I do not understand why some think we will still sign VVD.

First of all, LFC made it publicaly clear that they dropped interest in VVD.

Secondly, if we now approach Southampton for VVD then the FA will have all the reasons to move in and sweep clean as Liverpool made it clear they dropped interest. Put 1 + 1 together people.

Thirdly, Southampton made it clear VVD is not for sale.

4th, if Southampton did decide to go into negotiations with us re VVD then they will make us pay through our behinds.

It will be utterly daft for Liverpool to knock on Southampton's door now as that is how it should have been done in the first place instead of tapping him up.

City and Chelsea have walked away from VVD because of this whole debacle. If he was going to cost £50m or whatever Southampton valued him at, you can rest assure that Liverpool will have to pay way more than the £50m if they decided to enter in negotiations in the correct manner.

There is absolutely no sense in signing VVD now. Enjoy selecting him in your fantasy football team for next season :-)

Or we could leave it as the last signing then let the fa do what they please, I do see your point but if VVD wants the move he will make it hell for whoever comes in as the manager to force his own way you seen what Suarez did for his move to Barcelona he's not the only one either to throw the toys out the pushchair to get his own way either.

You do realise that Liverpool offered an apology to appease Southampton. VVD is most definitely available this Summer. We will sign VVD, Klopp wants him, Southampton need the cash and do not want to have a player causing drama especially with a new manager coming in. No doubt in my mind that it will get completed.

I think you are a bit too trusting about what you read.

Sakho is Boss, Southampton do not need the cash. They are actually a very well run club.

Liverpool especially have made them very financially stable over the years.

{Ed001's Note - Saints are in the middle of takeover talks, cash is not really much use to them right now.}

Exactly Ed001, there is no need for Southampton to sell their prized asset at this point, which they have made clear.

But max, regardless of how we have got here, the player wants a moved and has expressed a public interest in joining Liverpool.

1) Why would the club want a want-away player on their books?

2) Who else will he join?

I still think he will join us, for a large fee and later in the window.

Of course I wish we had done things right as that would've cost us less money, not damaged our reputation further with the FA, Saints and other teams, and (most importantly) have got the player to us sooner and therefore settling in earlier.

However, we are where we are, and I still think VVD will be a Liverpool player by August 31st.

Ed001. The club would look pretty foolish going back in for him fir all the reasons above and the club statement. Would you agree?

We need to move on. De Vrij looks decent imo.

{Ed001's Note - it could also be argued that leaving him stranded there after he made it plain he wanted the move would leave us looking foolish.}

As Ed001 has mentioned, Soton are in the process of take over talks. Do their current owners or future owners care?

2) Who else will he join?
Refer to my reply on your first question.

City most likely made a healthy offer for Bertrand. Bertand is still at Soton. 1+1=?

Max, want away player has got sfa to do with money, and everything to do with player attitude. Very few players, when they've expressed a preference to move to another club, can be relied upon to play every game with their heart in it. Suarez was the exception. So why would a team want a player who doesn't want to be there? What is the point.

On the point about what other team, the player has said he wants to play for Liverpool. And in case you have forgotten, the player needs to agree to a transfer too. He's not merely goods and chattel owned by a club who decides where to sell him.

So clearly, 1+1 = 7 in your world!

Max there are times when 1+1 makes 3, come August VVD will not be a Southampton player, I am sure of this, you just see one side of the coin, there is a bigger picture .

If VVD hands in a transfers request or states he wants to leave then it's best for both party's that we come to a deal that's suits saints and us. I'm not saying we should be held to randsom but it's our fault that this situation has come about so we should sort it and move on.
