"The launch of the new four-year partnership sees Verbier become the first official Alpine tourism destination of LFC in Europe. "

Maybe it's just me but the fact a football club has an official alpine tourist destination just makes me a little sad.

The large section of the fan base can't afford to even get to too many games anymore. Never mind afford an alpine holiday.

Gotta stick with the times mate we can't afford another decade like the 90's of falling years behind. If skiing keeps us there then so be it haha.

Agreed. It's not just about the times, but keeping up with the financial muscle of the others. ManU has 80 sponsorship/ partnership deals at this moment, and it's no surprise that they've been able to achieve what they have in terms of player recruitment and global popularity, in the last two decades. As long as sponsors/ partners adhere to the same values LFC stands for, and is associated with, we should continue the same course.

Who cares if people can’t afford to go and watch the games? Liverpool FC is an international company with international customers. Just because a few thousand out of the worldwide millions don’t now get to games shouldn’t impinge on which sponsorship partners they have. What about random African in Conakry who can’t afford to go to the games? What about me in Oxfordshire who can’t afford to go to games? We really do have to stop feeling sorry for those fans who ‘only’ get to see their team play several times a year, let alone the thousands of poor season ticket holders who are fortunate enough to be able to see the team week in week out.

It is what it is. Put up or go and support a smaller local team.

{Ed002's Note - Any deals with organisations that are socially questionable (e.g. Bet Victor), socially bankrupt or have caused the club embarrassment (e.g. Dunkin’ Donuts), nonsense (Nivea and the club’s official coconut water supplier TCC), are from a country with controversial human rights (flag carrier Malaysian Airlines – who replaced just as bad Indonesia’s Garuda) should be cancelled or run down as soon as possible. Being on morally better ground will make a club with Liverpool’s profile to get better profile sponsors. However, Liverpool are one of the clubs that care not one hoot about the principles of right and wrong, human rights and the scruples of some of their sponsors.}

With a ski partner on board I’m sure we’ll get a downhill run to the title this year boys! 👍.

Completely fair enough Ed. I agree that the standard of the companies that sponsor Liverpool should of course be more important than the size of their wallets, but the fact that they judged based on what they sell or which sector they are from shouldn’t really come into question, unless it is a question of morality. If only one percent of Liverpool fans can afford their product then fine, as long as they want to give the club some cash and sell responsible ski holidays, i’m happy. (Of course free ski holidays for all Liverpool fans would be better, but hey)

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with what Liverpool fans do or don't buy from the sponsors, it is about the morals of associating the club with some of the businesses for what are relatively small financial returns in exchange for use of the club name, photo opportunity rights with players, tickets to games - including many from the Liverpool allocation to the Champions League final.}

Fair enough, I hadn’t thought of it like that. Still, sponsorship of this type is part and parcel of the modern game. I would much rather LFC distanced themselves from the morally bankrupt types, but just as some of the most greedy, nefarious and ill reputed people control the things we need in life, the same sort of people will try and get their fingers into the things we love. We could all live in a yurt in the Yukon and cut ourselves off from everything corruptable, I suppose.

{Ed002's Note - A lot of clubs do distance themselves from sponsors who are inappropriate. I am surprised Liverpool don't, but I am surprised who little they think of the local residents as well. I think the club is better than that and it is something they should be able to deal with easily.}

Not to mention Standard Chartered as our official sponsor Ed002. We shouldn't be associated to morally questionable companies. There are a lot of others who could represent the club in good stand.

I won’t start worrying too much until we get owners that come from a country with a controversial human rights record. Oh wait.
