one. The money spent on Keita given his issues could have been better spent elsewhere. The promises made when tapping up and buying Solanke are no moe than embarrassing, Karius backfired on him.}

I am never in haste to judging players after a few games so I will reserve judgement on Fab and Keita cos after all, they were brilliant players in their previous clubs. Also, it is known that it takes a while for players to get up to speed in a Klopp system. Rapha Honigstien said it took Ilkay Gundogan SIX months to get up to speed with Klopp's system at BVB and we all know what type of player he became after that. We also see what happened with Shaq, Robbo and esp. OX. Karius did not work out as many of us would have hoped but he still did a decent job and kept us in games BUT we clearly needed much better. Solanke? Not going to work out either, IMO.
