Hi all! Question for you Ed02.
The other day a poster had asked whether the team's pursuit of Willian was directly linked to Suarez's future. You replied that it wasn't.
This suggested to me then that Willian was looked at as an addition; the wide forward BR's always wanted, and not replacement.

Willian, as we all know, is now out of the picture. Name that's now doing the rounds is Arda Turan.
You yourself, ed, have said that it could happen that we push for Arda at 24m euros. As was Willian, this move would be independent of what happens with Suarez.

Now it's strongly emerging that Madrid are poised to move for Suarez. Logically, we would have to replace him. Now I remember you mentioning that you'd learned that Liverpool would move for Leandro Damiao should Suarez move.
Do you still believe this to be the case? How much would Internacional be looking for? Would we afford it? Would the player be interested? Basically, is it at all a viable deal?

Is there a good chance that Suarez leaves and Arda and Damiao are brought in? If not these two, who could be our options?

{Ed002's Note - The transfers not being linked does not mean Suarez would be staying. Liverpool are looking for a centre back and that is also unrelated to the future of Suarez. The key thing is to look at it from the perspective of having a squad, not just a like-for-like replacement. It is hardly emerging that Real Madrid would make a bid, you have known this for months. I don't see any chance that Arda and Damiao would both arrive. There are complexities with Damiao and it should be pointed out that Liverpool has yet to show any interest whilst two other clubs have held discussions over a deal, and Spurs might also return with an offer for him.

There are several possible scenarios I could speculate over, one of which would see Liverpool making an offer for Arda Turan (but if they look to negotiate they could lose out). Another might be to do as was suggested by a representative of Suarez and look to Damiao or indeed someone else. Another might be that two players (perhaps one on loan) arrive from Real Madrid as part of a deal for Suarez that covers Liverpool's remaining transfer needs and there would be no need for any further business.

Or there is the Rodgers approach that 10 days is not enough time for any more business to be done. We'll see.}

Ed002, do you still expect that a deal for Mkhitaryan will be brokered? Also, how serious is Dortmund's interest in the player? Do you see either of LFC or BVB being willing to meet SD's £25m asking price?

Lastly, you've said that we are 5m euros apart with Sporting as regards Ilori. What in your view would be the likely common ground in this deal? {Ed002's Note - (a) Dortmund has made an offer with a number of caveats, so they are serious. Liverpool know what they need to do financially. It could certainly still happen. (b) I don't want to get in to the money but if Liverpool want the player they will need to offer more than they have. I am comfortable a deal can be made.}

Hi ed02.

We've seen reports about LFC 'readying a £20m bid' for Shaktar man Mkhirtayan. What do you make of these reports? Is this simply another typical case of the media making up stories or could there actual be substance to it?

£20m is a lot of money, so assuming the interest is real, would the funding for the deal hinge upon proceeds from Suarez' sale?

Lastly, ed, how plausible, in your view, is the scenario of Benteke replacing Suarez, Aspas the wide forward sought, Mkhirtayan the 'number 10', and Toure, Ilori and Papadopolous being the centre back recruitments?

You've said that you expect about six new arrivals. Are the above just about in the right ball park?
Thanks in advance. {Ed002's Note - (1) Shakhtar's Mkhitaryan has been of interest to Lazio and Juventus, but the player is looking for a move to Spain with Barcelona (which looks like it won't happen) or somewhere in England. He has previously stated an interest in a move to London although there seems little or no interest from there. He says he is due very high wages - perhaps why he sees England as an attractive move. Shakhtar made it clear a few months ago that they are looking for about €25M - which seems high to me but in line with the figures being discussed now. I would say the interest from Liverpool is genuine. (2) I would doubt that the funding is dependent on Suarez moving first, but if Suarez stays a significant purchase such as Mkhitaryan would mean there is considerably less to spend elsewhere. (3) An enquiry has been made by Liverpool in respect of Benteke - so there is interest and it is certainly plausible. (4) Aspas will almost certainly go through I think. (5) Ilori might well happen - but I still rather doubt Papadopolous, certainly at the price Chelsea, Dortmund and Manchester City walked away from.}

Hi Ed002.
I know you don't like talking money, but when you say Papadopolous would be very expensive, are we talking a figure in excess of 20m euros? In your view, can Liverpool afford him?

Personally, I don't see this one happening. Also, ed, since De Vrij (staying at Feyenoord) and Alderwerld (moving to Roma) are no longer options, what other centre back options may be considered?

Lastly, how much substance is in the Begovic-LFC links. Can you see a deal being done?
Thanks. {Ed002's Note - The asking price is more than €20M as you say. Begovic was looked at, deemed too expensive but with his move to Manchester likely off, is a perhaps.}

Hi all. Question or two for you ed002.

1. How far do you Liverpool is from Champions League qualification?

2. What 2 or 3 players, realistic and viable, would you recommend this summer that would take us to the next level and get us those extra 25 points needed to guarantee CL football next season?

3. Considering we won't be able to attract a replacement equally as good, is it then a case of Liverpool "must" hold onto Suarez rather than "preferring to do so? Can you honestly say that you can see the club selling him and still improving/kicking on next season?

4. How much of a hit is our stock taking due to our CL absence?

5. Man United and Chelsea have very strong, young teams as it is, and are going to significantly improve. Owing to their financial clout, City will certainly always be up there as well.
As you have said ed002, the Arsenal are set to see enormous changes in the next season or two. The arrival of some high-end acquisitions will take them right back into the elite.
That will be the top four locked and sealed: a monopoly established again.

Likes of Liverpool, Everton and Spurs will find it hard, if not impossible, to compete. Even with new and/or revamped stadiums, things would be unlikely to change much as the top 4 sides will themselves be constantly regenerating their teams and enhancing their commercial gains.

So my question then ed, should the above indeed materialize, would you see us moving on high earners and operating the same wage structure as that of Spurs? As it is, we are haemorrhaging sizeable amounts of money and still spending like CL club even though we are not. The owners at some point are likely to cease propping the club as they are doing now.

Put simply, I don't us winning the league again, for decades at the very least. The same goes for Everton and Spurs. We'll produce great young talent and buy relative unknowns with great potential, and then ship them off as soon as the "elite" sides come knocking, as Spurs have been doing over the years.

At some or other stage they have had Carrick, Modric and Berbatov. Those players added to Lloris, Vertonghen, Caulker, Sandro, Bale, Dembele, Holtby would have a class, Prem challenging team.
But since they could not compete for the top honours, couldn't hold onto the Modric, Berbatov and Carrick.

For the same reason, they are set to Bale, this or or next summer, as we are to lose Suarez.
The cycle will go on and on.

6. Is it true ed that Sergi Canos is close to joining Liverpool?

A long post, I know, but I'd appreciate your views.
Thanks. {Ed002's Note - (1) The defence needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. If they do this over the summer then I would expect Liverpool to be in the hunt for European places. Until there is a clearer indication of what will happen over the summer it is impossible to say if a top four finish is viable. (2) If Liverpool could afford De Vrij I think he would be a good option - but he would need some persuading. The likes of Inan would help considerably, but I fear the chances may have gone there. Dzsudzsak was enquired about for a January loan - he would give that natural width but I suspect Ince might become the focus of attention again. (3) I expected him to stay but the statements to the press and recent incident might well be indicators that time has come. There are offers that will be made by at least three clubs. Players are transient and will always need replacing at one time or another. Hughes, Fowler, Owen, Hyppia etc.. (4) Not being in the Champions League likely costs the club £35M or so a year with lost prize money, revenue and sponsorship. (5) Whilst we are working within the existing structure I would not expect any club, particularly Liverpool, resigning themselves to not being able to achieve Champions League football. However, as I have explained before, an eventual restructing in to a pan European model and the impact on the extant leagues will give the most significant change in in the game, perhaps since it started. (6) A lot would still need to be arranged before he could move to Liverpool because of his age.}

Just watching repeats of preseason matches. MY MY MY! Jordon Ibe. Frightening potential. What immense talent he is. Looks as though he's been playing at this level for years.

Lad knows no fear whatsoever. I'd defo have him start on Saturday and against the Mancs. He would not be overawed one iota.
The good thing's that BR would have the balls to unleash the lad.

The prospect of him and Sterling in their early twenties is mouthwatering.
And what actually pleases me the most is that these two are actually intelligent footballers with a varied skills set, not headless chickens who are all speed and no substance like Lennon and Walcot (with respect).

Credit to Rodolfo and his fellas. The technical output of the Liverpool cadet has considerably risen.

Dire, just absolutely dire and awful to watch.
No real direction and purpose in this "pass, pass, pass". all of which is happening in unimportant areas with no real danger posed to Celtic.

Attitude also is a problem. We think and play like we are better than we really are; thinking that we can just waltz into the pitch, pass ourselves to nowhere and woila! job's done.

Alarming to think that this is the closest to our starting XI verses Stoke next week.

I think Spurs have done brilliantly well this window. There's a real sense of real progression there that, sadly, is missing here. If they can keep Bale, I can see them making a real push for second.
LFC's future may well be promising, but to be, we are still far off.

The one thing that baffles me is, why are Spurs, who, like us, aren't in the CL, but are still able to complete important deals, whilst we barely manage to?
Vertonghen, Paulinho, Capoue and Soldado are very good players who'd improve our team no end. Yet, for whatever reason, we've not even had interest.

I've no idea what players will be arriving next, but we'd better get those deals right, no mistakes. Spurs had a better team than us even before adding Paulinho, Capoue and Soldado. They are even better now and will no doubt be strengthening still. Arsenal will complete some important deals as well.

We HAVE, I repeat, we HAVE to get it right this window. Bugger up and we'll be set back years.
I've liked what I've seen from the new additions, however, it's nowhere near enough. The first XI still falls significantly short of the quality to match and outcompete Spurs and Arsenal.
We MUST get this one right.

I see we little ingrate has been at it AGAIN.
Now he's blabbering to the very same media he's moaned about for being "against" him.

I'm just waiting for Waro, Ozone and the like to tell us how it is "not Luis' fault, just the hateful, agenda-driven media twisting his words" and how this is all "FSG' fault", "pushing Luis out".

Are you ever going to ever wake up and see Suarez for the disgraceful, lying, selfish, hypocritical person that he IS?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Suarez (or any player for that matter) wanting to leave a club.
That's not the issue here.

The gripe is the disgraceful and prickly manner he's gone about stating his intentions/wishes.
Cavani and Bale are presently subject to very serious interest from some of Europe's elite clubs.
But do you see them whoring themselves around these clubs and openly flirting with them as Luis "I'm the victim" Suarez has been doing?

NO! You say he was "just answering questions put to him". Suarez DID NOT have to run his mouth the way he did. There was no gun to his head.

And what about the "Manchester incident" as well, huh? Not his fault again he made up complete, utter tosh of lies, even using his family, the one in whose interest he claims to be basing his decision to leave?
But hey, it's not Luis' fault; blame the evil, vicious English which has always had it in for him.

Pathetic, just pathetic.
Suarez, for all his talent and effort, is a disgraceful person with not the faintest notion of respect and etiquette.
The sooner he is off the better. And I'm not bothered one bit where he goes.
Whoever stumps out can have him, Madrid, Chelsea or City.
