To say I am furious is an understatement. Jones, I can begrudgingly accept even if I think those sort of decisions are ruining the game, Jota was stupid so fine. But the goal is just corruption, nothing more to it. If I was a spurs fan right now I wouldn't be happy with that win. They had the Ref, VAR on their side playing against 9 men and they still couldn't manage it themselves. I'm really really proud of the players tonight. I give Matip a lot of stick and would have liked to have seen him gone in the summer for an upgrade but nothing against him for the OG tonight. The team battled like champs and were the better team even with 9 men. We carry on battling like that and we'love challenger this year no doubt even with this standard of officiating.

On Jones there's a case a case that it's reckless for him to go in with his foot up at that speed. There's a debate to be had about the decision. The problem I have is the ref didn't see it as serious foul play, but VAR said "no that's a clear and obvious error, check it again. "

But it's not a clear and obvious error for my money. So we're back to what's the purpose of VAR? Fix clear and obvious errors, or fix every decision around goals or red cards?

There is nothing wrong with VAR, it is the inept people they have operating it that’s the problem. I’m getting to the point now where refereeing decisions are so bad, I’m not that fussed about watching football anymore. It is spoiling the English game.

When the ref walks up and sees a frozen image of what looks like a leg breaker, he's being influenced by how the VAR operator sees it. He should go over there for an objective and not a subjective review. I honestly thought he was going to stick with his onfield decision.

Lots of folks calling it a "leg breaker. " Well I would offer that his foot was planted and his leg didn't break, hence the tackle was not a "leg breaker. "

The operator was fully able to freeze the image and present his case that this tackle was worthy of a red card and that's his opinion. But, he was unable to draw lines on the still of Diaz as he was in the motions of running onto Mo's pass. Did he not stop and think that this game is being watched all over the globe and that fans would be fully expecting lines to be drawn? The decision was taken in about 20 seconds not to award the goal. Surely he could have told the ref "hey I'm having some tech issues here I'll need a minute. " Keeping the speed of the game going I get but not at the expense of a decision that has very likely decided the outcome of a match. One nil to us and down to 10 men is a massive difference to the same situation but with the scoreline reversed.

I was also saying to my son at 0-0 that if the boot were on the other foot, that I'd give a sigh of relief rather than celebrate wildly if we'd scored. How embarrassing for Spurts to carry on in such a manner after they've offered close to nothing against 10 then 9 men. They have no bench and are for me are no better than they were last season. They've had some blind luck so far this season and surely that can't continue. Rant off.

I definitely would like to see VAR gone now. Occasional mistakes by a largely competent refereeing pool was annoying, but all BAR has done is made officiating weaker. Everyone could see the Diaz goal was a mile onside without the lines so that they didn’t even do it is just mind blowing. Same video ref as the “don’t have the right camera angle” nonsense for the Saka goal last year.
I smell a rat and fair play to Neville for starting to make those noises. I bet he’s not allowed to just come out and say it.

Makes you wonder how much Saudi money was in the brown envelope, that was sitting in the refs room after City lost eh?

Either way, that’s what we are up against. Jones never a red, Jota was stupid and careless but would never be a red in another game and they never even put the lines up to justify Diaz was offside - when he clearly was on IMO.

It was basically 9 men V 11 plus a corrupt ref and a VAR panel and it took a 96th minute own goal to get there own way - so that says more about us than anything those corrupt clowns can throw at us.

I think this will be a blessing in disguise over the course of the rest of the season, cos it will only make us stronger, believe more and be more together knowing this is what we are up against each week, regardless of what other think.

Westwood666 it’s not a largely cometwnt whatsoever, VAR at least highlights that. What we need is VAR team should be 1 referee 1 statistician who can say ‘95% of the time that’s a yellow so no it’s not a red, and 1 ex player. Got games ran by fellas who’ve never kicked a Damn ball.

Sailor I am saying the standard of refereeing before VAR was largely competent with occasional mistakes and now with VAR the standard has dropped massively . I think it should be dropped entirely or like Tennis a team captain can request a check a limited amount of times a game if they believe a mistake has been made. The refs are reliant on the technology which showed with the offside call yesterday. Linesman puts his flag up probably thinking “doesn’t matter if he’s just off, VAR will fix it. ” Then VAR doesn’t because apparently they thought the goal was given, which means they weren’t paying attention if that even true which I doubt.
There needs to be a system to Sue to demand replays of game or reallocation of points for things like this because the officiating incompetence is just staggering. Like Klopp said, VAR was supposed to make it better, but it’s just made it much much worse.
