It's not often I have the time nor the inclination to check out the thoughts of our rivals. but having read some prompts and given the extreme nature of uniteds performance, I nipped over for a gander! Here's what I found.

With very few exceptions, most are happy with the performance and style of play:
As for the style. what happened to the fabled Man utd way? Banter aside, I think most of us reds will accept they have some very good players and a top manager. So for such a talented bunch to take on the mentality of a small team shocked me. It's rubbish that fergie played that way. he may have played conservatively to get a result. but he never parked the bus.
The likes of Burnley have to play that way against the ridiculous budgets of us etc. But united have just spent 150m in one window!
I hear that we are the form team in the league. we are not. If you come up against a West Bromwich team who are the form team will you play that way?
We do take confidence that you think we'd have smashed you if you went toe to toe with us. But really, you were playing Liverpool not Barcelona! At least try to win the game!
I completely agree that it was a good point. I think it was for us too. No arguments there.
The biggest point being that united fans seem to be take great hope from their defensive performance.
Expecting it to be built on one Jose has had time like Klopp.
Well parking the bus is the tactic that requires less skill than any other. Being creative is the greatest. To get from one to the other requires risks. requires your wingers to vacate their full back position. my point is. you cannot build on that performance because it was so extreme. Any development of a more creative style will involve that rigid formation to be weakened by the movement of those in a defensive position into an attacking one. thus resulting in a weaker defensive unit. Almost supporting your view. your not good enough to get a result playing that way!
The only thing that proves is that u are capable of parking the bus if néeded. yippee! Whilst u may have been the 1st team to stop LFC scoring. U were also the 1st not to score.
Whilst u might point to Klopp having more time. I'll point out that Jose has had a pre season and a transfer window of 150m added to one of the most expensively assembled squads in history. Surely you would expect more than admitting that your only way to avoid defeat against Liverpool is to park the bus a la Big Sam?
I fully expect united to be competitive this year. with whom i'm not sure! But stop making excuses. parking the bus for a club of your stature is embarrassing!

{Ed041's Note - if u had done it a few years ago you would be talking about a title now

To be honest I try not to comment on Man Utd and their fans because I actually respect their club. Yes, I don't want them to win anything, but they are a great club with a great domestic and European history.
They are rebuilding, I understand why they're pleased with the result, I genuinely thought we'd win last night due to many reasons.
Rather than comment how far Man Utd has fallen, I prefer to look at they way they played as a compliment to LFC and Klopp. It shows we are on the right track and we are ahead of them in terms of development at the moment.

I've got no respect for Jose, he's got no respect for football fans, opponents, referees, authorities, medical staff, ambulance services the list is endless.

Sorry ed, not sure what exactly you're referring to, but we have many titles to talk about!
But clearly my post was about this performance. Wouldn't want to be accused of living in the past or deflecting attention away by mentioning past successes!

{Ed041's Note - i meant if you had gone a bit more conservative against Chelsea a few years back you would of had a PL title now imo.

Ron, Jose is not my cup of tea and I agree with much of your assessment, but he has been a top manager. The question for me is deciding if his methods are past their best or not. Personally, I think he's just not a good fit for that lot. I agree with your sentiments about them too. so maybe they deserve better than Jose.

{Ed041's Note - joking aside he is a top guy, one of the best.

To be fair, I heard many lfc fans say the same but I wasn't one of them! We got into that position playing a certain style. who is to say we would have got a better result parking the bus?!
But I take your point and would accept that parking the bus to get a specific result ie Europe 2nd leg etc would be more palatable. But you may be missing mine, United are neither a small team nor playing for a specific result.

Agreed Ron, I have little respect for Jose. Yes, he's won lots, but I can't stand his attitude and playing style. I see he's also blaming us for the boring game Monday. Can you imagine how dull Anfield would be now if we'd have brought in Jose instead of Klopp?

Jose is not the only manager that has won lots and been successful everywhere he's been. Carlo Ancelotti is more successful than he is, won leagues in three different countries and now definitely a fourth with Bayern and has more CL trophies than Mou YET he is a very nice and dignified gentleman who is IMO, more respected as a decent, honorable man than for his coaching ability at least, I do. He is the one who cleaned up Jose's mess at Real Madrid and got them his third and their tenth CL title, something Jose failed to do. He's a top manager but a very toxic one whose tactics are becoming more outdated and stale and players don't wanna play that way anymore. Go ask Sergio Ramos and Eden Hazard if you don't believe me.

Jose Mourino is a professional manager who has won champs league and domestic titles wherever he has been.

His philosophy is that each team starts a game with one point each at 0-0.
He defends that point for all their woth and hope to grab a winner or 2 on the counter attack.
We on the otherhand see that its 3 points for a win so let's go win it. It works a lot of the time but sometimes we draw or get beat. But we always have a go.
Jose tactics are negative and he has to defend them to a hostile media.
This has turned him into a bitter twisted negative nasty piece of work who will wind up referees before games etc.

But it was a tactical masterclass all be it a negative one.

I don't buy into the 'we should have taken a conservative approach' for that Chelsea game. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. We were flying, had won 14 (I think) on the bounce and Chelsea, on paper at least would be fielding a weakened team, and it was an Anfield. A slip cost us the title, that's the truth.

BR would have been slaughtered had we adopted a defensive approach, plus in fairness, it probably wouldn't have been executed correctly and we may have lost anyway. He couldn't organise a team defensively and rather stumbled on the 3-5-2 the season later. I have my doubts on whether he could have transitioned that swashbuckling 14-game winning streak team into a defensive sound unit for 1 game, especially against a very good side.

I agree, JH. I said at the time that we were right to go for the win. But we did not lose the PL due to that game. We lost it by not being able to keep clean sheets and due to BR`s incompetence and arrogance in not fixing the defence through out that season as a whole, that cost us the PL. the fact that he tried to run up the score vs CP at home (a stupid tactic which underlines his incompetence) shows how clueless he was. He should have just won the game, we are three point up on City and see what happens because at least, you have the three points BUT he didn`t do that hence, CP had space as we tried to score more goals, to punish us.
