In my opinion when a team like man city spend £240m or whatever it was then they should be wining the league. Man utd spend £150-160m and should be challenging for the title . All these teams have bottomless pits in terms of money. We do not so challenging for 4th on our budget is decent. Put it this way if bill gates brought LFC then we would be champions in a few years guaranteed.

The maths is simple
The 3 highest spending clubs (and arguably wealthiest) occupy the first 3 positions in the PL table.

Highest quad values:

City - £774m
United - £711m
Chelsea - £584m
Liverpool - £396m

Based on that, we should be finishing fourth. By the end of today, that could very well be the top four in that exact order. It is no coincidence. Mourinho has no excuse though. They have spent just as much as City considering the wages they pay eclipse everyone by a long long way. Plus they hold the 3 record Premier League transfers of Di Maria, Lukaku and Pogba.

If we finish fourth, Klopp has achieved what is expected. Anything higher would be over achieving. That's just the way football is nowadays with how much money is in the game. If we finish behind Spurs, Arsenal, or god forbid it, Burnley! Then Klopp will have underachieved because he has spent a fortune on the likes of Mane, Salah, Chamberlain and Wijnaldum.

But then there's Leicester and Burnley.

MK

Beyond 4th be "overachieving"? So you don't think owners are expecting to be competing for the title then? Interesting.

I thought Spurs be the club that are content with CL finishes considering their comparatively modest spend on players. A Spurs that's consistently outperformed LFC past couple of years in spite LFC's vastier spends.

When do we get to the point where people are honest and admit LFC have spent vast enough sums since FSG arrival to compete for and possibly win the PL?
money's been there and proper wasted.
FSG been a disaster too with their appointments.

Constantly pointing to City's "billions" not going to change the fact that LFC has screwed up transfer wise more than once. Money's been spent, just not as wisely as should of been as often as required.

Yes Ron, and they over achieved. Leicester over 1 season, and Burnley over half a season so far. Maybe we might over achieve one or two years and win the league. But you can't expect to win the title when you are being outspent by almost 100% by Manchester City. They have literally spent just under double what we have on their current squad.

If FSG want to win the title nearly every season, they need to do what City's owners have done and plough money into every area on and off the pitch. It is common sense that if you're the 4th highest investors, you'll also have the 4th best business, unless you invest very cleverly which would then be categorised as over achieving!

Bayern, Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Man City, Chelsea, Man United etc. The teams which dominate, spend the most to do so. There is nothing complicated about that.

I'd rather win the title once in a similar way to how Leicester did than win it 5 times by just blowing everyone else out the water financially. It will mean so much more to do it and have nobody be able to say "yeah but you spent £1billion". To win it and have everyone just sit back and say we really deserved it against all the odds.

Gerrard says his one major trophy with Liverpool was worth more to him than winning more elsewhere (which basically means at a club who buy success if you read between the lines) . I believe him, because i feel the same.

gerrard will say whatever he has to say the fact remains we haven't won Prem for 27-28 years. so let's not bring what a explayer says the fact is we are way behind the likes of city, united, chelsea and even arsenal in terms of quality on the pitch and revenue generated off the pitch. there are lot of people to be blamed for this but let's not divert the focus from winning the prem to giving silly excuses about why we did not win.
Everytime i read post here feel more and more Liverpool fans have resigned that we will win the prem and comes up with excuses to cover the teams and mangers mishap.

And what about Leicester budget when they won it?

MK, if Klopp had gotten a CB, let’s say VVD which the money was there to buy and replaced Migs in nets do you think we would be in our current position or much closer to City? I think we would be second and much closer, replacing Migs with Ward or Karius costs us nothing but Klopp perseveres, not personally messing up the VVD transfer or having a second or even third option is just blatant incompetence. We may not win the league but those two changes I feel would have us in a much better position than we are currently.

As for the argument that he couldn’t get the CB he wanted then should he have gotten in a DM and changed tactics slightly to protect a very poor defense?
