Evening Eds, is there any update on emre can's contract situation? He seems to be turning into a top class player game after game and going into his final year of his current contract it won't be long he can start negotiating with other clubs, with reported interest from juve it would be sad to see him go on a free.

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware there is nothing to tell as he is away with the U21s.}

He is at the confederations Cup in Russia with Germany.

{Ed001's Note - sorry that is what I meant, it was a moment of madness as I had just been reading about the U21s and was still waking up.}

Could can or liverpool be waiting to see who arrives at club this summer before committing? Not that I agree with this just . Could it be the case? I really like can, think he'll be world class in yrs to come, hope he stays as if not I think we'll look back one day with regret.

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea.}

Just a question ed's, if these reported rumours are true about naby keita agreeing terms which as a Liverpool fan myself I don't believe they are because of the amount of crap I read and nothing ever happens, what is the difference in this report to the way we delt with the VVD deal? Cause from what I have read we have not approached RBL atall yet so surely this is quite simular.

Another thing that is quite annoying is how can Chelsea sign players such as the German centre half they have just signed before it's even been published on the papers! It's absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing as a fan and for us to see the manner they deal with it its just continues and continues for months then 9/ 10 never happens.

{Ed001's Note - I am struggling to find any differences myself.}

Am I right in thinking that if Jurgen Klopp decides he would like to sign a certain player. the first point of contact would be that players agent, in order to ascertain if the player would actually be open to a move.
If the player is keen on a move, is it ok for his agent to talk contracts and money with Liverpool without the knowledge of the players current club.

{Ed002's Note - No, that is not allowed. You are wasting your time if you are scratching around looking to try and justify the actions lof Liverpool and Klopp.}

Not trying to justify anything. Just trying to understand how these transfer deals work.

{Ed002's Note - The process should be along the lines of: Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. There may be some broad discussion on the sort of deal that would be offered but no more than that. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the player's club to ask if they would be willing to sell and if they would grant permission to speak to a player's agent formally about a transfer and possibly even the player about actually making a move. This will typically involve either broadly (through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. Many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subset of those go ahead.

Agents will often try and get more specific details of wages and other financials before they should - but most clubs are happy to follow this process. Players will often talk to other players about moves but, whilst wrong, is tolerated as it would be impossible to manage.}
